Why do people keep stating that the NHS is FREE

We have paid into the fund. It is FREE at point of need but we do pay for it.......

`sorry to interrupt the flow but it was really bugging me.

I love this country for being so beautiful.
For being able to mostly have freedom of speech.
For being able to dress as we want to.
For having a sense of humour,
For the coastline. I love the sea.
But it doesn't feel as good as it used to........sorry

Oh dear, it seems the usual culprits are determined to put a fly in the ointment, and simply can't resist trying to spoil a "feelgood" thread for the rest of us. A bit like their politics really.

Anyway, I suggest we just ignore their posts. I've thought of another one - Fish 'n' Chips!!!

There are enough of the pessimistic doom and gloom threads on here without trying to derail, a this one.

My thanks too, Opal. I do get tired of all the negative threads on here. This is still a wonderful country to live in.
I give thanks every day that I was born here.
I'm near Dartmoor and the air is clean and pure, the moors are beautiful no matter what the season.
There are a million unknown acts of kindness every day,
I have been on the receiving end of some of them.
As for politics, I like to think that we can make up our own minds without being constantly harangued by some.

I lost my husband a year ago and the care he received from the NHS was of the very best. I live in a village which has wrapped it's arms around me this year, we all look out for each other, helping where we can, . The kindness of people I'v met on buses and trains who help me on and off and chat away really make every trip.
I love getting up in the morning and reading all the Grannetters posts.
I love England for so many reasons, too numerous to mention. Life is good in England.

We are very lucky to live in England’s green and pleasant land where most of us have a comfortable life, the less fortunate have good support in most cases but that does not mean it’s perfect

While I agree that there are worse places and we would be kidding ourselves to say “everything is awesome” I woukd challenge that most have a comfortable life and that the less fortunate have good support.
The gap between the very rich and the others seems to be widening daily, I have no recollection of people living rough and sleeping on the streets in my childhood, support agencies are stretched to beyond their limits and mental health issues are on the increase.
Yes, there are infinitely worse places to be, but we could also learn from those where the quality of life is infinitely better. .

Indeed there are, crystaltippsand I was not being smug nor superior in posting that I feel we are lucky in this country to be able to drive a car, vote, turn on a tap for water, etc. You know as well as I that there are places in this world of ours where this is not the case. Therefore, I feel lucky that I am fortunate to live in a country (amongst many), where these things are possible.

It's easy to feel everything is pretty good at this time of the year. I do. I'm even looking forward to the General Election.

There are 1500000 people destitute in the UK.

Which means that families have to live on £140 per week.

This has happened since 2012.

How can I as a member of that family answer the question posed in the OP?

Why post that on an optimistic thread, whitewafe? There are more than enough pessimistic threads where you could post it.

I notice most posters have listed everything that is good about this country and the generosity of the people in giving their money, their services and even their lives for the good of others.
I found your earlier post concentrated just on yourself - I and me and not on the goodness of others.

No I haven’t missed the point - there are good and bad things about most places so “everything” is not right with “anywhere” surely? There are lots of countries where you have the right to vote and drive have electricity and tap water and walk about where you like it’s not just the U.K. - so why the smug superiority?

We are very lucky to live in England’s green and pleasant land where most of us have a comfortable life, the less fortunate have good support in most cases but that does not mean it’s perfect.
There will always be more to do, a great deal of poverty is caused by relationship breakdown and mental illness, how we tackle that I have no idea.
