Would it be considered rude of me to ask how old we are? I’m surprised for example to read if a poster is a great grandmother or is ‘going out to work now’.

I’m 65y.

I think that would be possible, anniezzz. ?
An Excel spreadsheet would sort the ages and a graph could be made from the data. Mmmmmm, it's a few years since I've done it, but I think it can be done, as long as no-one objects!
I may put my thinking cap on.

66. :-) Would love to see a graph/profile of membership. I've exceeded the age at which my parents died and am inspired by those who remain bright and lively into their 70s and 80s. Hope I get there too and similarly full of life.

Juliette I have an aunt born in Sept 1946, I’ve always thought the same.

I am 59 years and 32 weeks, physically I feel about 78 but in my head I am about 18 to 25.

My eldest DGC is 17 already yikes.

Urmstongran thank you. I am lucky that I have had a large family and hopefully will see the new little ones next year. But there are so many very young women suffering who wont be able to see their children grow up.

My daughter has just told me I look like my dad

with a wig on Grannyboots1?
?

Sorry, didn’t mean to be rude there but I just couldn’t resist!

Grannyboots1 Wed 13-Nov-19 15:01:35

69 My daughter has just told me I look like my dad who is 90. Oh dear. Love love this post.

gulligranny Wed 13-Nov-19 14:42:51

74 last month, but I don't know when I'm likely to become an adult.

Urmstongran Wed 13-Nov-19 14:41:39

You obviously have a joy of life Dancingmadnanna - wonderful!

How many of us like me have mentally ‘buddied up’ with some posters now?

For example, I know Pantglas has a second home in Spain and she’s 62y (I thought you’d be older for that reason - silly but there you go!)

Marydoll I know you are a retired teacher and for some reason (again just my guess) I thought you were a tad older but you are 64y so you’re younger than me too.

I’m just glad that although 65y like me Beechnut is a DAY older than me. Hurrah!!

I’ve loved reading this thread. Thank you very much to you all for joining in.

thanks Urmston. I don't feel ready to go yet as I have many interests and people are generally kind.

In my 70s.

GrandmasueUK Wed 13-Nov-19 14:15:10

I'm late to the party again! I'm 65 (just) which sounds a lot older than 64. In my mind, I'm a lot younger but health issues mean my body, unfortunately, seems to be ageing rapidly! I retired seven years ago and started my own business, which means I can be found working most days. I love being able to choose my working hours and whether or not to get dressed first! grin

Be careful what you wish for kitty

I was 73 last September, born in 1946 one of the first year of the baby boomers. Lots of girls in my year at school had September birthdays. I think all our dads must have been de-mobbed in time for Christmas 1945.

kittylester Wed 13-Nov-19 13:34:30

I am envy of people with great grand children.

Dancingmadnanna Wed 13-Nov-19 13:08:32

First time I have posted but I’ve been reading Gransnet for a long time and love it. I am 80 but feel over 100 when I first get out of bed. My son gave me an Echo Plus for my birthday and as soon as I play music on it and dance round the kitchen I feel fine for the day and about 28 in my head although my fibromyalgia complains after a few rock and roll dances . I have twelve great grandchildren although I only had two children so I don’t know why I have been so blessed but I certainly feel that I am. I am loving this thread .

Urmstongran Wed 13-Nov-19 11:40:26

Congratulations about the impeding arrival of another great grandchild Daisyboots but saddened to hear of your health prognosis.

Daisyboots Wed 13-Nov-19 11:15:05

I am 75 and until January this year thought it quite possible that I would live until the age of 97 like my darling Mum did. But it's not to be.
You mentioned greatgrandchildren in your opening post and I have seven and two more due next year.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 13-Nov-19 09:41:13

I am 62, but feel 42 until I see myself in a photo!!!!!

Alygran Wed 13-Nov-19 09:07:55

I’m 64 and have been retired 6 years. Life is not what I expected it to be but mostly busy with volunteering, family and friends.

Urmstongran Wed 13-Nov-19 08:47:24

Oops!!

Sorry GrandmaKT I read your post as though it was about you - not your aunt!

Alexa I proclaim you as our Queen Alexa of GN ?

May your reign over us be a long and happy one with several more years ahead of you to enjoy the witch hazel buds and blossoms! x

Urmstongran Wed 13-Nov-19 08:41:49

Morning everyone! It seems we have a tie now for our Queen. It’s been superb to enjoy all your posts.

So, of you two ladies Alexa and GrandmaKT which one of you is the eldest?

Sorry (in a good way!) Violetham to remove the crown from your head - you wore it for a day anyway!

? Shout out to DiddyDi - I agree Gonegirl so many newbies (to us) on here - where have you all been? Playing ‘Games’ and having fun I expect!

Seems you’re right about those Mancunian genes King Rufus! However I was born in Hampshire and mum was a Blackpool lass and dad was from Ludlow in Shropshire - my name just reflects the area I live.

What a lovely thread this is. I'm 66 in age but still love listening to my 70's rock music, loudly !!
I have the usual aches and pains that come with age and have recently been diagnosed with something a little more serious but in the great scheme of things and compared with some I'm doing ok.

sf101 Wed 13-Nov-19 08:14:20

I am 63 in Jan, still don't feel old enough to be a grown-up!

I am lucky that my private pension allowed me to retire a couple of months ago - just - have to wait to 66 for the state one.

DanniRae Wed 13-Nov-19 07:46:35

I am 71. I hated turning 70 and since then my health seems have taken a nose dive. My brain is ok but I feel unsteady on my feet and have enormous trouble rising from low armchairs and using stairs............so I am waiting to go on a 'Strength and Balance Course' (a new course designed by Lambeth and Southwark Councils).
However, I am assured that I don't look 71 - even my critical eldest daughter agrees with this - so that's something to be happy about and I am a new grandma and totally in love with my amazing (of course) grandson!! grin

freesia Tue 12-Nov-19 20:02:31

I have just turned 60, and recently retired (full on all consuming job). missing it a little but lovely to have more time for the family.

DinkyDi Tue 12-Nov-19 19:45:22

Hello Everyone! Hope I'm not too late to join this thread but I'm new to posting, having followed you with enthusiasm for a while.

I'm 71 and having been born in 1948 I feel I've had the best of so many things in my life: the NHS just after I was born, good schools, the Pill, the plentiful choice of jobs in the 60s and 70s, further education opportunities in the 80s and 90s and I even got my pension at 60 before the wall came down on all the WASPIs. I'm very grateful for all of that.

And now I've found Gransnet and can't tell you how much I get from reading all your wonderful advice and sharing your wisdom and humour. smile thanks
