My DH's great niece made a rare visit to us last year and announced that she was going on a school ski trip to Austria. Hubby gave her €50 spending money and I loaned her my ski gloves, goggles and a small rucksack.
When we were organising our own ski holiday at the start of this year I phoned GN to ask for the return of my stuff. Her mother told me that the ski stuff had been stolen and the rucksack had got ripped so GN had thrown it out.
No further explanation, apology or replacements were offered!

Yes I share your pain with some quite rare vinyl albums loaned out way back in the day, never to be seen again. I also loaned a SIGNED copy of Freddie Mercury’s official biography to someone a couple of factory units along from us. We had known him for years so I wasn’t worried . We came in one Monday morning and they had cleared out ! angry I bet the swine sold it on eBay.

I lent my Dyson vacuum cleaner to DD. Son in law took it out to vacuum his car, forgot it was still outside and reversed the car over it!

Books aplenty have been lent by me, never to be seen again.

A full set of collectable magazines ..remember Crriers Kitchen ,bought weekly and put in folders to make a great cookery book/reference.Lent to a friend who was a chef...he moved to Spain and took it with him 30 years ago.I doubt I'll see it agin.Loads of CD's and Vinyl albums ,I've bought Eddie Readers Robert Burns album 17 times ...I told her that I had and she was most impressed .It sort of went walkies after guests had heard it and asked to borrow it.They have gone worldwide ,to the USA and both coasts of Canda ,to Spain and France and Croatia and Cyprus .I'm thinking of asking for a share in the royalties...lol

I was chatting to my eldest DGD’s on the way to school this morning and they were talking about the younger girl lending someone at school her calculator who had then claimed to have lost it . (We had a late night rush to Asda last night to replace it as she has a maths assessment today) . The older girl said “you will learn never to lend anything important to anyone”.

It got me thinking about things I have loaned out in the past never to see again and other things that people almost think of as their own and you have to almost beg for it back. Like for example we have/had a VAX carpet shampoo machine that my sister has taken claim over, even having the cheek to lend it out to her boyfriend who has then lent it out again without even asking . angry

Then it’s things like some folding garden chairs , bye bye, a portable heater, bye bye and crikey knows what else.

What have you loaned out and never had returned ?
