How many people will own up to being nasty under the cloak of anonymity ?
Are you just as pleasant and polite on here as I am sure you are in real life ?

M0nica Sun 03-Nov-19 16:33:41

I am no different on Gransnet than I am in real life. Mostly I try to understand and conciliate, but now and again I get snippy.

Nonnie Sun 03-Nov-19 10:58:31

GA I think I met you in Brum once, maybe it was someone else. I also talk to my close friends and family about GN. I think some of the younger ones think all we talk about is our GC though! I have passed on some things I have learned here which they have found helpful.

grannyactivist Sat 02-Nov-19 23:41:35

My family and friends all know who I am on GN and I have met grans from Scotland, the North West and the South West, where I live. So, I am far from anonymous, but even if I weren’t I’d like to think that my speech and actions are congruent across all areas of my life.

I didn't say quite what I meant. What I meant was I know GG54 can be rude but she is interesting and often amusing. I think its a shame she has left.

Tangerine Sat 02-Nov-19 21:49:18

I think GG54 has left.

annep1 Sat 02-Nov-19 21:46:23

Thank you MawB. I thought it might be GG54. She can be very rude at times to put it mildly. She has said unkind things to me about Northern Ireland. I don't think she realises and sometimes she can't be excused but she does add something interesting to GN. I often find myself thinking I wonder what Gabriella will say about this. I think it's good to hear different viewpoints. GN would be very boring if everyone thought the same way. Even in RL we don't always agree with our friends.

PamelaJ1 Sat 02-Nov-19 20:25:08

The last! Should have been a ?
See what I mean!

PamelaJ1 Sat 02-Nov-19 20:23:39

I do try not to be unpleasant on GN but I think as someone up thread said sometimes posts come over in quite a different way to the spoken word.
I do tend to be a bit sarcastic in RL but I can judge better whether the person is ‘getting it or not.’ I think sometimes on rereading a post I am aware that my phraseology is wrong. I that it can be a mistake to respond too quickly to what maybe a criticism but, actually, may not be.
It’s not what you say but the way that you say it!

Gonegirl Sat 02-Nov-19 16:25:38

?

Nonnie Sat 02-Nov-19 16:21:48

I knew what you meant Gone. PS, neither to I, sometimes I am quite blunt, but always polite smile

Gonegirl Sat 02-Nov-19 13:42:49

I obviously meant 'aspersions'. Can't reply anymore cos I've forgotten the lot of it.

PS Making "veiled comments" is something I definitely don't do. grin

Gonegirl Sat 02-Nov-19 13:40:15

Oh I'm sorry Nonnie. This thread totally confuddled me.

Beckett Sat 02-Nov-19 13:29:33

[Hmm] Am I being cynical if I think GabriellaG will be back under a different name?

MawB Sat 02-Nov-19 13:01:44

www.gransnet.com/forums/health/1268471-I-m-going-to-have-a-nose-job-that-I-don-t-really-want
It was GabriellaG on this thread

annep1 Sat 02-Nov-19 12:57:42

I wonder who left.

Maggiemaybe Sat 02-Nov-19 12:27:11

As I said, I don't think the OP intended this thread to be goady, but it certainly headed that way pretty quickly. I don't do veiled comments. Or second guess what other people's thoughts are. Or correct typos (I do think that's rude, but that's just my opinion).

So I'm off. The rugby was disappointing, I need to sort my ITV7 out now.

Nonnie Sat 02-Nov-19 11:25:23

Gonegirl Fri 01-Nov-19 18:04:41 now why would you think that? I agreed with you! Do you think that because you make 'veiled comments'? However, if the cap fits ........

Whatever 'adpersions' are I haven't cast any! Without going back to check didn't you say something about 'same old'? To whom were you referring?

Gemini1789 Fri 01-Nov-19 18:36:37 yes, I still think that and have been on here a long time. I used to ignore it but now, if it is directed at me, I respond. It does appear that some are prepared to hand it out but not take it when it comes back. You will, over time, notice that sometimes when you respond politely with a valid point the poster has no answer so tries to make themselves a 'victim'. You will see through it too.

When I first came on GN I thought there was a lot of bullying but when I mentioned it I got a lot of comments like 'if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen'. I nearly did and still go away for a while sometimes.

annep1 Fri 01-Nov-19 19:31:41 me too. But never rude.

I didn't think the OP was being 'goady' at all. I suppose we interpret posts according to our own thoughts and then we attribute them others.

Gonegirl Sat 02-Nov-19 09:36:17

Well, I think this was an extremely ill judged thread, especially in light of one poster having, in the last few days, voluntarily left Gransnet because of her not too pleasant posts.

Yes. Boredom. hmm

annep1 Sat 02-Nov-19 09:19:29

Nothing wrong with your approach Gemini.

Maggiemaybe Sat 02-Nov-19 09:01:25

Well, good luck with your knitting, and your thread. You won’t get any entertaining Mrs Angry posts from me. I’ve got rugby to watch. smile

Gemini1789 Sat 02-Nov-19 08:35:53

That was to Maggiemaybe

Gemini1789 Sat 02-Nov-19 08:34:29

I don’t think we are on the same wavelength .
I was just bored not ‘ goady ‘ . Yesterday I spend a long time knitting and then my right thumb gave up - arthritis I think - and so I started reading lots of threads on here.
I don’t think I have the right approach for thread starting . P.S. my thumb is better but still not a good idea to knit today.

Hetty58 Sat 02-Nov-19 08:32:47

I'm not pleasant and polite in real life either! I tend to speak the truth and point out the obvious. People (especially on here, quite plainly) often need a reality check!

Maggiemaybe Sat 02-Nov-19 08:27:11

I had actually thought the thread was unintentionally goady.

Now I’m wondering.

Gemini1789 Sat 02-Nov-19 08:17:37

Ok Maggiemaybe - by ‘goady’ do you mean stirring up trouble ? That wasn’t my intention. What kind of threads do you like then ? Why not start one ?
I started this one after reading some ( to me ) rude comments on a thread and I wondered like I always do if I am alone in thinking that way.
On the positive side I’ve heard you have been really good this year. I will bring you a huge ( virtual ) present . What would you like ? FC ?
