Pre Xmas De-cluttering Pledge support requested

I am today making a pledge to throw something I don't want or need away or give to charity every single day from today until Xmas Day. I know I hoard too many thing.

Yesterday I threw away 26 folders of degree notes and teaching file notes. I have been retired two years now so do not need them anymore.

Today I have been looking in my wardrobe and found a blu ray player box that has been there for 3 years. I know it is shameful.

Will anyone join me in a pre Xmas de-clutter and try to throw something away, even if something small every day?

Stop putting manure in his shoes?

It is worth sewing them up if you have a machine? and I'm just wondering if the school has a 2nd hand shop?

MissAdventure Sun 17-Nov-19 22:51:22

I have a dilemma.
4 pairs of good quality (only bought them in September) school trousers.

Grown out of, so they are split around the crotch area, along the seam.

What to do with them?

I don't want to spend my time sewing them up to then give to charity, but they're too good to just ditch.

Any suggestions?

^ should read "not useful to us" ^ I am so dopey at times.

I'm still keeping to the pledge and throwing out anything useful to us,OH has been through his shed and found bits and bobs of tools he has had for years and dropped them off at the Charity shop.
The boxes that I stored the xmas presents in have been broken down and disposed of and the presents wrapped I know they are taking up space but not for long.
Sent 4 x mens winter jackets to Thompsons mission for the homeless who go there along with some ladies woollen scarf's they will get some good wear out of them.

I'm working on the 'more out than in' method too. It's a bit haphazard so I am keeping a list of out and in (not including Christmas gifts to go anyway).
Just found a stash of old paint charts! Also knitting patterns pulled out of magazines and mostly never made.

Took 4 bags of stuff to Oxfam and have a raw knuckle to prove it. Their bell doesn't work and a notice days please bang really hard. I did. Ouch! Still the stuff has been got rid of.

MissAdventure Sat 16-Nov-19 16:54:00

I'm sure there are decluttering experts on YouTube, and so on, but I wouldn't know what's the best method.

I just keep trying to send more out than I fetch in.

Surely that'll work, eventually? grin

Grammaretto Sat 16-Nov-19 16:48:55

Oh dear. I just bought more "stuff" at the craft fair. I think I need lessons in de-cluttering.
How do you start?
Do you begin by tidying?
Do you start in the easiest room or the hardest?
I mean my attic, which is walk in so a giant cupboard really, has hardly space to move but I hardly ever go in there so isn't as desperate as other parts of the house..

Haven't done much for a couple of days but just found some costume jewellery which GC can take for their 'Good as New' sale.

I missed today as well. I have a large rug rolled up in the hall. I was given it when I needed to cover bare boards before the floor was sanded and oiled. I must find a new home for it before it becomes a feature.
It is quite hideous!
DH has brought home some cake tins he bought in the midl of lidl.
I am cross with him.
We don't need cake tins.

MissAdventure Fri 15-Nov-19 21:06:27

Just a lamp base to charity today; I feel worn out this week, but I'm a bit cross with myself for losing the impetus.

Got DG1 to go through all her clothes and give me the ones she has outgrown and those she has been given but won't wear again.I got a whole bag full of good quality clothes for the charity shop and her room and drawers are tidier.

I had to stay home until almost dark waiting for an order. I phoned at midday in case it wasn't coming but it eventually turned up at 3.30pm.
So that's my excuse for no recycling today. I suppose I could have de-cluttered but I felt like cooking instead.
I know all about running out of steam MissA.
It's probably bedtime.

MissAdventure Thu 14-Nov-19 20:58:57

Nothing gone today.
I forgot to take a bag of books out with me, and I have run out of steam for now.

That's useful to know about the bikes Grammaretto. Round here they are often just left out with the bins .

Grammaretto Wed 13-Nov-19 16:23:54

Thank you seasider and grin

I'm feeling quite satisfied as the bike which a student left here last year has just been collected by a charity called the bike station and they called it a £100 bike, as that is what they will receive once the bike has been done up for sale!
He left me a thankyou card which says they have saved over 60,000 bikes from Landfill. They repair and recondition around half of the bikes and strip down and reuse parts from the rest.

I also gave some babywool and old patterns to the knitting group. Is my halo shining?

seasider Wed 13-Nov-19 07:03:48

There is a charity called "Smalls for All" that will accept bras in good condition to send to women in Africa. My bras are quite big and my partner said if they don't fit anybody at least they can use them as a hammock for their babies!

Grammaretto Tue 12-Nov-19 21:51:32

You are all doing so well. I haven't managed to recycle a thing today. Infact I haven't left the house. Tomorrow I will try to make up for it.....

MissAdventure Tue 12-Nov-19 19:08:33

2 football kit jacket things (you can tell I have an avid interest!) to charity today.
It's all I felt I could manage.

I'm worn out with trudging around with bags full of stuff to take on my way to or from work.

threexnanny Tue 12-Nov-19 14:57:36

I found a very well -chewed dog toy and a damp box of garden fertilizer to throw out yesterday. Now got to find suitable things for GC's school Rags to Riches sale. They only want good as new stuff!

Grammaretto Mon 11-Nov-19 23:03:04

That is a good idea grannyticktock.
I will ask. They are rehearsing the panto at present.

grannyticktock Mon 11-Nov-19 23:00:15

I have now binned a dusty old straw basket that was hanging in my inner porch, with some tired old dried flowers in it.

grannyticktock Mon 11-Nov-19 22:57:41

Gramaretto, a local theatre or drama club might welcome the items you mention.
