It's so sad when special people disappear. Any news on the recently departed?

Pantglas2 Sun 17-Nov-19 18:53:29

As a relative newcomer (May) to GN I don’t feel left out or cliquey - I comment/congratulate or commiserate as I like on the Good Morning thread.

I don’t remember everyone’s detailed lifestyle or current problems but some I may have something in common with them. Like Urmstongran I spend a lot of time in Spain, like Anniebach I’m Welsh, like others I’m retired and I have a husband with health problems like Gillybob.

Occasionally someone will comment on something in my post but I don’t take offence if no one does - let’s face it there are around 50-70 posting on that thread each day and none of us has the time to comment on each and every post!

Give it another go folks - it really is the kindest place and we all need some of that in our lives don’t we?

Anepp Posters are not silly to complain if they see something they disagree with. Gransnet is for everyone. If someone wants to start a thread they can. That comment was patronising.

Exactly rafichagran. If someone else wants to start a Good Morning thread no one should tell them they can't because it belongs to Michael.
And I am entitled to think something is silly.

One of the gang??Back to school ?‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍??‍?‍?‍?

I could have, Urmstongran!

You made me smile.

I guess I am just not in here often enough.

Maybe someone could start a Good Evening thread!

Marydoll Sun 17-Nov-19 17:38:45

This thread and some of the comments posted, has got me thinking about the GM thread.
I have never been part of a clique before and if that is how it comes across to some posters, then my sincerest apologies to those who feel that.
I was Marydoll nae pals at school, so I know what it is like to feel excluded! I just see it as a gentle, warm thread with no animosity and digs at posters.

I was once the new girl on the thread, but was given a warm welcome at a very low point in my life.
You only get to know people by reading the whole thread and then actually posting on it.
It doesn't happen overnight.
So if you have been put off, please give it another go.

It may seem, housewifey, and bland to some, but it suits us.

Urmstongran Sun 17-Nov-19 17:34:33

Everyone was very nice

There you go oopsminty you could have bedded in from there. I posted for ages before I felt ‘one of the gang’ but I don’t give up easily. ‘You WILL like me ...!!’
?

Oopsminty Sun 17-Nov-19 17:26:35

I did pop into the Good Morning thread once. I was excited about going to see my brand new second granddaughter.

Everyone was very nice but it's very obvious it would take a lot of time and effort to get to 'know' everyone as well as the regulars seem to.

Never been in Soops Kitchen.

Oldandverygrey Sun 17-Nov-19 17:22:51

I have been in the Good Morning thread, found it very cliquey, never tried soops kitchen I find the title a little odd.

kittylester Sun 17-Nov-19 17:04:04

Sounds like a good idea!

grapefruitpip Sun 17-Nov-19 16:59:46

I might start Ploops kitchen.

Gonegirl Sun 17-Nov-19 16:43:11

I don't go in soop's kitchen. ?

MawB Sun 17-Nov-19 16:26:04

This is becoming a “thread about a thread” so will no doubt be for the chop any minute now , but I remember when Mick had his computer problems - however I have NO recollection of you or anybody else being “slapped down” confused

Calendargirl Sun 17-Nov-19 16:17:16

I’ve never looked at SOOP’s kitchen, as it seemed such an odd thread title.
Do the initials stand for something significant?
Also never looked at Good Morning one as it sounded a bit like Housewife’s Choice or the Jimmy Young Show, a bit dated somehow, but I shall make a point of checking them both out.

kittylester Sun 17-Nov-19 16:04:57

Mick came to gransnet with a few other people from another 'forum' when it was shut down. He had always started A Good Morning thread there and suggested he did the same here - I think! Please put me right old-timers if that's not the case.

SOOP's Kitchen is a similar 'special' place. It's a long standing convention. As I said previously, it's how we like to do it.

By all means start your own Good Morning threads but dont be surprised if most people ignore you and go for Mick's.

And, why not visit the thread with an open mind - you might like it!

Megs36 Sun 17-Nov-19 15:38:22

Bluebelle I rest my case. ??

BlueBelle Sun 17-Nov-19 15:20:55

I tend to agree with you rafia about the Good morning thread I was a long time ago slapped on the wrist about Mick starting it I just thought he was an early riser I didn’t realise he was the only one that could start it until that moment and maybe someone can explain to me why ‘we are all protective of Mick’ Is he unwell ? I ve made sure I never broke the unseen rules since and rarely look at that thread now I can take a hint ?

rafichagran Sun 17-Nov-19 14:59:05

Was not meant too.

rafichagran Sun 17-Nov-19 14:58:39

Ha Ha Maw It did sound like a sentence in a political speech. It was meant to. grin

Megs36 Sun 17-Nov-19 14:28:22

Interesting comments about Mick starting This morning posts, some while ago when I and a poster in Oz commented when 'he' had computer problems and wasn't starting the morning, I was severely slapped down by many regular names, I then suggested cliquey but was assured that is not the case......

MawB Sun 17-Nov-19 14:12:29

“About everyone, not just the few” - now where have I heard that before? ??grin

rafichagran Sun 17-Nov-19 14:10:34

Not rude, Kittylester, Grannet is a public forum anyone can post or start a thread. I will not post on Good Morning and respect there may be a reason other people cannot start the post; you need to remember Gransnet is a Public and about everyone, not just the few.

grapefruitpip Sun 17-Nov-19 14:09:57

Please could somebody tell me, so I don't put my foot in it again, what's what?

Gabriella is back but she was also somebody else?

It's beyond my pea sized brain.

kittylester Sun 17-Nov-19 13:49:59

I'd also like to add, that it would be silly for those of us who have been around for ages to pretend we don't know each other!

GreatNan put me right about that ages ago!

GracesGranMK3 Sun 17-Nov-19 13:48:03

.no poster, either past or present should be talked about after they have left the forum, especially having a thread started up about them.

You mean tearing apart a group of members who take a break is actually not allowed Lemongrove. This must be a very new rule as I very clearly remember you joining in the attacks that could be described in exactly that way.

kittylester Sun 17-Nov-19 13:46:43

And , annepl, it's a bit rude joining a long standing 'group' without being polite enough to find out how things operate!
