Right, kitcheners, get busy. You know the routine. The tin of flapjacks to keep you going is in the corner with a kettle. The water's already on.

Just typed a long message only to click the wrong key and it’s disappeared ?
soop hope MacSporran is ok. It’s always a shock having a fall. Glad you can give him some tlc. I am sure the new hairdo is very becoming soop. Take care both.
ann glad your DD and GC were included in the family gathering at the funeral. You sound as though you’ve had a busy day dog sitting.
izabella glad you had a good trip. Get home safely.
synonymous that must have been good news for your husband. So pleased for you both to be making progress.
maw hope you feel better soon.
N&G I always find worry affects my appetite. Hope the problems sort themselves out soon. We always worry about our family don’t we.
TOYA ?

annodomini Sat 25-Jan-20 22:45:16

ann, I'm so glad that your family were well assimilated at the funeral. I hope they - and the dog - have reached home safely and you are able to draw breath, pour a G&T and put your feet up.
Syn, it's wonderful that your DH will be back in the driving seat and eventually able to potter around the garden when adaptations are complete.
Those ripped jeans are certainly one of the silliest fashions ever. At Christmas I got a good photo of all my GC together for once, and both GDs were wearing them! The GSs looked quite normal.
I am so sorry to hear that MacS has had a fall. I'll give him the same advice as my sons hammered into me when I had several falls last year: watch where you put your feet.

Nannytopsy Sun 26-Jan-20 01:13:00

Evening all! I hope all who were unwell today are feeling better and that Soop & McSporran are both fast asleep.
We have a landscaper coming to do some work next week and today he delivered 6 railway sleepers. We expected at least 12 so now I can’t sleep for worrying about just what he is planning to do. Of course, in the cold light of day I know that on Monday morning we will pin him down as to his exact plans but I am not rational at 1 am! Tomorrow I won’t be able to sleep in case we oversleep and he starts before we have the discussion! I think I need a tap on the head from the leg of lamb - where is it now?
I hope you are all fast asleep and I am just talking to myself ?

soop Sun 26-Jan-20 17:52:38

You are right! I have spent the best part of today lolling in my chair. As has MacSporran. Neither of us has a lota energy. So...I've been following your wise instructions. Please may my batteries be recharged before too long. I do not like the me that is lolling. What's more, not a scrap of housework has been attended to. What a messy mare! hmm

I hope very much to be back in the morning with a spring in my step.

I am, as always, TOYA. You are very special people. smile moon

Synonymous Sun 26-Jan-20 18:12:19

soop ref housework my gran used to say "It'll still be there when you are not" so just shut your eyes! It matters not a jot so just enjoy each other's company as that is all that currently matters.

I had to take Himself to A&E this afternoon as he had a TIA but it wasn't a long wait and he is fine now but will have to go to the stroke clinic for a follow up appointment. So grateful it was something and yet nothing but it does give us yet another thread on the collection of clinic visits, saves getting bored I suppose. hmm I keep saying "whoops, one step forward and two back"!

Synonymous Sun 26-Jan-20 18:20:48

Nannytopsy I just noticed what a time that was to be posting! You must try not to worry that he could only get 6 railway sleepers under his arm, he probably decided it was safer to make two trips! At least it is an outdoor job so you can shut the door and let him get on with it - just make sure you borrow some classy newspapers from Hyacinth Bucket when he has his tea! grin

Bellanonna Sun 26-Jan-20 18:50:15

Synonymous I’m glad all is fine now. You were so matter of fact in your post, but must have been really worried. All the best to you both x

annsixty Sun 26-Jan-20 19:07:11

Synonymous a TIA is not to be taken too lightly, 90% of the time it never happens again but you have had so much trauma in the last few years perhaps you are so used to things happening you just take things in your stride.
You cope marvellously, I take my hat off to you.
A miserable day here weatherwise, my GD has done jobs for me, she starts a new job tomorrow. I pray it goes well, she is such a dear.
Just finished a lovely roast lamb dinner and relaxing with a glass of red before bed.
Have a good evening all and better health to all not well.
I now fear we have heard the last of our friends the Panache's what a sad end to a virtual friendship.

Synonymous Sun 26-Jan-20 21:26:29

I probably sound matter of fact because I just cannot handle the situation if I over think it all. I know we are all living on a knife edge as we get older and I don't know how I would manage without Himself but undoubtedly I would because I would have to. (As so many on GN already know better than I do. sad) The Dr in A&E was very thorough and we are not unfamiliar with the procedures since this is the third TIA over the last 20 years. After the fall/head butting of the sink in the bathroom at the beginning of November it was mooted that this might be a possibility in the next two or three months as he is on warfarin but I thought we had got away with it and I would like to think he won't have another but who knows? "Sufficient unto the day ...." is very appropriate I feel. Head down and keep moving onwards.
The funniest thing was on the way home and Himself was saying,"I have just been told that I could drive again and now this happens" and I just came straight back with, "well, I wouldn't worry anyway as you haven't got a left foot accelerator and it will probably be six months before you do" He just said, You are so practical" and so I say to my kitchen pals and dear Bellanonna, "I was concerned but I just can't do drama!"

ann I am so pleased to read your happier posts nowadays after all your dreadful traumas. You are very blessed with your lovely GD, roast lamb is so good and red wine is very good for you too. smile

cornergran Sun 26-Jan-20 21:40:56

Keep on resting soop, the dust will keep. You both deserve some restful, quiet together time.

Oh blimey synonymous, neither of you needed that. Delighted your husband could return home, hope you both avoid A&E for a good long while.

Busy day here, good one so no complaints.

TOYA, take care everyone.

MawB Sun 26-Jan-20 22:08:41

Glad all is now well after your DH’s TIA synonymous.
I remember posting, possibly on here when Paw had his first. He was making no sense and I thought it was dementia. He went off for an early night and I think Galen messaged me me and said Get him to a doctor!
I hope a lazy day has been restful and restorative Soop - you needed it.
Good luck with all plans for tomorrow and a safe journey home to Izabella

callgirl1 Sun 26-Jan-20 23:59:31

Synonymous, glad to hear that your husband is OK now, it must have been scary.

Soop, I hope you`re feeling more like you tomorrow, and please give my best wishes to MacSporran as well.

Izabella, I hope you have a pleasant journey home, after what sounds like a wonderful trip.

I didn`t get on here yesterday, I was preparing for a family meal out, to mark David`s birthday. It was a wonderful meal at the Castle Inn at Freiston, everyone enjoyed it, no moans for a change! We also shared a few reminiscences. So Soop, next time you pass Muasdale and say hello to David, please tell him we were all thinking of him.

Dawn coloured my hair the other day, and I received a few compliments last night. I was pleased, because I wondered if I really ought to be having my hair coloured at my age, lol!

MawB Mon 27-Jan-20 00:05:25

I meant to post this earlier.
I hope it is not too small and indistinct , I fear it is but that’s me second from the left with mah pinny on!

Synonymous Mon 27-Jan-20 12:48:42

Maw I remember when Himself had the first TIA and had vision problems and dizziness we got him upstairs to bed by him holding on to my shoulders. We were just not thinking but it never occurred to either of us that it might be serious as we always have just tied a knot and carried on. I am more circumspect nowadays but have difficulties getting Himself to be so. Fortunately we were in church when it happened and one of the members, who is a heart specialist, insisted he went to A&E asap. Still got under the breath grumbles but there we are, I would like to keep him as long as I can; am thinking I should write my reasons down for future reference! grin
None of this was anticipated as he had his annual check-up last week and all the results of blood tests came back as spot on to the point when the practice nurse laughed and said that he was just like Mary Poppins - 'practically perfect in every way' - false confidence eh! hmm

ps I loved 'the Broons' when I was small.

soop Mon 27-Jan-20 13:13:09

Good afternoon to our lovely lot. You are real treasures - and precious with it.

Synonymous Bless you and Mr Syn. I have only just read about his latest "incident". I echo all the wise comments that have already been voiced in our kitchen. You will continue to be in our collective thoughts. Sending whatever good vibes can reach you from a blustery Kintyre.

callgirl1 It's a given that we both greet David whenever we pass. x

annsixty Your special granddaughter is a VIP in this 'ere kitchen. Please may she enjoy her new job and derive well deserved satisfaction from it.

I'm about to watch some tennis. I shall return before too long. smile

soop Mon 27-Jan-20 14:03:20

No tennis until 3:15. However, I did a small heap of ironing, and that has made me smiley.

Synonymous Mon 27-Jan-20 14:34:28

soop since when did a heap become 'small'? And ironing is suddenly on the agenda again? We love you and want you to heal and recover so please be good! x

GrannyGravy13 Mon 27-Jan-20 14:56:27

More poorly kitcheners and their families , I wish you all a speedy recovery. We must never take our health for granted in our latter years.

I have just finished ironing a pile of bedding and contemplating what to do with two chicken breasts for dinner.

TOYA

Galen Mon 27-Jan-20 16:01:40

I have decided that Burns’ night isa moveable feast, so I shall have my haggis and nears on Wednesday.
Has anyone the recipe for that wonderful sweet with raspberries oats and cream? I think it’s called something like Cranach.
*soop behave!
Stop doing idiotic stuff like ironing. It has never cured a prolapse in my 50+ years of practice.

Galen Mon 27-Jan-20 16:02:07

Nears?
Neaps

Galen Mon 27-Jan-20 16:03:48

GG13
Try doing them in passata with sliced mushrooms onions and a little red wine!

Callistemon Mon 27-Jan-20 16:06:07

Apparently they are neeps not neaps Galen!

I was told on another thread when I called them neaps grin
I just called them mashed swede.
Enjoy your supper whatever it's called.

Ironing?
soop stop dashing away with a smoothing iron and sit down with a brew

Charleygirl5 Mon 27-Jan-20 16:21:51

soop I do not want to hear the following words used in association with your house until maybe next week. Iron, hoover, duster. I am aware you are unfamiliar with a four letter word "rest" but if you do not look up its meaning and act I will be organising a busload of GNs to come to your house to sort the pair of you out.

Admittedly I will have a problem because so many still have the lurgy, including myself and I do not want to spread our bugs so behave!
TOYA

halfgran Mon 27-Jan-20 16:29:50

Galen it's cranachan but sorry don't have a recipe.

annodomini Mon 27-Jan-20 16:36:40

I think cranachan contains whisky as well as raspberries, cream and oatmeal but I don't know the relative proportions.
