I have not read beyond the actual title line of the thread. I decided not to. My comment therefore refers only to the use of such language as "twat" . Is this really an adult way to speak?

I have tried very hard to teach my child to be polite and to express herself appropriately without recourse to such words as those often used by ..... let me be honest here..... remainers.

Until such language stops and a reasonable air of debate begins, there will be a lot of anger and bitterness in this country.

Maybe social forums like this need to be the small place where that starts rather than escalating the hurt .

Going back to the sentiments expressed (in a somewhat controversial manner) in the OP, Johnson critics would have revelled in the abundance of trenchant and witty placards savaging him on the People's Vote march yesterday. Hard to pick a favourite, but maybe the one which best aligns with the spirit of the OP is the well-illustrated one which started with the words "It's the willy of the people....."

I agree about Corbyn, Grandad1943, he has come some way to redeeming himself in my eyes in the last few days. He must still unequivocally back a People's Vote though. And stop condoning anti-Semitism...and deselecting dissenting MPs and....stop pursuing ultra left-wing policies at a time when we need national unity...etc.

I truly despair over not just the lack of understanding of how our Parliamentary democracy and legal system work shown here in some quarters (and the press), but also the total unwillingness to try to understand it or to realise how important it is that government and MPs follow it.

I believe that Johnson personally snatched defeat from the Jaws of victory today.

In leaving out of the withdrawal agreement all guarantees on employee rights, workplace safety, and environmental issues etc Johnson ensured that many Labour MPs who may have wished to "Get Brexit Done" could only vote for the Letwin amendment. The above issues will now be examined closely when the Legal Declaration is brought before Parliament as individual Acts for debate.

Jeremy Corbyn carried out good leadership of the Labour Party in the last few days by concentrating on the lack of such guarantees in the Withdrawal Agreement and continuously reminding his MPs that ensuring employee rights and workplace safety were fundamental Labour movement policy.

Johnson required at least twelve Labour MPs to vote with the Government to ensure the vote. However, I believe only six Labour MPs either abstained or voted with the government.

Added to Johnsons above misjudgment on guarantees of rights, was that of his action in throwing his former allies, the Northern Irish DUP under the proverbial bus, ensured he lost their support when he most required it.

However, if anyone sails their so-called friends down the river they should not complain when they come back and throw their canoe at them.

As stated, lack of political judgment by Johnson ensured his defeat was snatched from the jaws of victory.

Unfortunately for Johnson he is dealing with grownups, and Tusk has treated the letter as if the sender was also a grownup and responded accordingly, saying of course the EU will give the request it’s favourable attention.

ACTUALLY, those with the foulest language ARE 1) often the highest educated and 2) upper class.

I have experience of both and can attest to this.

Your credibility, if you ever had any in the first place, goes out of the window when you resort to the kind of language used in your post but coming from someone who feels 3 degrees and having lived abroad awards her the necessary validity, I think it's an indication of the sort of person she is.

You are right MawB in your 21:20:49 post when you imply that there is much prejudice in the way employers view the 'new' universities. What these people don't realise is that the degrees awarded by all universities are subject to external scrutiny and moderation by other institutions so that standards are maintained across the sector.

Where for example, a Russell group academic is the external examiner for a 'new' university, it is not in the interests of anyone, least of all the Russell group university, to condone so-called grade inflation. Where the Russell group students benefit is in what I would call the 'cultural capital' they confer, the indefinable benefits of being part of an elite group at an elite university. This is, of course, not the same thing as a 'better' degree.

When I worked in the sector, I was able to see how the prejudices of employers were lifted when they realised the sort of odds which many students at 'new' universities had to overcome, and just how much they had to offer.
