Sad to read that Harry, Megan and Archie will not be with the royal family for Christmas. The Queen and Prince Phillip are so elderly now, who knows if they will be here next year. It would have been lovely to see photos of the family with the little family included. Sign of the times, when even the royal family are being pulled apart.sad

I’ve always wondered about that annep1 - whether people actually speak that way in real life to people they obviously dislike. Wouldn’t you just ignore them?

annep1 Thu 21-Nov-19 06:56:55

Pantglas2 Yes.
I suppose I should just ignore posts I don't like too.

I feel so sad for HM. She bears the family shenanigans with a stoic calm. Respect.

Urmstongran Thu 21-Nov-19 07:50:36

She does indeed Gabriella and she has served her kingdom well (my, that even sounds old fashioned nowadays!)

I think when HM dies we should either abolish the monarchy or severely pare it right back - it needs a damn good pruning in my opinion!

Iam64 Thu 21-Nov-19 08:28:01

I agree Urmston about paring back the Monarchy when Her Maj dies. I hope Charles will do that.

What an unpleasant post suzywoozie. Annie said nothing to invoke that vitriol. I do hope you do not speak to people in real life in the same way.

dragonfly46 Thu 21-Nov-19 08:41:25

I love the Queen and admire her, however, it is true the monarchy is outdated. They should look to the Dutch Royal family who have moved with the times and are much loved by the people.

Anniebach Thu 21-Nov-19 08:44:31

If Charles slims down the Monarchy who should go ?

Ann, Edward and Sophie, Harry and Megan ? These carry out
official duties.

It leaves Charles, Camilla, William and Kate.

sodapop Thu 21-Nov-19 08:53:47

I would include Anne as she works hard. Edward and Sophie as well, Sophie is an asset and Edward is set to take over as D of E. None of the others apart from Annie's four.

Anniebach Thu 21-Nov-19 09:07:59

So it isn’t a large number who do carry out official duties Sodapop

Charles stopped Beatrice and Eugenie taking on official duties and having security. Ann’s children do their own thing, Edwards children are in school.

suziewoozie Thu 21-Nov-19 10:29:55

annie always spells MegHan’ name incorrectly and imo deliberately. Her posts on many threads(sometimes nothing to do with MegHan) are always critical of MegHan usually for the most trivial of reasons. No I wouldn’t speak to someone in RL like that because if we were speaking, they couldn’t be spelling her name incorrectly, would they?

Gonegirl Thu 21-Nov-19 10:31:48

Annie simply spells the name the Welsh way. To be honest, that's the way I think it should be spelt. Stop being so suspicious and critical sw. hmm

Gonegirl Thu 21-Nov-19 10:32:25

There again - little things and little minds.

suziewoozie Thu 21-Nov-19 10:32:58

And in RL the people I know would always do their best to spell peoples names correctly - because why wouldn’t they? I think to continue misspelling is a form of passive aggressive behaviour.

suziewoozie Thu 21-Nov-19 10:33:51

Well MegHan isn’t Welsh * Gone* is she?

suziewoozie Thu 21-Nov-19 10:38:26

And Gone if repeatedly misspelling the name isn’t petty, I don’t know what is. Except perhaps defending the indefensible

Callistemon Thu 21-Nov-19 10:39:27

suziewoozie I've never heard Anniebach make a racist remark; besides which we have no idea whether or not she or any of her family, or indeed any of us, are black or mixed race.

It's unfortunate that Meghan isn't Welsh but we can't all be so fortunate.

My Australian wellies will keep calling her Meegan (they love her).

Callistemon Thu 21-Nov-19 10:39:59

Not wellies - rellies

This tablet knows best.

Rowantree Thu 21-Nov-19 10:49:32

Honestly, who gives a flying flamingo what the Windsors are up to at Yultide? It doesn't affect any of us directly. Whatever they do, they can spend it in Butlins as long as we don't have to fund it.
The sooner they're gone, the better.

Anniebach Thu 21-Nov-19 10:52:31

Some in real life say ‘f f s ‘, , I don’t so , we all have different real lives it seems.

suziewoozie Thu 21-Nov-19 10:58:30

I never said she had Call I am trying to understand why the misspelling and constant petty criticism . There are many discussions out there in RL, MSM, social media that believe that the constant pile ons re MegHan are rooted in racism and I have some sympathy with that view - black MPs (and especially black women MPs) suffer disproportionately from online abuse and certainly on here, there have been racist posts about Diane Abbot. I think the kindest thing to say about GN and racism is that there is at least some examples of unconscious racism.
In some of my working life I often had to pronounce the names of a wide range of people from a variety of countries. I would brief myself beforehand and write it down as it was said so I showed proper respect. Sadly there was the odd colleague who would just shorten a difficult name and ask with a laugh if it was OK to do that, putting the person in an impossible situation.

suziewoozie Thu 21-Nov-19 11:00:45

I think spelling and pronouncing names properly is a basic courtesy and if someone repeatedly doesn’t, we should ask ourselves why

Rowantree Thu 21-Nov-19 11:08:07

Completely agree suziewoozie - I've had mis-spelling and mis-pronunciation of my surnames all my life - my maiden name was German and everybody took the p* out of it and bullied me because of it.

Then I married someone with a Russian surname....

suziewoozie Thu 21-Nov-19 11:12:14

Thanks Rowan. I really can’t understand anyone who thinks otherwise.

suziewoozie Thu 21-Nov-19 11:17:58

One final thought (for now) people have questioned my behaviour in RL. In RL if there was one mixed race child in a class and the teacher repeatedly spelled the child’s name incorrectly I know what I’d think especially if she spelled all the other white children’s names correctly.
