Right, kitcheners, get busy. You know the routine. The tin of flapjacks to keep you going is in the corner with a kettle. The water's already on.

Feelingmyage I had to smile at your saying the family do not realise you are not 40 any more. Mine are exactly the same. They keep telling me how tough I am and how well I am coping. It is good in a way though as it encourages me to be tough!

I really enjoyed your journey home with you Izabella. I felt as though I were there seeing what you saw. Welcome back and look forward to reading more of your lovely, descriptive posts.

Morning all,

Woke up to a bright sky and that just starts my day off so much better.

A successful day at Slimming for me yesterday so we are off out to celebrate with cake today - makes perfect sense to me :-)

Sorry to hear about your hospital trip Dragonfly , home is best for recovery , hopefully the antibiotics will help your hand . Have a restful day.

We all suffer from that feelingmyage , our children don't see us aging either and they have no idea how long it takes for us to recover from a visit. I guess I wouldn't have it any other way though.

Glad to hear you are being useful Maw ;-) , enjoy your visit with Flynn. I hope your daughter enjoys Minnesota, its one of my favourite US cities ( and it has Mall of America lol ) .

Poor Soop you have been through the wars. I do think there comes a time when enough is enough. I hope you're still resting when you can and feel a bit better soon.

Another reason for the cake celebration is that we have seen the outline of the local plan ( the government targets for building ). I'm not sure if anyone remembers but shortly after we moved here it was proposed to build 95 houses on our view !! It seems my rallying the troops has worked and the council has seen reason and now they have selected another potential site.

Cause for great celebration here . It may just be a field to some but to us it is as precious as a lottery win .

I am sure I have missed out some peoples news but will be back after cake to read on- Happy Day all !!

Congratulations N&G fields are very precious where we live too.
We have a proposed cemetery near us and some of the residents have complained but I see it as an advantage as it will remain an open space and will not be built on. I love cemeteries!

Maw you have an exciting (tiring) time ahead of you. What a wonderful job your DD has and visiting two of my favourite cities, Minneapolis and Amsterdam!

annodomini Wed 29-Jan-20 10:14:04

Izabella, thank you for your lovely account of the dawn that greeted you on your return. I felt as if I was reading a wonderful poem and you made me see it as if I'd been there. A fitting end to a beautiful holiday.
GG, I echo your impression of The Range. I 'discovered' it on a rare visit to Stockport, when I happened to park opposite it. A store the size of a football pitch and very hard on the feet. I don't think I ever reached the far end. One good thing came from it - my magnificent - and very cheap - Amaryllis which recently had eight blooms on two stems. However, I don't think a repeat visit is likely.
Soop, the catalogue of your innards' problems makes me shudder and feel all the more respect for you and how you manage to carry on so when lesser souls would fold into invalidism - have I invented that word? No red line, so it must exist! And you are so wonderfully caring for each and every one of us.
Oh Dragonfly, what an ordeal. What you need is TLC and, when you feel like it - cake, of course.
N&G - community action works! Well done. I hope the view survives the depredations of planners for many more years.
Maw, enjoy your time with Flynn and others. You will be exhausted by the time you get home again! But I envy you having the chance to have time with the wee ones before they become teenagers!
When I ask Alexa the time first thing in the morning, 'she' has taken to wishing me 'a good Wednesday' or whatever. Very disconcerting. Especially when I think it's still 7.30 and I find it's 9am. sad

soop Wed 29-Jan-20 16:50:55

Oh dragonfly No wonder you are feeling dispirited. Bless you. If I could hug you gently, I most certainly would. I do hope that you are feeling a wee bit brighter today.

Izabella A fabulous post. I also felt that I was on the journey with you. You are a very gifted lady.

Maw and other RUGs I am doffing my hat to you. You all deserve a special treat.

soop Wed 29-Jan-20 17:06:21

That is what I call a result N&G. Fields are precious places. At least no one can build opposite us...the sea won't permit it. wink

We had an uneventful journey to Oban hospital As we neared Oban, the verges still showed signs of yesterday's snowfall. MacS's bloods are as stable as can be hoped for. He had a thorough "going over" by a trainee young lady doctor. He didn't object. In fact, he wore a silly smile throughout.
The journey home was through torrential rain and huge puddles that spanned the road and enveloped the car from time to time. The pot holes will have done the suspension no favours. I travelled in an incontinence nappy. I am not at all confident after the embarrassing incidents recently. It isn't what I would call chic but it is of great comfort to know that I'm well protected. There is no shame in it.
Returned home to watch Rafa being beaten after a spirited match. Feeling a little sad because he is my favourite.
Tomorrow, I am to do the ironing for my pal. I shall take the occasional break, I promise. Should I feel unwell, I shall return home. Please believe me, I really do want to get back to some sort of normality but I do listen to my body.

soop Wed 29-Jan-20 17:08:12

I'm pleased to have been able to pop into our kitchen.

TOYA Back again tomorrow. smile moon

dragonfly46 Wed 29-Jan-20 17:13:38

Lovely to hear from you soop and pleased Macs bloods are stable.
I know what you mean about normality, I feel just the same.
I hope the ironing goes well tomorrow.

callgirl1 Wed 29-Jan-20 17:34:08

Please do take good care of yourself Soop, make sure you pack up if the ironing is getting too much. GBood to hear that MacS`s hospital visit went OK, I was worrying all morning, thinking of that picturesque, but winter treacherous road to Oban.
I`m in awe, Izabella, of your oh so descriptive powers, you made the dawn sound so beautiful.
I`ve just taken delivery of my Tesco order, so must now depart to put it all away, the bit I hate...…………….after paying for it!

MawB Wed 29-Jan-20 20:06:33

Mustn’t grumble but I am zorsted
I have exceeded my 10,000 daily steps target by an extra 5.000 and my left hip is telling me every step of the way.
I have toiled upstairs and down to DGS who has actually crashed out now (I hope) but I could not take another step if you paid me.
Feast or famine - why do we have to wait until we are old to be grandparents?

cornergran Thu 30-Jan-20 11:20:01

Blimey maw, I'd be more than zorsted. grin. Good luck with today.

Feelingmyage55 Thu 30-Jan-20 11:31:39

I have just been on the Good Morning Thursday thread and it is so sad but also so warm with love and some gently and tenderly expressed messages. It brings me to say how much I am worried about panache and wish we knew rather than didn’t know. panache if you read but cannot post - you are being thought of.

Izabella Thu 30-Jan-20 12:07:02

Yesw indeed, I wonder about Panache too. We may never know.

I have tried in vain to do a catch up so have abandoned that and have decided to try and keep up to date from now on. A brief foray into the posts reminds me that so many struggle with both health and life problems. At least the kitchen is here to offload. I will have a look at the thread you mention Feelingmyage

In the meantime I send positive wishes to all and shall return on the morrow.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 30-Jan-20 12:56:41

I think the Good Morning thread today is very poignant and has shown the caring and supportive side of GN.

I had some troubling news at the opticians yesterday, apparently I have AMD, the dry sort. I know so many others on here have so much more to cope with but it really came as quiet a shock. I shall not use "Dr.Google" but if any of you beautiful kitcheners have experience of this I would be very grateful.

annsixty Thu 30-Jan-20 14:02:08

Grannygravy I have AMD but mine is the wet one.
A very regular Kitchener has the dry one and I am sure she will be along with help and advice before long, I am sorry for your diagnosis.

annodomini Thu 30-Jan-20 14:14:44

I have a nice piece of news about my 17-year-old GD. She is to receive an award at their town's Civic Service. The award is given to 'those who embody the spirit and ethos of community; exceptional achievement and selfless dedication..... In recognition of outstanding contribution to the community.'
I think she was nominated by her Scout leader. She is a junior leader and has worked with the Cubs for 4 years.

annsixty Thu 30-Jan-20 14:21:49

Well done to her anno you must all be very proud of her.

aggie Thu 30-Jan-20 14:23:43

anno , that is so lovely xxx

kittylester Thu 30-Jan-20 15:43:18

How lovely, anno. Bet you're proud as punch.
.
GrannyGravy, that is troubling news. Did the optician give you any advice? Have you looked on the nhs website?

I haven't been in the kitchen much lately and think that is a good plan Izabella. Are you still on a high from your trip?

soop you and MacS are superstars but please dont overdo it!

I'm zorsted too, maw and I have only been to Sainsbury's and the hairdressers!!

TOYA and especially the bravery of oldgaijin.

dragonfly46 Thu 30-Jan-20 15:46:50

GG sorry to hear your diagnosis. I am sure there is a lot they can do.

Wonderful news anno you must be proud.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 30-Jan-20 15:49:34

Congratulations to your DGD anno

soop Thu 30-Jan-20 16:25:10

Wonderful news, anno. What a special moment for the family. flowers

GG I am also sorry to hear your diagnosis. Gransnet will be of help to you. Sharing information can be such a blessing.

Maw Zorsted! I should think so. I am in awe of your supersonic energy. Well done.

Back from ironing. I do feel better for having made the effort. Have decided to spend the afternoon with a good book.

TOYA Especially those who are going through a difficult time. I do miss Panache and I still hope that she will return when the time is right.

smile moon

NanaandGrampy Thu 30-Jan-20 17:19:52
