Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark but its looking wet outside here in Brackley .
Today is a quiet day, but the building and my flat is being checked out for asbestos , so have to vacate flat whilst they do it.
There is also a new fire alarm system being installed in all flats.

Good morning from dull and damp North Yorkshire.
First load of washing on. It will have to go in the dryer I think. Dentist this morning then catching up with friends this afternoon.
We won the pub quiz last night and got all the questions right! We were joined by a younger relative of one of the team who was great on the music and TV questions.
Hope you get your meds Marydoll. Thinking of Gilly and hoping for better news.
Wishing you all a good day.

Hope you yet your meds Mary. It is very stressful - I was trying to track down needles last week for DH - apparently the supplier had run out!

dragonfly46 Mon 04-Nov-19 08:34:38

Happy Birthday Yiayia

Goodmorning Mick and all x

I can confirm Sar53 it is bright and sunny in our part of the world! As you were away at the weekend you missed the "Big Beach Bang" (very large firework display) on Saturday and all the traffic chaos it brings!!

I shall be pickling my onions this morning before going to the gym and then visiting our young baby GS for lots of cuddles.

Thinking of the gillybobs, feel so helpless, wish I could just give her a huge hug flowers

Grammaretto Mon 04-Nov-19 08:46:46

On the hunt for meds and needles theme: I had to plead with the late night pharmacy on Saturday for more needles for FiL diabetes. Anyone overhearing would have thought I was an addict. Got them eventually after the Pharmacist phoned NHS24 to confirm. I suppose I am glad that they are careful but what a palava!
I hope you find your elusive meds Marydoll soon.

Good morning from the NE coast . Long post alert !

Well Monday has come around again. It used to be my worst day of the week but they are all exactly the same now.

Still no change in DH. He is still in the induced coma, heavily sedated with what seems like a million drugs pumping into him to keep him alive. One drug for this, another for that and another to counteract the effects of the first one etc. It’s like a vicious circle .

I await the visit of the microbiologist today who will no doubt come up with yet another cocktail of antibiotics .

I sat up until the early hours catching up on DH’s “Life Support” diary which is designed to help fill in the blanks for those patients who do eventually recover and need to understand what they have been through. Very few have any real memory of what has happened in the missing days/weeks/months but almost all patients suffer from some degree of PTSD . Apparently these diaries help make sense of things .

Anyway to answer a few questions from yesterday’s thread.

My dad and I have never had a close relationship. I was terrified of him as a child and have written about this in the past. He was always a control freak and his word was final. Although he was never violent towards my mum he was absolutely THE BOSS. My mum being the gentle lady she was would never question his word. He was a rubbish grandfather to my children although he would buy them a pair of shoes he didn’t want the hassle of his house being messed up or he and my mum having to give up their time to babysit. I made my bed and I jolly well lay in it !

When my mum became seriously ill he did mellow quite a bit and since she died and his own health has deteriorated (he is very unsteady) he has been forced to soften as he is quite reliant on me taking him shopping, hospital appointments etc.

The reasons I did not want him to come to the hospital are purely selfish on my behalf as ;

a) he brings me no comfort at all , coming out with such gems as “calm down” which is exactly what he would have said to my mum.
b) I cannot forget the man he was (my problem I know)
c) I have the added worry of either having to leave my DH to take him home or worrying about him walking to/from the bus stop (as I said he is very unsteady on his feet).

With regards to the business and without boring you all with the details, it is in a very specialised field of electrical engineering and taking someone on to run the place would be impossible as it would take months of training for them to understand what it is we do. The lads we have left have been with us for many years and there is no way I could get someone “off the shelf “ to just walk in and take the reins .

The bank don’t give a monkeys toot how much into overdraft I go (they wont refuse any direct debits or payments for a while yet) as they have the entire debt secured on mine and DH’s home. They cannot lose . My problem is that if/when I am forced to sell the winner will take all . When you are in a deep hole shouldn’t you stop digging?

Anyway there it is in a rather large nutshell. A right piece of cr*p isn’t it?

Never mind . I’m just about ready to leave for the hospital again, it’s really hard to get parked on weekday mornings and don’t get me started on the cost.

Hoping I can share some better news soon and thank you all again for the continued messages, good wishes and prayers I truly appreciate each and every one .

I hope GrannyGravy’s baby grandson is getting better and will be out of hospital soon (apologies if he already is I’m like a push-me pull-you at the moment) . To others who are suffering ill health or feeling down I wish you lots of sunshine sunshine and to those enjoying good times, trips and holidays long may they continue.

Love Gilly xx

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. I was awake at some ridiculous hour so I am late coming round. It’s my birthday today and the weather is dreary. We are going out to an Italian restaurant for dinner this evening and I am looking forward to it.
Gilly I am so sorry for your plight and wish I could help. It’s very brave of you to let us into your life at the moment. Much love to you?.

moggie Mon 04-Nov-19 09:06:15

Good morning Mick & all from damp& grey Nottingham. Shopping with DH for a few new things for kitchen & decide on blinds, there is too much choice.
Kalu I noticed the same at B&Q very little choice in Dulux paint. They have Valspar which we found just as good &great choice.

Pantglas2 Mon 04-Nov-19 09:10:45

Thanks for the background gillybob and you’ve summed it up perfectly- a right piece of crap it is!

Not a lot you can do about your dad except lean on sister to pull her weight and hopefully the lads at work will do whatever they can to keep the boat afloat as it were, after all they’re in it as well!

Here’s hoping for improvement today x

Yiayia4 Mon 04-Nov-19 09:12:22

Happy Birthday Greyduster snap! my birthday also.

Nannytopsy Mon 04-Nov-19 09:19:45

Morning Mick, morning all!
Wish we were in the sun with Urmstongran & Pantglas! While I was working, we always had at least one holiday booked but currently our only outing is one night in a Leicester Travelodge! Must do something about that!
Husband has gone for his diabetes check so I had better get up and continue the painting. It was somewhat delayed by watching four rugby matches over the weekend but at least Leicester won! Our new shed arrives today so lots of excitement ?.
As others have said, love to Gilly and wish we could help.
☀️ To everyone with coughs, colds, aches and pains.

Morning Michael, Annie, and all.
It's bright and sunny here in Berks, but damp underfoot, so must have rained sometime.
I'm not sure if my cleaner is coming later, as her little one's school, has an inset day. Immediately after half term. Nice timing! I did say she could bring her daughter, but not to bother if it wasn't convenient.
Not much planned for today, although I had started a bit of cupboard clearance, but am not making much progress.
Gillybob, sorry to hear that there is still no good news for you, but re the parking, surely the hospital will give you a permit? Have you asked?
Also as NanKate has said, there are many agencies that may be able to help, if and when you have the time and the strength to research. Love and prayers to you both.
Have a good day one and all.

MawB Mon 04-Nov-19 10:21:21

Good morning all and a special gentle hug to Gillybob. This torture is not easing is it, but hang on in there.
As for parking, our hospital has a weekly pass which does save some money generally from Day 3 (it also not infrequently has resulted in a discharge round about Day2- so fingers crossed)
The Royal Free gave me a free parking permit while DH was in Transplant and post- operative, but there were never any spaces in their far too small car park. A kind gesture though.
Sometimes those apparently trivial things can be the last straw.
I shuddered at your father interfering, you did not need that. I would respectfully suggest you tell your sister in no uncertain terms, dog, job or not, that she has the responsibility for him from now on.
The rain has stopped and it is a gloriously sunny Autumn day but I will be out there doing a rain dance if it keeps the fireworks at bay this evening ?sad
Wishing you all a pleasant day.

Nannytopsy, I too watched four rugby matches over the weekend and Northampton Saints won!

Bellanonna Mon 04-Nov-19 10:35:44

gilly I don’t usually read the daily thread, but I just have and I’ve learnt about your poor husband. I can’t begin to imagine how all this must be for you. What a hell,of a lot you are struggling with..
I wonder if there is anyone in your area on here who might be able to offer some actual support even if it was just a cup of tea and a sympathetic ear? Hopefully someone might already have PMd you. I certainly would if I was anywhere near.
Courage, dear gilly, and fingers crossed for some signs of improvement very soon. ???
