The Ying Tong song was a family favourite, still makes me think of my lovely late Mum.

Mner Mner from the Muppets was my younger brother’s party piece.

And I bet not many of you will remember this, my husband sings (or sneakily plays through the speakers when he thinks I need torturing) Basil De Farmer from the Basil Brush show. I had completely forgotten it until he played it a year or so ago. The catchy line was, “he was a brave, brave man” roared by a multitude of children... ?

My Lancashire granny used to sing Has Anybody Here Seen Kelly? Kelly From The Isle of Man.

And this ditty:

phoenix - that's another one. My sister and I used to sing it when trying to persuade our parents to buy us a dog. Which they did in the end.
It's also good for singing in 2 part harmony.

I Iove the Flanders and Swann song about the sewer men--I think it's called "Down Below", also the one about the weather---it starts "January brings the snow, Makes your feet and fingers glow", goes through all the months of awful weather, then ends "Bloody January again!"

When I was very young I loved She wears Red Feathers and a hula hula skirt, and Pretty Little Black Eyed Susie, I think Guy Mitchell was the singer. I also remember Starry Eyed by Michael Holliday, I think, and What did Delaware and Catch a Falling Star by Perry Como. Who sang James, James, hold the ladder steady? We didn't have a TV until I was about 8 or 9, so I grew up listening to the wireless, BBC Light Programme and Radio Luxembourg. Great thread, great memories, thank you!

I liked ‘Seven little girls’ too Lilly. I remember singing it with my cousins and sister on Christmas Day. We thought it was hilarious because our uncle was called Fred. We were all dressed in pink, floaty, nylon party dresses, as was the fashion then. I was six years old.

The funniest one wasn’t quite a song, but a poem with music in the background. It was ‘The lion and Albert’ by Stanley Holloway.

Seven little girls sitting in the back seat (all of them in love with Fred). Always felt so sorry for the driver!
