I used to do my own thing, without any objections.

Barmeyoldbat Sun 13-Oct-19 16:29:41

Yes I went to Downton Abbey on my own as Mr B didn't want to go, he had a cold. Say no more.

I feel that doing something on your own makes you feel really good about your self and empowering. Recently went out with 3 unknown older men on a cycle ride, which was hard, but I did feel good afterwards.

Well done Kupari. I am sure you will love it and perfectly capable of catching a taxi form train station to venue.

Gonegirl Sun 13-Oct-19 15:45:43

That's so good Kupari. Enjoy. ?

Willow500 Sun 13-Oct-19 15:41:10

Well done - you won't regret it! We saw Lord of the Dance a few years ago in Sheffield which was brilliant.

I've gone to gigs and festivals on my own for years as our musical tastes are poles apart - you usually find someone to talk to while you're there.

Oh well done. My husband and I go to the theatre in London about six times a year which we both really enjoy. However, it is always a play because DH "can't be doing with musicals". You have inspired me to book 'Singin' in the Rain' next summer and go by myself. X

I loved Riverdance when I saw it many many years ago in Ipswich I do go to shows and cinema on my own if no one wants or is interested
I m going on Tuesday to see a showing of Gauguin none of my friends are very into art and I am so, that’s fine I saw Lowry on my own too but equally I m off to see Judy with my friend
I d rather go alone than with someone not really wanting to be there
The only thing I can do alone is walk into a pub

Good for you! I had to decide a long time ago that there were some things I either had to do on my own or with friends, but were not DH's cup of tea. When money was tight, it felt like an indulgence, so I would use gift money, and found that if I went on my own (I could get to London on the train easily back then) I could often get a ticket at 'sold out' performances.
We do go to some concerts together, but I still go to some things on my own, and I don't have to think about anyone else.

GrannySomerset Sun 13-Oct-19 15:09:19

Brilliant. Come back to tell us all about it.

KatyK Sun 13-Oct-19 15:06:51

Good for you. Have a lovely time. I desperately wanted to see Michael Bublé live. My DH said 'No way. Too expensive, too far to go etc'. He relented and we got amazing seats. I could have reached out and touched Michael. I restrained myself. grin What a show and DH loved it.

M0nica Sun 13-Oct-19 15:04:59

Well done, now you can go and see anything you like - and you will not have to drag anyone with you who will just be grumpy about it.

glammanana Sun 13-Oct-19 15:01:31

Well done Kupari I hope you enjoy your day out, something great to look forward to during the next few months of miserable weather.
I did something similar a few weeks ago and took myself off to the cinema to watch the release of Downton Abbey it opened on my birthday so like you I treated my self to two hours of self indulgence. Enjoy.

MissAdventure Sun 13-Oct-19 14:55:37

You'll have a great time, I'm sure, all the better because you won't have to keep asking himself if he's ok. smile

My mum went to see it with her partner, who sat there with a bit of tissue in each ear.

Luckygirl Sun 13-Oct-19 14:54:55

Yay! - High Five!!!!

NanKate Sun 13-Oct-19 14:52:44

I’m with you 100% Kupari. I admire women who do their own thing, just as I do. When I mention to DH a film I want to see and he shows little interest I say ‘Don’t worry I am fine going on my own’. I think being independent is so important as one never knows what the future will bring.

vena11 Sun 13-Oct-19 14:42:06

Well done. I hope you enjoy it.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 13-Oct-19 14:31:54

Well done Kupri, I wish you an amazing day.

(We saw riverdance and thoroughly enjoyed it)

nanaK54 Sun 13-Oct-19 14:22:40

Good for you! Hope you have a wonderful time

EllanVannin Sun 13-Oct-19 14:22:04

I remember seeing Lord of the Dance years ago in Manchester. Brilliant !

Barmeyoldbat Sun 13-Oct-19 14:22:01

Kupri well done and I am sure you will enjoy the adventure of getting there and then seeing Riverdance. I saw it about 2 or 3 years ago in Bristol. I don't go often to shows but I did make a point of going to this one and I was not disappointed. Go early and treat yourself to some lunch as well and leave Mr Kupri to get his own.

If you start striking out on your own you never know he might feel he is missing out and start to join you.

wildswan16 Sun 13-Oct-19 14:21:09

Oh, there'll be no stopping you now. Your husband had better watch out!

Riverdance seen live is so much better than on TV or video.
A lovely treat for you to look forward to through the winter.

Auntieflo Sun 13-Oct-19 14:19:23

Well done Kupari

We saw Riverdance , when it was at Hammersmith, I think, and DH bought the tickets with a win he had had on the Lottery. Brilliant show.

Sparklefizz Sun 13-Oct-19 14:18:12

Well done Kupari. Perhaps it's the first of many such excursions??

craftyone Sun 13-Oct-19 14:16:19

oh well done kupari smile

I went to my first solo event yesterday, an opera

Kupari45 Sun 13-Oct-19 14:10:17

This morning I read in sunday supplement that RIVER DANCE are coming to Newcastle next April. I've always admired the dancing, music and beautiful costumes when I saw it in T.V.
So, I suggest to O.H. what about getting tickets- to which he gives the usual response (Oh I cant be doing with all that racket). So readers I had a moment of madness at 10.00am this morning. Ive gone on line and booked myself a ticket for a Matinee performance next April.
Its an hour on the train from our village to Newcastle and then I have to get myself to the Arena.
I'm so looking forward to it- I'm 75 the week before so its a present to me.
When I told O.H. what I'd done he couldnt believe it, and said but I dont want to go-to which I replied dont worry you're not going!
Perhaps this is the beginning of a more outgoing me - I do hope so.
