I will start by apologising as don’t want to upset anyone, it’s really a lighthearted post, but I have to smile when I hear certain surnames, in the town where I grew up we had some funny ones namely lol excuse the pun, Gotobed. Bearcock . Bowcock. Babcock, Higginbottom .the funniest was two males one was Ivor Wright and the other Ivor Whitehead honest to god it’s true,

I once taught a girl called Tess Tickles.

When I told my dad about Tammy Screws back in the 70s, I remember him telling me of a co-worker named Joe Shitly! Why is it that I can't remember 90% of current details and yet those are clear as a bell?!

There was a family near us with the surname Weedy, and the male PE teacher at school many moons ago was Tom Argument
But changing the subject slightly a local village to us is called Ramshaw and for reasons i don't know that always reduces me to laughter when we drive through

Theresa Green

BlueBelle Mon 16-Dec-19 10:24:33

Did you go to school with sodapop basically or are there a lot of Teresa Greens around ?
Not surnames but we had a Gail and Raine at school

Twopence Mon 16-Dec-19 10:23:52

Someone I came across years ago was a Mrs Hiscock who had two sons, Mark and Luke. There was also an undertaker where we lived before called Mr Boddy.

Funny Names ... I was born a Hooker! When I divorced I didn’t go back to my maiden name as I was a college lecturer and my students would’ve had a good laugh being taught by a hooker!

basicallygrace12 Mon 16-Dec-19 10:19:24

i went to school with Teresa Green, what her parents were thinking, or probably not, when naming her!

Ramblingrose22 Mon 16-Dec-19 10:19:10

My sisters' headmaster was called Ansell Savage so all his letters to parents were signed "A Savage" with "Headmaster" on the line below.

There's an estate agents near here called Doolittle & Dalley. Presumably there's a Mr/s Doolittle and a Mr/s Dalley somewhere in the story.

I once paid a Dr Doctor and an A. Nurse - I worked for the Health Authority and their jobs fit their names!
I went to school with a Will Drown - when he left school, he had a boating business - I kid you not!

Not exactly amusing but a man drove into the back of my car. His name was Ronald McDonald. No he didn't have a red nose and big feet.

GranEd Mon 16-Dec-19 10:11:08

Our local undertaker was Mr Stiff.

MissAdventure Mon 16-Dec-19 09:37:31

Just a silly one.

A teacher called Mrs Crump made me giggle.

JoyBloggs Mon 16-Dec-19 09:36:37

I remember our butcher when I was a child... Mr Bull.

When I was expecting two of my babies my consultant was Mr Fairbairn. He didn't disappoint!

Willynilly Mon 16-Dec-19 09:20:48

A local GP....Dr Badrashi.

shysal Mon 16-Dec-19 09:11:53

My butcher was called Mr Carver and my friend's dentist Mr Savage. DDs went to school with a Teresa Green and a Tallulah Plum, which I love!
When I worked at the hospital I came across some great names and, as the surname would usually be printed first, I enjoyed Rolls, Royce and the most memorable, Fanfart, Fanny.

Auntieflo Mon 16-Dec-19 09:11:17

My lovely physio's first name is Meekness

Luckygirl Mon 16-Dec-19 09:05:25

There is a local family called Bytheway. Not particularly amusing but unusual.

There was a girl in my school called Gillian Uren - sadly her skin was rather yellow.

Oopsminty Mon 16-Dec-19 09:03:37

Don't want to offend

But there was a man called Christmas Cock in the late 1800's

Urmstongran Mon 16-Dec-19 09:01:51

Before she married my dad, mum ‘walked out’ with a Mr. Box in Blackpool. His father was the local undertaker.

TrendyNannie6 Mon 16-Dec-19 08:56:05

Omg ScotinOz I almost choked on my cuppa, Mr UFUK that’s made my Monday, fancy being stuck with that one, lol I will be smiling all day now, love it

EllanVannin Mon 16-Dec-19 08:42:27

----Can't see for laughing !

My dad as a boy, had a maid in the family home called Mrs Shufflebottom and with 3 boys in the house there was much mischief over her name.

When dad died, mum went to register his death and spoke to a Mr Clutterbuck, to which she'd stifled a laugh at what was a sad time, but once out of the office out came the hankie and she roared laughing.

I've noticed lots of surnames along the way which have been befitting to their jobs/businesses/companies.

Lins1066 Mon 16-Dec-19 08:25:03

I remember two pupils I taught one called Owen More, the other was Heavenly Best.
There was a boy in my infants class called Maldwyn Mackie, it always amused me, no idea why, wonder where he is now.

ScotinOz Mon 16-Dec-19 08:11:53

When I worked, we had to go out to the waiting room and call the clients by name. (I live in Sydney). Some of the 'foreign' names were very hard for my Scottish tongue to pronounce. However, the worst name was Mr UFUK....especially as I started laughing ??

Also, our financial advisors name is Lillycrap!
