It's been around for many years as has ROFL. We use a lot of abbreviations on GN (for example) - just an easy way of typing.

Yes, I use it. I prefer ? but that dosen't work on all devices.

When it's used as a kind of shrug at Fate, as in "The bike broke. Lol" — she'd only had the bike two weeks — then I think it's useful.

I haven't used it much, if ever, but it doesn't bother me if other people do.
