Sad to read that Harry, Megan and Archie will not be with the royal family for Christmas. The Queen and Prince Phillip are so elderly now, who knows if they will be here next year. It would have been lovely to see photos of the family with the little family included. Sign of the times, when even the royal family are being pulled apart.sad

Merlotgran today 15.30.

Very well said and sums up what I think too.

grapefruitpip Fri 15-Nov-19 21:23:23

How , on earth, can anybody become so partisan about people ( women) we don't know?

Oopsminty Fri 15-Nov-19 21:29:15

I've always been mildly irritated by Holly Willoughby, grapefruitpip

No real reason.

Can't be doing with many male politicians either

I've not met any of them

Anniebach Fri 15-Nov-19 21:29:22

For me, going by what they say ,not the media’ and what they do. Suppose no different to those who support/don’t support politicians

If Harry and Megan wish to withdraw from the DUTY they have to the Queen (and the country, as taxpayers contribute to their lavish lifestyle) then they can do so ….as long as their grace and favour house is given to more deserving , hard working young couple(s) (big enough for more than ONE couple), their expense are no longer paid by any taxpayer, but by the Queen personally, and they are relegated to the ranks of hard working young couples who have to budget carefully to pay their mortgages, child care, etc I love the RF, the Queen does a wonderful job having declared when she ascended to the throne that her life would be one of dedication to the people and her duty as Queen. I admired (ed) Harry and thought he was wonderful when he instigated the Invictus Games ...a fantastic achievement but now it is really time he stepped up to the mark and accepted that he and his wife CANNOT be an ordinary couple and OWE a duty to the Queen and country as long as he wishes to remain a privileged Prince of the United Kingdom

crown
Anyone like my new hat?

Interesting times.....Meghan's court case is hotting up and Andrew's interview with Emily Maitlis is on TV tomorrow night.

I bet the Queen wishes she could use a cattle prod to keep them under control.

GeorgyGirl Fri 15-Nov-19 23:36:42

I do think it would have been nice for them to have been with the Royal Family and to have had Meghan's Mother come over and be with them, as she is Archie's maternal Grandmother and his paternal Grandmother is so very sadly no longer there, so it could have been the best solution.

I think having a monarchy is an outdated concept and it would be a good idea, once the queen dies, to just let the rest of them quietly fade from the picture, at the same time as reducing their funding over a period of 5-8 years to give them time to adjust to their new financial situation. (It's not going to happen of course, at least not in my lifetime).

Apart from the obnoxious and sinister Andrew, my dislike is of the monarchical system and I have no strong feelings about the individuals within it.

However, I dislike witch hunts and the constant criticisms of even the dead Diana (who at least did something worthwhile during her short life - eg her land mine, AIDS, and leprosy campaigns). Now her least favoured son Harry and his wife Meghan are the new targets.. As usual anniebach you are at the forefront of any spiteful comments aimed at these three people.

suziewoozie Sat 16-Nov-19 00:43:51

lilyflower what are you on? Am I missing the joke?

suziewoozie Sat 16-Nov-19 00:47:05

And clearly the BBC is now the RBBC in its new role of PR for the mates of convicted paedeophiles. What a thoroughly disgusting thing for the BBC to do. It makes me want to ?

suziewoozie Sat 16-Nov-19 00:47:45

But never mind, back to the evil MegHan

quizqueen Sat 16-Nov-19 01:51:17

I have no problem with M and H spending alternate Christmas with different families. Of course Meghan wants to spend some time with her mother, as did Katherine. What I do object to is their constant whining about how hard done by they are and then telling other people ( the plebs) how they should live when they themselves do the exact opposite.

I would like all the Royals except for the direct descendants of the heirs to the throne to find outside jobs and fend for themselves. M and H seem to want to spend a few weeks in the USA because they need a 'rest'. Apparently another 90+ year in the family doesn't need a rest though. How much will that holiday jolly cost the taxpayer in security alone? No, I've had enough of that pair. Time for Meghan to return to acting and Harry get himself a nice little charity job somewhere.

crystaltipps Sat 16-Nov-19 01:54:04

Is having Christmas dinner with the family a “royal duty”? I know we pay to gawp at them, but surely they can have Christmas Day off and do their own thing if that’s what they want.

MissAdventure Sat 16-Nov-19 09:12:07

I often wonder that, too.
Are they given a list of duties when they marry?

Who here has seen this list?

netflixfan Sat 16-Nov-19 09:36:57

I bet the Queen doesn't care.

eazybee Sat 16-Nov-19 09:53:32

Spending Christmas day with the Queen isn't a royal duty, it is a tradition. Remembering the Sussexes' snub of the Queen's invitation in the summer, when they were able to visit Elton John and she flew to America that weekend to watch a tennis match, it would have been courteous to have spent a day at least with the Queen, bearing in mind that their income derives, not from the taxpayer, but from the Sovereign's Grant and the Duchy of Cornwall.

Anniebach Sat 16-Nov-19 10:06:38

There are royalists who turn up at Sandringham every Christmas morning to see and greet the royals at they leave Church .

It is not an official royal duty , it is a tradition.

Harry and Megan want the privileges that come with the job but not the traditions

suziewoozie Sat 16-Nov-19 10:21:40

Meanwhile HM allows BP to be used for her apparently favourite son,to explain to the nation why he stayed at the home of a convicted paedophile and how he has ‘no recollection’ of meeting ‘that lady’. Note he does not deny it because he knows there is plenty of evidence that he did - not least the photograph in which he is pawing at her bare midriff
But oh dear, that evil witch MegHan and the damage she is doing to our glorious RF.

annep1 Sat 16-Nov-19 10:33:12

quizqueen totally agree!

timetogo2016 Sat 16-Nov-19 10:46:01

TBH they are just like any other family but with mega bucks.

Anniebach Sat 16-Nov-19 10:47:55

The Queen has 8 grandchildren, 6 are not on the civil list,

Charles is heir to the throne, Ann does much for charity as does Edward so the numbers have been slimmed down, exception is Harry, all the privileges for very little work.

suziewoozie Sat 16-Nov-19 10:52:57

Yep * time* they are just like any other family - using the BBC to try and get one of their own off the hook. Remind member was it the BBC who facilitated and thus enabled Savile’s behaviour? They’ve got form, haven’t they? Meanwhile, ack at Frogmore, more plotting to bring the RF into proper disrepute.

suziewoozie Sat 16-Nov-19 10:53:27

Remind me ( damn auto correct)

GoldenAge Sat 16-Nov-19 11:36:38

The Royal Family ??? really ??? what kind of a family role model is this that includes adultery right at the top that has lasted for years and years and years? Such sentimentalism is totally misplaced. There is nothing whatsoever to look up to in this family and whilst I fully accept that other families may have all the same problems, other families don't receive the shocking amount of support or have the accumulated wealth that the Royal Family has. Let whoever wants in that particular family do what they want to do and let's cut their allowances
