My last build (small side extension) the builders commissioned a portaloo cabin, but once the cloakroom was in the extension they got rid of the portaloo and started using that. I can't say I blamed them, the portaloo was meant to be cleaned and emptied once a week but the hirers never turned up and it stank something awful. I never let anyone use my ensuite though - don't want them walking through my bedroom. We have a seperate bathroom on the 1st floor and I used to let visitors use that before we had the cloakroom. Very handy for anyone doing outside work too as I only have to leave the outer door open and lock the inner one.

And the Brexit donation?

I offer hot drinks to workmen but they often don’t accept. Most like to work through without lunch, or they bring their own and eat in their van.
Now we have an Aldi just nearby some pop over there for a sandwich and to use the loo.
We have two loos and most workmen will ask out of politeness before using the loo. I am sure they don’t expect to be refused or to be told to flush and wash their hands.

Research at Newcastle University showed that a photo of a pair of eyes accompanying a printed request made people more likely to comply with the request. Sadly, male eyes worked better than female eyes! Perhaps OP could put up a notice with a photo of the South African rugby captain.
Although it's not nice for someone not to wash their hands, I think some people on this thread are being snooty about workmen. Do you check if your other male visitors wash their hands? Again, research indicates that the majority of men do not wash their hands after a pee, doctors on duty included!

The same happened here and I was so indignant that in spite of being ultra shy I snapped and told the person it was unacceptable to lave the loo as he did. And it is! Don’t understand about the lunchmoney.

We live next to a piece of council park land. There was a driver who regularly parked & trotted into the bushes for a wee. Don't know what he does now though as the council decimated the trees & cleared all the shrubs away! Our local PCSO is lovely & chatty and she knows our cloakroom & drink is on offer whenever she's on foot patrol. She appreciates the gesture.

Once upon a time I would not have objected to workmen using the toilet, that is until a few years back I was having major work done, I discovered that some of them, were missing the pan and I had to clean the floor up. I was furious, I told the senior chap that as I have never had to do this after DH, and stopped having to do it for DS when he was about 4 years old, they would not be using it again.

No-one can flush the loo today as water is turned off.

Waitrose is a 5 minute jog away and Yodel and Hermes both have an app which shows you how many stops the driver has before he delivers to me so I have plenty of time to shop.

You cannot expect people to work and not need the loo! If you find that they have not flushed or suspect that they have not washed their hands then say something - it is your house and home. I wouldnt give them their dinner money though. Workmen usually turn up with their own food and sometimes sit in their van to eat. I would just want them to get the job done and offer them the use of both the toilet and the kitchen table for their lunch but maybe I am wrong.

Frankly, why and also why the “lunch money” for workmen. That seems extraordinarily patronising.

Always offer tea/coffee/cold drinks plus biccies to workmen. I was brought up to as my dad was a brickie and knew how much it was appreciated. He always took his 'baggin' (sandwiches) and a billy containing loose tea & sugar so all he required was boiling water. I too have noticed a trend to work on through lunch to get jobs completed when they're self employed. Sign of the economy. My recent tradesman even brought his own kettle but asked to keep his carton of milk in the fridge! Says he provides his own as he can never be certain he'll be offered. I'm grateful that we now have another loo & designate that for their use. Seems to work. I never provide lunch though.
