Foods that we eat...

I think we all make choices. I wear leather shoes. I know they are a meat industry by-product but am ok with it whilst so many people are still eating meat.
I wouldn't buy fur or 'exotic-skin' (for want of a better word) footwear though.
Mammals seem to me to be a starting point and I personally don't find it odd.

I do actually - it comes from the German root “Fleisch” and “meat” was a general word for food, as it “sweetmeats” or the Selkirk Grace

'Meat' is a euphemism. Don't you know old fashioned butchers were called 'fleshers'?

Maybe she eats meats of non-mamals? Such as birds? Or fish?

Maw, I too am very interested in punctuation, and other aspects of written language. Farview's post was intelligible, elegant, and concise and her punctuation was more than adequate to her purpose of conveying her message.

PS I ate a lamb chop because I got it as a gift and it was already dead. Have not bought mammal tissues for self or guests for more than a year.

Farview, quite simply it's because I am sufficiently cruel, ignorant, and insensitive enough to do so.

In my own defence I am trying to not eat mammal flesh. I still tell myself convenient lies about fish. I also use butter and cheese and I kid myself I am doing well to always substiture Oatly for liquid mammals' milk.

I have actually burnt them, but they will still be eaten.

It’s not very nice when you think too much about it and personally I eat very little meat. However as someone else said humans are carnivores and we need the protein meat provides for our health and for our children’s development. The other aspect is that the would be no lambs, piglets and maybe no chickens either if they weren’t bred for food. Farm animals would become largely extinct. Would that be preferable? I’m not sure...

To compare oneself to Dylan Thomas or Paddy Doyle seems immodest to say the least but why stop there? James Joyce or e.e.cummings surely beckon.
As for that snippy comment - apart from being uncalled for (but, in mitigation, perhaps you are a newish member and do not “know” me or have not read my contributions over the last 9 years) it is rich coming from an OP who quite clearly set out to stir vegetarian/vegan/carnivore philosophies.

We keep hens for eggs and twice a year buy chicks to rear for the table (only for ourselves, not to sell). At the moment we have two turkeys as well. All the animals are treated well and get good food. My husband even boils nettles to give them as a natural medicine! He slaughters them himself and we both pluck and clean them. Nothing is wasted apart from feathers and intestines. What we don't eat the dogs and cats have.
The animals have had a good life and even DH's daughter who is vegetarian will eat a little of our chicken because they are ethically raised. My husband (and I) like meat but we only eat our own chicken and meat from the local butcher.

As usual Bradford Lass hit the nail on the head with her comments, it's how the animals are treated, farmed, butchered that matters the most.
If the demand for milk products was reduced we would have less cows, I know some people who delight in saying how they don't eat meat or eat very little yet happily gulp down hot chocolate piled high with cream and marshmallows

I love animals. I love seeing little springy lambs and doe eyed cows in the fields. And I love seeing the pigs in their pen at the corner of the lane. I also love a juicy steak and a nice lamb chop. But I especially love a bacon sandwich.
So long as it's not factory farmed; had a decent quality of life and hung it's head over a fence for a while; I'll eat it.
