My favourite (today) is “O Holy Night”. What are yours and I will ask Alexa to play them?

Christmas is such a good time for music. As we covered Christmas songs in a previous post recently my favourite Christmas hymn is "Once in Royal David's City" but there was a tear in my eye this afternoon listening to the 4/5 yr olds at DGS 's school carol service singing "Away in a Manger".

Another for "In the Bleak Midwinter" I love it. Thank you Christina Rossetti smile

Another vote for `'It came upon the midnight clear```'. Has always been my favourite. Thanks for saying it first, Calendargirl

Witzend absolutely Three Kings from Persian Lands Afar!
Also, O come o come Emmanuel and Lo he comes with clouds descending.

Grannyboots1 Mon 16-Dec-19 18:51:34

Once in Royal David’s City, sung by Kings College choir on Christmas Eve.

B9exchange Mon 16-Dec-19 18:40:51

All the above, also 'Christians Awake, Salute the Happy Morn and from school nativities, 'Little Donkey and Road to Bethlehem.

Witzend Mon 16-Dec-19 18:38:08

I love all the carols already mentioned.
Another favourite is The Three Kings (from Persian Lands Afar)

One I first heard years ago, when it was sung at dds'' school, is the Calypso Carol. So lovely and catchy and happy. There's a really nice version on YouTube, by a big mixed choir with lots of children singing.

Thanks chelseababy I will also look it up on catch up. Your choice is my favourite carol.

My contemporary choice is Michael Buble & Kelly Rowland singing ‘Feliz Navidad’. Check it out on YouTube!

Calendargirl Mon 16-Dec-19 15:54:21

It Came Upon the Midnight Clear.

Feelingmyage55 Mon 16-Dec-19 15:52:39

chelseababy Will look on catchup.

DanniRae Mon 16-Dec-19 15:39:12

Definitely "In the Bleak Midwinter" - we went to a Carol Service last night and, happily, it was one of the carols that we sang.

chelseababy Mon 16-Dec-19 15:35:47

In the bleak midwinter.
Did you watch Lucy Worsley's recent bbc4 programme about carols?

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas
(Johnny Mathis)

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Everywhere you go
Take a look in the five and ten glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Toys in every store
But the prettiest sight to see, is the holly that will be
On your own front door
A pair of hop-along boots and a pistol that shoots
Is the wish of Barney and Ben
Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk
Is the hope of Janice and Jen
And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Everywhere you go
There's a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well
The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Soon the bells will start
And the thing that will make them ring, is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Soon the bells will start
And the thing that will make them ring, is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, Christmas, Christmas, Christmas, Christmas!

Carol of the Bells sung by Libera.

Teetime Mon 16-Dec-19 14:25:55

Hard to choose one so I will go for The Shepherds Farewell- so beautiful and ethereal.

timetogo2016 Mon 16-Dec-19 14:02:27

Same as Libral0.
It always brings a tear to my eyes.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Mon 16-Dec-19 13:59:50

For a hymn I love Silent Night and for a more modern song it's I Believe in Father Christmas by Greg Lake - both quite mellow sounds.

Greyduster Mon 16-Dec-19 13:59:21

Currently it is The Shepherds Carol by Bob Chilcott. It is sublime. I also like Harold Darke’s arrangement of In the Bleak Midwinter.

libra10 Mon 16-Dec-19 13:59:14

Silent Night! A beautiful song.

GagaJo Mon 16-Dec-19 13:58:51

The Holly and the Ivy. Love it. Reminds me of medieval England.
