How Much!!!

I have an ironing board, from Asda. Think it was about £10. It hasn't seen light of day for several years - ironing is too tedious. If I look a bit crumpled at times, so be it - I do try to shake clothes vigorously before I put them away - is that not enough?

What's an ironing board?

My ironing board collapsed the other week after quite a few years of use. I could not believe my eyes when I looked for a new board, starting prices of £30 upwards! I had been in a Nearly New shop recently as DH and I bought a small second hand fridge for my daughter and family (they have a small bar). Whilst there I spied four ironing boards. I returned to the shop and examined the boards - one of which was a Beldray. I chose one virtually the same as my collapsed one. I came away with a nice artificial foliage wreath I spied and the ironing board - both items for a negotiated price of £10. Happy days!

Brabantia for me too. Had mine for years and replaced the cover once. Well worth the extra expense I think.

Mine had a block of asbestos on the end to rest the iron on, then when there was that scare of asbestos my DH got rid of that block, and disposed of it. Safely.

Still using mine since 1965.
Never let me down.

I boought an ironing board because it wasn't that expensive and now regret not checking how the iron would sit on the end... I do a lot of sewing and dressmaking. Do consider that aspect.

Mine was a wedding present, so this year was 58 years old.
It is a metal Camyad, now classed as Vintage.
It is sturdy and has had many changes of covers over the years, so is an old and trusted friend.
Even DH has got the hang of using it now. ?

Mine is from Tesco and cost £20. Been going strong for ages. My daughter had one last year for the same price in Tesco.

Mine is also a Minky extra wide, can`t remember how much, but around £28/29.

Mine is a Minky and I have had it for years so I can recommend that mid range make.

I've got a Brabantia which I have had for years. It has had a few new covers but 'it' is still going strong.

Why not look on Amazon and compare customer reviews?

My mum had a wooden one for as long as I can remember and it used to creak.

You can order it online, and pick it up from Sainsbury's if it's nearer.?

They don't last, however much you pay for them!

Ours has collapsed again.
The best one we had I found in my aunt's shed when we were clearing the house, it lasted for years. I am sure my aunt would have been pleased it went to good use.

get one from argos.

The last and existing ironing board I bought was a number of years ago at a charity shop, new at the time and it cost me all of £5 ! It's strong and has seen me through tons of ironing. It's a Beldray by the way.

I begrudge paying through the nose for something like that.

Still using our 44 year old wedding present in 'Burnt Orange'. So evocative of the 1970's.
It came with mop and bucket, veg rack, cutlery tray and pegs, all in the same colour plastic.
Given to us by the lovely women who ran the community centre where DH and I met
Sadly all now deceased (not DH)

In the days when I used to do ironing ( ), I bought an extra wide board by Minky and it was surprising how it cut down the time taken, especially for bedding.

I have been using a Beldray extra wide ironing board for a few years it was about £40ish which I thought expensive at the time but as the saying says you pay for what you get.

I had a very expensive one where the steam sort of went through the base and then came back up through the holes. It was brilliant in the days when I used to iron lots of jeans for the kids. Also amazing for bed linen. Now I have a standard Brabantia and it does the job.

I can't say if any brands are better than others but I usually go mid-range - not too cheap to collapse or expensive enough for a professionals.
If any branded ones have a good name I'd maybe go for that. Would a supermarket have anything sturdy?
