How romantic are we!

We got two cards in the morning post addressed to both of us and wondered who on earth was sending Christmas cards so early.
Opened them, they were wedding anniversary cards. We had to go and check what date our wedding was and which anniversary it was.
Obviously a memorable occasion!
Is anyone else like us?

We dont forget ours, but we dont mark it in any way either. Guess we might for our 25th next year, but just for us, not a party ir amything.

NannyG123 Thu 31-Oct-19 09:49:04

Don't really celebrate our anniversary, only special ones ie25th, we had plans for out 40th to go to Las Vegas, but then found out my daughter was going to have her first
Very longed for baby. Around the time of our 40th,so all plans put on hold. He was born the day before our 40th anniversary. So glad I wasn't away,as I went to hospital for a cuddle, soon after he was born.

Didn't choose the date specially but the venue offered us 17/7/71. Can't forget that, although DH often can't work out how long it's been.

Thanks for all your comments. Interesting reading all the different ways of thinking.

Aggie the fold up bike with small wheels is much easier to handle than my roadbike and less strain on my back - handles positioned differently. And folds into the boot. I had almost given up cycling.

Happy anniversary annep1. Enjoy your new bike.

Our anniversary is the same day as our son's..........with a four year gap of course . I usually get a bunch of flowers from my husband but no-one else is bothered much.

aggie Thu 31-Oct-19 07:48:43

It’s not that I am forgetful normally , but I never could remember the date of our wedding ! Still have to work out if it was the 7th or the 8th of Oct
I love the idea of the fold up bikes Annep1 I used to love cycling on the towpath that runs along the county boundary here

We lived together (happily) for 39 years and then got married 5 years ago for financial and legal reasons.
We received an Anniversary Card from my cousin, which was our only reminder of the date of our wedding.
However, we always go out for supper to celebrate the day we met (12th December) - so this year will be the 44th celebratory meal!

MamaCaz Thu 31-Oct-19 07:21:33

Like someone above I discovered on our first anniversary that DH wasn't one for buying cards, much less gifts. I was disappointed but let it go, and never got him another after that.

One year, there was a similar incident to the OPs - a card came in the post and we had no idea what it was until we opened it. At least my parents had remembered that it was not only our anniversary, but our 10th!

Things have improved slightly since our 25th, for some unknown reason (we have been married 38 now). It's no longer unknown for him to comment that our anniversary is that week, or similar, and he has even given me a card a couple of times since then. confused

My DH isn’t romantic and would cheerfully not bother with birthdays and anniversaries but he knows they mean something to me so he makes the effort with cards. We tend not to bother with actual presents but buy what we want when we want rather than wait for a special day.

BradfordLass72 Thu 31-Oct-19 01:39:15

I'm romantic, my DH was not.

The first year after we married, I gave him a Valentine's Day card with a sweet but not sloppy sentiment inside.

He gave me nothing but I didn't mind that too much as he was normally, quite generous and often brought me little gifts for no reason.

But when I found the Valentin's Day card in the bin the next day, I was hurt and asked him why he'd thrown in away.
'Because Valentine's Day was yesteday,' he said, puzzled by my question and my upset.

No, definitely no romantci my DH.

We married on the first day of December exactly a week after DHs birthday so he had no excuse to forget. We never went overboard with celebrations, apart from our 25th. On what would have been our 40th I bought myself a rather expensive painting in lieu of the ruby which I might (or might not) have received! It would have been our 46th this year.

callgirl1 Wed 30-Oct-19 21:40:00

My husband never forgot our anniversary (it would have been 56 this year), but he never sent me a card, did buy me flowers on our 25th though. I bought him a card and a present for our 1st anniversary, waited all day for him to mention it, but no, so gave him the card and pressie. He said he knew what day it was but didn`t think it need a present or card! So I never bought him another.

lemongrove Wed 30-Oct-19 21:38:29

We always remember our anniversary and one friend sends a card, as does our DD.
We don’t give each other cards now though, but buy ourselves a lovely bouquet and go out for the day or at least for a meal.

annep1 Wed 30-Oct-19 20:23:03

Oh how nice Ninathenana. Still romantic after all those years.
I must say though I might not have got a card but he bought us both new foldup bikes yesterday as I had always wanted to cycle the Lagan towpath.

ninathenana Wed 30-Oct-19 17:44:50

Our anniversary is the day before DH's birthday. I said to him at the time that he wouldn't be able to forget it. We give each other cards and he usually buys me flowers even after 44 yrs.
My mum always gave us an anniversary card. She loved receiving cards and so do I.

Witzend Wed 30-Oct-19 17:41:16

We never forget ours, but it's an easy date to remember.

Earlier this year we attended a young relative's wedding on a day that happened to coincide with our 45th, so it was
???and ?? all round.
Evidently an auspicious date to choose!

annep1 Wed 30-Oct-19 17:33:59

We seem to be a minority of one. Oh dear! Perhaps we should have picked a memorable date as some of you have.
It doesn't worry me though. If it's not written on the calendar its forgotten.

49 years Ladygracie, congratulations. Special celebration next year ?

Thanks for the greetings.

crazyH Wed 30-Oct-19 17:33:53

How lucky you all are, and congratulations annep and husband. A couple of months before what would have been our Silver WA, my husband dropped the bombshell. He was leaving me for someone else. Don't worry. I'm fine. I'm on my own, but have my family around me. Life is good.

sodapop Wed 30-Oct-19 17:26:59

I always forget our wedding anniversary, my best friend always remembers as does my husband. Not sure what that says about me !!

Sara65 Wed 30-Oct-19 17:26:03

We should remember, it’s the day after our daughter’s birthday, but neither of us ever do!

BBbevan Wed 30-Oct-19 17:24:50

I always send cards, anniversary, birthday, good luck and even Bon voyage. Love getting cards myself so like to spread the love around DH never forgets.I still get an anonymous? Valentine card from him

LadyGracie Wed 30-Oct-19 17:19:32

It will be our 49th anniversary on GE day 12th December hmm

We usually dig out a card from years gone by, I’m a romantic, DH is definitely not.

Thorntrees Wed 30-Oct-19 16:14:43

No excuse to forget ours, we married on New Years Day which 47 years ago happened to be a Saturday.

glammanana Wed 30-Oct-19 16:02:11
