I so much enjoyed hearing about everyone's daily happenings but the thread seems to have withered and died, so I'm reviving it.

Please don't think your day to day tasks sound mundane, they're not to me. smile

Listened to the Archers omnibus in bed. Had porridge and coffee - in bed.
Cleaned kitchen from top to bottom thoroughly, fridge, skirting boards, window sills the lot, whilst listening to Desert Island Discs. ( still miss Kirsty)
Lunch and some i newspaper puzzles with OH.
Long leisurely afternoon bath with Joan Baez.
Tea (dinner) two episodes of The Crown.
Accepted text invitation to Christmas dinner from daughter in law.

Gosh, no one did anything in the last day? grin

Went swimming early then came home to start the first section of a Forensic Archaeology course, one of many courses I have taken free online. It looks good.
Anyone remember the documentary on The Body Farm?

My homecare lady arrived at 4.30, took me to the library and to get vegetables, fish and milk.

Will be having fish, mashed potato and green beans for tea.

That's it really. Hope everyone is well and just having a 'do nothing' day. flowers

BradfordLass72 Sun 17-Nov-19 19:20:58

glammanana Have you tried a TENS machine? Marvellous for back pain. PM me if you want details.

Short visit from one of my lovely homecare ladies who is on her 2nd bout of chemo. She's normally bright and bubbly and is trying her best to remain so but the dark shadows under her eyes and her turban told a different story.

I feel so desperately sorry for her and wonder why an old dolt like me soldiers on to (almost) 73, when she, with 2 teenage girls to support, gets cancer. One day we;ll cure it without this barbaric treatment.

Otherwise a quiet day - got the laundry out, dried, folded and put away as it was sunny and breezy.

Took dolmas f (gift from my Kurdish friends) rom the freezer and had them with salad and ate them while listening to 'Dust to Dust' which features two incredibly arrogant and snobbish protagonsts and makes me wonder if author Margaret Duffy, is also of the same mindset.

My day sounds like GrannySomerset's. Church this morning, lovely service and great hymns, actually a bit emotional.
Home and emptied the airing cupboard, before a soup and crusty bread lunch.
Also watched the film, "From Here to Eternity". DH couldn't believe that I hadn't seen it. Had a coffee midway through, with a couple of coconut pyramids, that I made yesterday, and did some more knitting, the sleeves, and now I am almost at the decreasing stage.
Made a Cauliflower. Macaroni Cheese for supper, which we will be having any minute now.

The third series of The Crown has arrived and I've had to stop myself binge watching or I won't have anything left to watch! So far so good. The actor playing Harold Wilson is brilliant.

Oldandverygrey Sun 17-Nov-19 17:45:15

Granny - I also went to Church today and saw the black/white film on BBC2 - From Here to Eternity, actually thought it was quite good, now watching England play (football match) and keeping my fingers crossed.

GrannySomerset Sun 17-Nov-19 17:42:41

Idle day to date. Church this morning, poor black and white film on BBC2 this afternoon and nothing we want to see later either. Must get on with the next Book Group book instead then, though DH can no longer read for long and gets restive if my attention is elsewhere for long.

Maybe it’s a regional difference Maw??

MawB Sun 17-Nov-19 14:05:18

We’ve also started a survey. If you say hello as you pass a fellow walker they invariably reply hello. If you say good morning they respond with a good morning! Not quite every time
Sadly not my experience- I walk Hattie round the block around 10 each evening and never seem to get my greeting right when I meet other friendly village people.
I say “Hello” they say “Good evening” , I say “Good evening” they (possibly on their way home from the village pub) will often reply “Good night” grin

Sad news today..I had to accept a month`s notice from one of my lovely carers. She has got more responsiblity in her other job.

I hate looking for new carers......

PamelaJ1 Sun 17-Nov-19 13:27:17

DH brought me breakfast in bed.
It was a fabulous morning so we went for a walk. It was all misty and the scenery and birds were fabulous.
I always find it fascinating when I overhear snatches of conversation.
Today it was:
Well she’s always had fat legs.
Other people just piss me off.
Where is the horse?

We’ve also stated a survey. If you say hello as you pass a fellow walker they invariably reply hello. If you say good morning they respond with a good morning! Not quite every time but almost!

BL72 Isn't it wonderful when you can spend one to one time with your ACs I love mine turning up unexpectedly and staying for a couple of hours.
We have had a visit from our GGS(18mths) whilst his mummy went to work and his daddy my DGS2 had to travel to Manchester for an exam so one very spoilt little boy went back home.
Went off to Drs yesterday to see what can be done about constant back pain and prescribed new tablets, lets see if any relief is forthcoming I do hope so.
We are out for lunch today so tonight we shall dine on homemade soup and crusty bread nice and warming on these chilly nights, extra soup to be sent next door to my neighbour who needs a wee bit of tlc since he lost his wife a few months ago.

After chemo on Friday we went out for brunch yesterday with DD who had come for the weekend to come to the hospital with me. Today we are going out for lunch so very little cooking needs to be done!

Callistemon Sun 17-Nov-19 10:30:04

Oh! I haven't been near the shopping centre for years, I go to TK Maxx at Patchway instead!

Marmight Sun 17-Nov-19 10:23:43

No although the hotel overlooks it! I was outside TKMaax blush

Callistemon Sun 17-Nov-19 09:47:49

Were you sitting in The Bearpit, Marmight?

Marmight Sun 17-Nov-19 07:36:21

To Bristol yesterday with 2 DD, 2 SiL & 4 GC. Checked into the Holiday Inn then walked our socks off - 17,000 steps apparently! Then after an early dinner we saw The Lion King. My treat - an early Christmas alternative to a pantomime. We all loved it, even the SiL, but why oh why do people chat, rustle and crunch all the time? The not so small child behind us had her feet on the back of DDs seat, they all talked, loudly, throughout the performance and the mother seated behind me dropped sticky popcorn all over the jumper I’d left on my seat during the interval. I assume they behave like that at home when watching the TV! Unbelievable. Being a country girl, I don't get out much (!) but what struck me after a day in the City was how many women smoke. All puffing away as they went about their business. I sat for a while in the city centre surrounded by smokers and the nearby bin was overflowing with stubs. I was quite shocked. Not pleasant to see or smell. So thats me. Back to the sights & smells of the countryside until the next time!

MiniMoon Sun 17-Nov-19 03:47:20

DH and I went out for the day.
We had a drive into the countryside, all around the places he knew when growing up.
We had lunch at a hotel run by a relative of mine. I haven't seen her since we left school, and just missed her today as she'd gone out shopping.
Left my contact details with the girl waiting tables, so I'll wait and see if she makes contact.
Had a look round the local Dobbies garden centre, and home again by 4pm.
Finished off my crochet project and watched tv before bed.
Awake at 02:50 with horrible acid reflux, so am now wide awake!
It's a good job it's Sunday tomorrow, I needn't get up early.

Luckygirl Sat 16-Nov-19 22:01:47

Concert was wonderful - a real lift to the spirits. smile

BBbevan Sat 16-Nov-19 19:05:19

Well another busy day. Since the weather was good we did a lot of gardening. Leaves yet to be swept up. But that can wait until tomorrow. Sitting now in a warm and cosy room, waiting for Strictly.

Urmstongran Sat 16-Nov-19 17:18:26

And yours too lemongrove in a different way. Ooh a slice of homemade cake! I never bake.

lemongrove Sat 16-Nov-19 16:56:38

What a lovely day Urmston ?

Had DGS overnight last night, so I spent most of today baking with him, we made a huge victoria sponge cake and a lot of small choccy buns.Just had a big slice of it with a cuppa, there goes the waistline.
When not baking or clearing up I helped him with his spellings and reading before he settled down to play an ipad game ( giving me a well earned rest.)
He will be collected soon, and DH says he will cook us a steak meal this evening, so it will be feet up and catching up with
Brittania on tv.

Urmstongran Sat 16-Nov-19 14:04:20

It’s a gorgeous sunny day here in Malaga. Well it’s hot on our little south facing balcony! We’ve both got our books and have applied sunscreen. The front door is an entirely different scenario! It’s bitterly cold. Brr! Shut that door as Larry Grayson used to say.

There must be over 30 white sail boats competing in a regatta on the very blue Mediterranean - very pretty to watch and the wind will be ideal for racing I imagine.

Tonight we are going out to a bar we’ve not been to before and then onto a curry place that has come highly recommended.

I’ve just knocked on at my friend and neighbour’s to ask if she’d like to join us. She’s 84y, lives on her own permanently out here in Spain. She was delighted to be asked so we will all stroll out together at 7pm and get a taxi back up home.

Luckygirl Sat 16-Nov-19 13:02:09

Sounds like a wonderful visit!

I am dashing about preparing music and clothes for a concert I am singing in tonight - and rehearsing all afternoon - busy day. I am always wiped out when I get back.

DD2 is visiting OH for me as I will not have time. He always needs to open his bowels as soon as she arrives - we send her in when he is blocked up!! smile

BradfordLass72 Sat 16-Nov-19 07:12:41

Yesterday was The Day from Hell during which absolutely every damned thing went wrong and I got progressively more anxious and irritated. We'll draw a veil......

Today was quite a different kettle of haddock.

My son came to spend the day with me and got the smoker out to make me a kilo of smoked cheese. Divine.

We had begun with a breakfast: fresh strawberries, yoghurt and croissants and about 2pm had bacon-wrapped roast chicken with multiple vegetables.

I rarely ask him what he wants as dessert because he gives the same answer - so crumble it was.
This time Mixed Berry - boysenberries, strawberries and apple.

In between eating, smile we discussed why parents are ruled by their children from toddler upwards; the future of AI and will it really make humans redundant (75 million predicted jobs losses worldwide); was it really wise to bring a child into a world like ours - and much more.

As usual he washed up.
As usual I felt he hadn't been here long enough.
As usual I was super-grateful that he visits so often and genuinely enjoys being here rather than doing it as an occasional duty.

So I shall go to bed happy tonight grin moon
