Which country would you choose to live if you couldn’t live where you are?

It was not my choice to come to New Zealand but having landed here I fell in love with the place.

However, I have had to address this question as both my sons went back to the UK to work and talked about settling there again.

So it would be back to Cornwall for me and before anyone tells me Cornwall is not a country, there are some hard-core Kernow people who insist it is - and not a part of England. I respect their views.

I don't deny they exist but in my 45 years here I haven't met many like that and I've worked mostly with refugees, immigrants and Maori, so would certainly have encountered it in those areas if it were rife.

Certainly the overall feeling in the country is not one of racism, the recent nation-wide outrage at the mosque bombings was a case in point, with people speaking out against it in huge numbers; taking to the streets in their thousand and raising millions in suppport.

Nor has misogyny and/or sexism been an issue and as it is something I feel strongly about, I'd be trumpeting against it, were it commoin here.

The Netherlands - we spent about 18 months in total over 3 trips on working holidays there in our 20s. Let's just say the ethos of that country on certain issues was a perfect fit for us. Having said that, there is no place like home - which is the UK and, more specifically, England (south and north, we have lived in both).

Afghanistan, Syria or Georgia. Love them all.

For myself it would have to be Italy, then the French countryside - to develop a château of course, and shop in the local food markets. Bliss...

it really depends where, Italy is very very varied in 100s of ways, climate too.

Anywhere in Italy or south of France.

Septimia. Have to break it to you; Orkney isn't a country. I know if you travel from the south by the time you get there you think you have travelled half way round the world.

France I love everything about it: language people lifestyle, my choice for holidays every time!

Norway, Canada or Ireland.
Norway is such a fabulous country. So clean and the air so fresh with beautiful countryside and fjords to investigate and explore.

Bali for me. It’s so relaxed and the people are wonderful. I could be tempted by Madeira, too, with its abundant gardens.

I don’t know. I have only been to Paris on a school trip. I used to go to relatives in Northern Ireland as a very young girl. I loved it there.

I used to think I would be happy anywhere as long as my loved ones were nearby.
I still feel somewhat like that but have been in Scotland so long I can't imagine living anywhere else now.

I have a DB in Denmark and that's great and a DS and DGC in NZ and love it there. I go to France most years and this year was in Ireland - loved it.

All the places I have been on holiday from the Scottish Islands (and they are all different) to Australia are all great.

South Africa has an almost perfect climate --but politically!
My Sudanese friend swears his country is far more beautiful than Scotland.

Australia (Pottsville NSW) son and family live there..its beautiful..would take all my other DC &DGC with me...

Granny23, I would have to be dragged out of Scotland too, but if I was, then it would be Turkey for me. I seem to be the only one who has mentioned it so far, but I absolutely love the country - the genuine warmth and friendliness of its people, the sheer variety and beauty of the country itself, and the food, which is so under-rated.

New Zealand, North Island for me. Or if travel were to be restricted in any way (health/money/time) any of the Islands off the coast of Gt Britain - preferably Northwards i.e.Western Isles, Orkney, Shetland.

My hubby and I spent our honeymoon there. Think of The Lake District, but with far fewer towns and villages and almost no people on the roads! North Island is full of lakes and mountains, fresh air and blue skies. The people are friendly and the scenery is stunning!

New England it’s so beautiful, or maybe Spain for the heat not sure

Provence, France where my husband and I spent so many happy years. Too old to go anywhere now.

Wales! Then I would still be near England.?
After that, Canada and NZ.

I live in London and love it but in the winter I am in the Caribbean staying with my son until March. The older we get the more fraught such trips become. You must make sure you have meds that you cannot get in some countries, long haul flying is not fun! You cannot get some foods we regard as common and the cost of living is high.

If I had to choose other countries to live in they would be Australia where I had many happy years. France because there are so many beautiful areas, Holland because the people are welcoming and the Dutch speak English. I do like Canada and USA but I would be reluctant to live in either of them. If Scotland becomes independent I think I could enjoy living there and I find Scots people very friendly.!

The US is not full of guns as it seems to be portrayed by the media.
I have been in the US for almost 20 years and I have yet to see one or be involved in an event where a gun was used.
