Is there anything you wouldn't wear-for any reason?

I'll give you my example.

I recently spotted a lovely, cosy padded jacket in a gorgeous purple velvet. They had my size. Should I or shouldn't I? Could I justify adding it to my wardrobe? Where would I wear it? These thoughts rushed through my head but I dismissed them all. I loved the colour, it was warm and super cosy. Its felt divine. I took out my bank card, went to complete the purchase.

Then the thought hit me. If I wore this jacket, (I'm fairly well endowed in the bosom department by the way) I would look like a blueberry on legs. So I didn't buy the jacket.

I would never, ever wear a mini skirt/short dress. I have the most horrendous legs, they are fat and have no shape. My legs are so ugly that when I was in my early 20's my dad would tease me and say Agecroft colliery had been on the phone and they wanted their it props back! Get past my knees and they look fine smile

Anything with a belt on.

Joggy bottoms...they only look good on teenagers
Polo neck jumpers
Flat lace up old lady shoes

I wish I could wear etc etc when observing what is available. Age,not stature, dictates where I would see myself mutton dressed as lamb.

There are quite a lot of things which I won't wear. I'm also short and top heavy which requires careful thought as to what suits.
Asymmetrical or handkerchief hemlines, crop-tops or trousers, gypsy blouses and tiered skirts, cold shoulders, bomber jackets, basically anything which makes me look like an old hippy.
Remember those short denim jackets which were all the rage in the 70s and regularly come back into fashion? We so aspired to them in our teens but I wouldn't wear one now. Very long flowing scarves which I'd be afraid of getting caught in a door and strangling myself - though they look so elegant on tall ladies.
I'd never wear a cape of any tkind - I've read that you can be attacked and held down by the cape - so they're a definite no-no.

Sleeveless. My arms are quite chunky at the top, probably due to the campanology I have done over the years!

Like many people, I would never wear real fur. Animal printed fabrics bother me too - even fake snakeskin or crocodile yuk! I know they're fashionable but they're not for me!

I wear what I love. I have got rid of anything I bought that was a mistake. I rarely wear black. I love colour. I really don’t like black, but I do wear sleeveless in the Summer because it’s cooler and I’m more comfortable (what does it matter what another person might think of my arms?). I no longer wear anything too plunging. A little cleavage is fine, but a little modesty is best as I have got older - the same applies with short skirts IMO.

High heels. Sleeveless tops/dresses. And hot pants!!!?

sue01 Thu 17-Oct-19 11:22:21

Beige.

BusterTank Thu 17-Oct-19 11:20:59

I would never where anything to show my legs . I don't like looking at my thread veins , so why would any one else . Long dresses or trousers for me .

gillyknits Thu 17-Oct-19 11:18:45

Skirts (except ones down to my ankle!)
Culottes. Sorry, but have yet to see anyone look good in them.
Short sleeves. Bingo wings flapping in the breeze don’t appeal to me! ?

Margs Thu 17-Oct-19 11:09:08

Never leggings! Thin people look like Max Wall impersonators and fat people look like they've got black pudding for legs. Appalling things.

SJS1 Thu 17-Oct-19 11:07:30

absolutely no leggings

Annaram1 Thu 17-Oct-19 11:05:47

Leggings. People with thin legs look like birds. People with fat legs look disgusting.
Jeans with split knees.

Anthea1948 Thu 17-Oct-19 11:04:54

I daresay I often look daft, but if I love a piece of clothing I'd buy it and wear it, although I do avoid anything that is too tight and will show all the bulges!

Theoddbird Thu 17-Oct-19 11:03:17

Jeans or a skirt above my knees....

Chestnut Thu 17-Oct-19 10:53:54

I would love a pair of suede ankle boots but I suspect they wouldn’t be comfy as I have dodgy feet.
These are suede ankle boots which look good with leggings and jeans and are very comfortable.

Your not supposed to wear leopard print over 50 I read in one magazine but I love animal print and have long tunics and tops with it on. So there!

Barmeyoldbat Thu 17-Oct-19 10:44:13

Anything that is vintage. I am vintage and look like a little old lady in them.

Leah50 Thu 17-Oct-19 10:37:37

Light coloured tops look awful on me as I'm 22 on the boobs & 16 on the bum, 5' 8" tall. Got good long legs though so love black leggings & trousers, & wear dark jewel coloured tunics, T-shirts etc. I'd never wear white.

Craftycat Thu 17-Oct-19 10:36:15

A pleated skirt- not at any price!!! Or brogue type shoes.
Actually there are masses of things I wouldn't wear- I love jeans in winter & shorts or short skirts in summer.

Would not wear black, white or brown either.

TrendyNannie6 Thu 17-Oct-19 10:35:53

I will rephrase if I had good legs I would wear shorts, wouldn’t wear short skirts above the knee, don’t wear trainers or baggy trousers love skinny jeans, don’t wear heels I’m tall enough 5ft 7, I wouldn’t wear a bikini but would if had figure

TrendyNannie6 Thu 17-Oct-19 10:31:31

You should have bought it, if I love something regardless of the colour if it fits I will buy: the things I won’t wear are thongs crocs sleeveless things, as I hate top of my arms, wouldn’t wear see through things, I love v neck tops but wouldn’t wear anything that I considered too low, short skirts, shorts, if I had good legs I would: if I liked my arms I would wear sleeveless, for me it’s all about looking reasonable,

Trainers, I just hate them. But I do have good sturdy walking shoes, and use them just for my long walks in the countryside.
Old lady baggy trousers - I wear skinny jeans or leggings.
Flat shoes; I am short enough already and need every inch from heels I can get! I do not like Hotter shoes, too old dearish and unfashionable - I have told DD to shoot me should she find me wearing them!
Anything with a tie or belt round the middle; I would look like a sack of potatoes.
Grey hair; I shall go on having mine coloured for ever! And would never perm it.
Anything pink, it is so much not my colour and I look dreadful in it.
Polo neck sweaters, being over-endowed on top, they do not suit me. And I have a short neck.
Anything that my late DM would have worn. She looked like an old dear years before she should have done, similarly late DMil.
