Sorry people I am 46 years of age and have been around in political circles.

I am a mother of a fourteen year old. I have three university degrees and have lived abroad for quite some time

I feel Boris Johnson can't orgainise his way out of a paper bag and all the people I know think the same

that is my milkman, my postman the people at the local shop the people at my local school.

I honestly am not being paid for saying this, but can we all come out and say...the guy needs to go,,,asap

And what your much vaunted “three degrees” have to do with that is anybody’s guess I suspect.hmmhmm
How unfortunate that you do not seem to understand plain speaking without recourse to expletives.

“Save your breath to cool your porridge”

Oh! My Grandma used to say that. I loved my Grandma so much. Not heard that saying for years.

Many thanks for reminding me.

I managed to quote ;-)

MawB. Don't give a sxxt if you understand what I am 'on about or not'.

The landscape of the U.K. and the globe is as follows (and that is the short version...)

Young people are grappling with all sorts of issues, not least the Climate Crisis. Total disrespect of so-called 'democracy' i.e what Boris Johnson and co are doing .

Good luck with having your 'porridge' love. Because if all that is the only thing you are concerned about you sure as shxt don't give a dxxn about future generations.

Painting I have no idea what you are on about and from your ramblings I seriously wonder if you do either.
As we say in Scotland “Save your breath to cool your porridge”

Deeda,
thought you were being quite restrained too.
Thought about asking Boris out on a date, but then decided against it.
Plenty more fish in the sea lol

Hey, Mawb.

I'm in a parallel universe. Thank the Goddess.

Something to do with caring about the future or future generations?

Or listening to your grandkids?

And it has everything to do with degrees, learning, or similar.

Mawb. Join the twenty first century love.

MawB Sat 19-Oct-19 21:51:40

Why on earth would anybody’s grandchildren want to read GN?
And what on earth does that have to do with my comment about degrees?confused
This is like being in a parallel universe.

Deedaa Sat 19-Oct-19 21:45:56

Going back to the original post Boris was kind enough to put a post on my Facebook page yesterday. My answer to him was quite short, involving sexual activity under a rock. DD thought I was being quite restrained.

paintingthetownred Sat 19-Oct-19 21:41:17

Right Maw.
Also I am wondering how many grans or grandads have exposed this thread to the scrutiny of their grandkids.

I have. My child.

Quite prepared to have (and face criticism from them).

Thing is. We all need to.

I wonder what my child's school would make of people insulting others because they have qualifications.

I'm fairly if not cast iron certain that the head of my daughter's school would think it cast iron disgusting.

Difficult enough for young people to make their way in the world without anyone trashing anyone else for learning.

I’ve been out all afternoon but see that Gonegirl is taking exception to my quoted
there are degrees and degrees
Well there are!
A Third is not a First.
A PhD or Masters is not the same as a first degree
A degree from a newly promoted polytechnic is not the same as one from one of the more traditional/established/“Russell” group of universities. Or, indeed from one of the ancient Scottish, English, Welsh or Irish universities and any potential employer knows that. If they were all the same students would not be trying for the “best” university in their chosen field of study in their UCAS applications.
So don’t be so disingenuous.

Wadesnan
Baggs

I have no doubt about my intellectual abilities.
Nor do I have any 'secret doubts.

What I do have very public doubts about is (particularly women, but also men) criticising others for casually mentioning their qualifications.

Are we on gransnet getting to the point where women are supposed to be (and stay) completely stupid?

Is getting qualifications suddenly completely against some societal law?

And love you to bits bag, but the time is LONG GONE in capitals where women have to be or choose to be self-doubting and humble...

Yes, though you are right Boris Johnson orginal subject of this thread could do with shutting himself away in a cupboard and getting himself a decent job.

Conservatives, woman-haters, people who think the only people who can be on here are grandmas or granddads of a certain specified age.

To them. Only two words. Grow up.

Baggs Sat 19-Oct-19 20:20:15

I think it's OK to have secret (or open) doubts about one's intellectual abilities. Certainly nothing to be ashamed of anyway.

A bit of self-doubting humility wouldn't go amiss with some public intellectuals.

WadesNan Sat 19-Oct-19 19:43:07

I think many of us have qualifications, however, as GrandmaJan says we don't feel it necessary or relevant to mention them. I have found that those who have to announce their qualifications, unless in a job interview, have secret doubts about their intellectual abilities

GrandmaJan Sat 19-Oct-19 19:26:10

Sorry paintingthetownred you already had the bully of the week award so I’ll have to wait until next week. I don’t have any problem posters mentioning their qualifications but in the right context of course. I also worked hard for mine and in no way do I feel inferior to you. I haven’t all mentioned mine because they aren’t relevant.

paintingthetownred Sat 19-Oct-19 19:19:47

Granmajan.
Oh dear. Can I award you 'attempted' not 'successful' bully of the week.

I had no intention of making anyone feel inferior.

I wonder why you have a problem about people mentioning academic qualifications.

We worked hard for them.

If you feel inferior because of that, then I'm afraid that's your stuff.

You could have, and still could do the same if you wanted.

And yes, given what a bully you are, your grandkids need to feel ashamed of you too.

Gonegirl Sat 19-Oct-19 18:59:04

I rarely read the whole thread. Until after I've posted. grin

Baggs Sat 19-Oct-19 18:51:32

Can't imagine what you mean, gg ??

I wish to declare myself an RTFT rebel. I often don't RTFT especially if it's a bit long-winded and going nowhere.

Like this one.

The blether is alright though.

GrandmaJan Sat 19-Oct-19 18:50:58

paintingthe townred I pity you children and grandchildren probably ramming 3 degrees down their throats. There was no need to mention it unless you wanted other Gransnetters to feel inferior. My grandchildren are well grounded and adorable thank you so please don’t feel sorry for them

Gonegirl Sat 19-Oct-19 18:46:28

Any language seems to go on Gransnet at the moment * GrandmaJan*.

I learned the RTFT thing from a GN thread quite recently. It originates on Mumsnet.

Gonegirl Sat 19-Oct-19 18:44:54

That's very true Baggs.

And yes, residents of parts of West Scotland are well known for their innocence. Bless.

wink

GrandmaJan Sat 19-Oct-19 18:44:43

Gonegirl I apologise for the mistake. It was a tying error. And why shouldn’t I “jump on other posters” plenty of other posters do. I’m entitled to my opinion as are you. Your language leaves a lot to be desired though and is uncalled fir

paintingthetownred Sat 19-Oct-19 18:44:07

Thanks Gonegirl,
For everyone's information that wasn't the reason I mentioned my qualifications.
And anyone who knows me knows also that I don't believe intelligence has anything to do with wisdom.

However. I do respect people who respect learning from others. And this includes academic qualifications.

I think some posters on here are quite right in saying more or less when it did creep in , in this society and particularly on this thread that academic qualifications are vilified.

Grandmajan. your posts have way more to say about you than they do about me.

I do have to say, I pity your grandkids.

Baggs Sat 19-Oct-19 18:42:19

Info for gonegirl and others who may be interested re the allowing of the word twat on GN: in parts of the west of Scotland twat means exactly the same as twit. Or it did until recently when we began to hear from elsewhere that it meant something else. If my understanding of the crude meaning of twat is correct then I suggest that BJ, however hard he tried, could not be a twat anyway.

Gonegirl Sat 19-Oct-19 18:33:51

And she is 56.

RTFT.

(that means, read the fucking thread)

Gonegirl Sat 19-Oct-19 18:32:12

Perhaps not quite enough GrandmaJan. ie, It may not be a great idea to jump on other posters just because you don't like the content of their original post.
