Having just watched the interview with Emily Maitlis, I just cannot make my mind up about him , I find it strange that he could not recollect having that photo taken with the girl with his arm around him , I thought he was very cautious with his answers, What do you all think ?

merlotgran Sun 17-Nov-19 17:04:48

HQ have warned us about the laws of libel in the past. I remember a thread about PA being deleted a few years ago.

lemongrove Sun 17-Nov-19 16:51:36

Yes, Iam64 I agree.??

suziewoozie you should give a flying fig for the laws of libel....we all should, as GN is a public forum not a cosy cafe chat somewhere between friends.

suziewoozie Sun 17-Nov-19 16:50:53

The problem Iam of course is that PA is a bear of very little brain and thinks only through his penis

suziewoozie Sun 17-Nov-19 16:49:10

I couldn’t give a flying fig about the laws of libel. For one thing I think the truth is even worse than we know already and the idea that he would sue and let the truth come out?

Iam64 Sun 17-Nov-19 16:44:01

lemon- his big mistake was to enter into a friendship with Epstein who made no secret of his lifestyle. Networking is one thing, where many people have business acquaintances they wouldn't see as friends because their business dealings or personal lives are sleazy. JE was totally sleazy, obvious to anyone with a brain .......

lemongrove Sun 17-Nov-19 16:39:45

Actually, it’s libel, not slander, isn’t it, being written down.

lemongrove Sun 17-Nov-19 16:38:57

Hope you’re all being careful about the laws of slander?!
I watched this interview last night and thought why on earth did he agree to do it? He was never going to come out of it well, no royal ever does. Now the body language experts will have a field day with it I bet.
His big mistake was to continue the friendship with Epstein and not to say this in the interview ( that it was his mistake )
Because not being apologetic and sorry, and appearing to be arrogant, ruins the point of his ‘coming clean’ interview IMHO.

suziewoozie Sun 17-Nov-19 16:37:12

You can be at a birthday party early evening in Woking and then at a party in Belgravia later that night. It wasn’t as though he’d have to use public transport. This is a red herring and a ridiculous alibi

Cherrytree59 Sun 17-Nov-19 16:34:08

Why can't he prove where he was or was not?
Surely the Royal staff keep diaries.

There must be instructions somewhere in writing regarding who is rostered on as Prince Andrew's security staff, whilst in the US and at home.

Prince Andrew mentions his 'security people' in the interview.

If he went to the pizza parlour as he said with his daughter, then surely he would have had a security personal with him and the visit recorded in the security officers notes.

If there was an emergency the
the royal machine would have to be put into motion quite quickly. and obviously have to know the whereabouts of all the Senior Royal Family bearing in mind that P A was further up the Royal Line at the time

oldgimmer1 Sun 17-Nov-19 16:22:51

@floradora he couldn't condemn the actions of his "friend" though, could he, because that would give weight to a friendship that wasnt, according to PA, a friendship at all.

He seems to me to be distancing himself from Epstein, who is conveniently dead and can't contradict the account.

By saying he didn't do it, he'd be open to accusations of lying. By saying he can't remember, he can't be accused of lying.

I agree he's had sound legal advice, and is fudging.

Floradora9 Sun 17-Nov-19 15:29:09

If only he had said that he condemned the actions of his friend just once. It was pointed out on the radio that he had meant " loyalty " instead of honour. The Pizza place he is reputed to have gone to is now getting spoof trip advisor reviews saying how a visit there makes you loose your memory etc.. He never once said he refuted the claim that he had sex with this young girl just said he did not remember him. He was not ill advised to do this interview he did it against lots of advice to the contrary .

morethan2 Sun 17-Nov-19 15:16:08

He tells us his biggest weakness is “his tendency to be honourable”. In my opinion that’s the one thing he’s not guilty of. If he didn’t join in with the abuse he must have known or suspected it was going on. At the very least it shows very bad judgement. Its all a bit sleazy.

mrsmopp Sun 17-Nov-19 15:10:09

At no point in the interview did Andrew say “I didn’t do it.”
I think he has been advised not to say “I didn’t do it.”
Because he clearly did. More then once.
He wriggles out by saying I don’t remember.
That’s his defense? Unbelievable.

TV presenter Carol Vorderman tweeted: '#PrinceAndrew So I didn't speak to him for 4 years because it wasn't appropriate, but when he was released from prison for sex offences I didn't ring him..no.., I flew to America to tell him in person that I STILL wasn't going to talk to him...RUN THAT BY ME AGAIN.'

Gonegirl Sun 17-Nov-19 13:45:21

sw I have contributed.

Not good to use it emojis to mock someone's post.

nightswimmer Sun 17-Nov-19 13:44:31

He wasn't very convincing. Still I suppose a nice scoop for the Beeb. Shed loads of money and expensive lawyers to dig him out if needed!

annodomini Sun 17-Nov-19 13:37:28

Nothing in that interview could persuade me that his Highness was anything but up to his neck in the sleaze of Epstein's 'business'. What annoyed me most was his very skewed idea of 'honour' that make him maintain contact with his old chum who had done time for grooming under-age girls and supplying them to the visitors to his house and Ms Maxwell's sumptuous pad in Belgravia.
PA had clearly been trained for the interview to simply deny any knowledge or memory of events reported by Virginia. Roberts. Not once did his facial expression change to show any reaction to the persistent questioning. If I was being truly cynical, I might imagine that he had had his memories changed by a skilled hypnotist if such a person existed.

suziewoozie Sun 17-Nov-19 13:36:07

Why ‘ bitchy’ Gone and why do you think it’s fine to use misogynist language? Why don’t you try a thoughtful contribution to the thread instead?

suziewoozie Sun 17-Nov-19 13:33:30

Urm I read the Google reviews last night - I almost cried with laughter.

The funniest thing on MN about this was a post that said at the moment M and H could fly by private jet from Frogmore to Pizza Express at Woking and no one would notice

merlotgran Sun 17-Nov-19 13:19:01

I liked the tweet that said, Prince Andrew has single handedly saved Pizza Express. grin

Urmstongran Sun 17-Nov-19 12:57:44

A series of seemingly mocking fake reviews have now been left for the restaurant on TripAdvisor and elsewhere, poking fun at PA for his performance during the interview.

One said: 'I have no recollection of ever visiting this restaurant or ever having heard of pizzas. Or Woking.
'If I did visit the place it must be because I am so honourable. But I stress, I never went here. Unless you have a photo of me being here, in which case I have.'
?

Gonegirl Sun 17-Nov-19 12:56:39

Still doing the bitchy laughing emojis then susiewoozie. hmm

oldgimmer1 Sun 17-Nov-19 12:54:35

PA can't remember the photo. It can't be proven to be genuine or fake. Even if it WAS genuine and therefore proves that PA and Roberts met, that's all it does.

Gonegirl Sun 17-Nov-19 12:54:14

Breaking news: PA media adviser has resigned

shock Can't imagine why. hmm

sunseeker Sun 17-Nov-19 12:52:32

It must be remembered these girls were groomed, made to think no-one would believe them. It was only after Epstein went to prison that they started to come forward, which is probably when the photo was released.

I find it hard to understand those who say they would have stayed friends with someone convicted of sex crimes. If someone came to me and told me they were attracted to children and under age girls but had never acted on it I would do everything I could to support and help them. However, if I knew someone who had been convicted of such crimes I would drop them like a hot potato
