Don't know about you but I'm getting so fed up with all of the doom mongers and nay sayers on here, I thought I'd start up a thread for the positive amongst us to list everything that we think is great about this country.

My thoughts - I love the beautiful British countryside and the fact that it looks different in every season. I love our friendly village pubs that serve good beer and good pub grub. I love our coastline, some of the most beautiful in the world.

Over to you guys - let's keep this thread going ........

Ok...I have got a reply from Gransnet and they have said they don't read all the responses but if anyone reports a post - for whatever reason - they strike it off and send the poster a warning!

That simply isn't true.

Fluffy kittens are cute but they grow into cats!

Nico97 Sat 07-Dec-19 22:45:33

Hmm...maybe the moderator is one of the ones who doesn't like this thread ? For the record Tedber I also saw your post and didn't think there was anything wrong with it and was quite surprised to see it had been deleted.

Tedber Sat 07-Dec-19 22:40:51

Apparently opal. Exactly that! If someone reports a post .. Gransnet don’t look at the bigger picture.. they just delete and issue a warning via email!

Opal Sat 07-Dec-19 22:29:31

Tedber - I read your post and there was nothing wrong with it. So what happens if a post is reported, because someone doesn't like it or disagrees with it, but there is actually nothing wrong with it and it is just an opinion? Do Gransnet still delete it, just because it's been reported? How can they justify that? We are all entitled to an opinion. I've seen far worse posts on other political threads, and they don't get deleted. confused

I think there are a lot of things wrong with our country at the moment but would I want to live anywhere else? Absolutely not! There is far more to be thankful for and I am thankful!

Tedber Sat 07-Dec-19 21:59:30

Ok...I have got a reply from Gransnet and they have said they don't read all the responses but if anyone reports a post - for whatever reason - they strike it off and send the poster a warning! They say they take a very "light handed approach to moderating comments" and only look at the one post that was reported. Do me a favour? I am probably one of the most posters who TRIES to be objective, informative and non contentious but even then I have been warned twice! So how does anyone ever express their views here without being 'warned'? Seemingly, IF you are lucky enough not to be 'reported' you can say what you want?

jura2 Sat 07-Dec-19 21:14:54

Doodle, no worries- glad you got it x

Cecil Rhodes, blimey?

M0nica Sat 07-Dec-19 21:12:14

Tedber why not reword it and repost it. I read it, I confess I do not remember what it said, but if it had said aything offensive I would have definitely rememebered it.

Possibly the GNHQ person who read it, read a meaning in to it that has eluded everybody else including the author. confused

crystaltipps Sat 07-Dec-19 20:50:25

Well don’t blame me - I didn’t read it .

Tedber Sat 07-Dec-19 20:49:30

I really, honestly, don't know why my post was deleted in response to Crystaltipps! It wasn't challenging in any way. I have asked Gransnet WHY it was deleted. I won't repeat what it said as obviously THAT will be deleted as well but I seriously have no idea why my challenge on Crystaltipps as opposed to others was deleted? Are there some people more privileged than others to express their views?

crystaltipps Sat 07-Dec-19 20:48:06

I wouldn’t rely on Cecil Rhodes.... well known as a land grabbing racist and white supremacist..

Doodle Sat 07-Dec-19 20:40:58

jura I apologise unreservedly. I did not spot the YouTube link at the bottom of your thread and assumed you were making a different point. I am sorry.

Methinks we sail in on their coattails, inkcog.....

inkcog Sat 07-Dec-19 20:34:44

How does that work if you are a Welsh woman?

HettyMaud Sat 07-Dec-19 20:32:27

Cecil Rhodes Quotes:

don't think you quite got the meaning of my last message Doodle ...

and yes, I do love fluffy kittens.

Doodle Sat 07-Dec-19 20:28:55

You were doing so well till your last comment jura.
People who do not agree with you are not idiots they just have a different opinion. I cannot understand why you cannot understand that.

jura2 Sat 07-Dec-19 20:25:29

ah fluffy kittens- I love them too ...

it is actually possible to love fluffy kittens, be happy and positive... and have a brain too, for sure
