If anything, a spell in the RN should have tempered Andrew's arrogant behaviour. He had to be part of a team and fight alongside his fellow officers and ratings, relying on their training and support for his very survival.

OMG some of the assumptions made and the extreme conclusions drawn by some on this thread are amazing. Firstly I never suggested that the armed forces were linked to paedophilia (and as I understand it PA would not even be guilty of any such offence in this country, the age of consent being 16 not 17). If you chose to draw that conclusion perhaps it says more about you and your life experiences than it does me. I did say that the armed forces are not appropriate or good places for some people to spend time. I would imagine there are many jobs that do not suit some people and that only reinforce existing damage rather than helping to change attitudes So I am certainly not going to apologise for anything I said. The only thing that would make me apologise would be some definite proof that his service helped PA change his attitudes and become a better person and we all know there isn't any.

Today Prince Andrew comes face to face with Charles for the first time since this kicked off. Would love to be a fly on the wall.

I like the idea of monarchy by family dynasty.

The children can be reared and educated to the job along with its special moral requirements as with some families with medical tradition, or deep sea fishing, or farming.

The royal family is not up to date. It is too much a family of silly aristocrats where it should be a family of service where service is required even serving in a badly paid job such as nursing. If the Duke of York was not intellectually fitted for a posh job he should have done some lowly manual job or perhaps served in the back room of some charity such as Shelter.

Prince Charles seems to have an idea of the meaning of 'service'. He will be a good monarch as is his mother. He will need to stop killing animals for fun.

If our head of state were an elected one we could not have got a better one than Elizabeth Windsor.

Queen Elizabeth has fulfilled her duty to the country. As we are a sovereign nation, she should hand over the reins to Prince Charles who, after his early unfortunate choice of bride, has proved in spades that he cares for the people, the environment and nature. The RF needs to become worthy of the respect it is afforded.
