A Day in the Life of a Modern Gran

I know that people do have their children and grandchildren at a young age paddyann, I was just questioning their stats given that women on average are not having their first baby until they’re 30 - which means it’s impossible for the average age of a first time gran to be 49 . My maths skills are atrocious though, I could easily have misunderstood that.

Just had a look at it.....I wrote the 5pm bit ( had forgotten all about it though.)?

My first GS was born when I was 49 SirChenjin I was married at 21 ,my daughter was born when I was 24 and 6 months old.Her son was born when she was 24 and 6 months old..oh and she had been married for 2 years and 6 months .I'm almost 66 now and have 5 GC the oldest nearing 17 and the youngest 3 weeks .I never felt I was particularly young to be a granny .Maybe because my mother was agran at 42 and so was my MIL who is now 85 with a 64 year old son

I suppose so triaher - they’ll have the figures for first time mums via health records but first time gran figures will be harder to obtain officially. 49 seems v young though - I’m 50 and only know one woman who’s a GM at our age and that’s the result of a mistake ( her word!) at 18 now being almost 30 and having his own child

The only bit I recognise in that was getting my news on the tv first thing while catching up with social media.

I though that SirChenjin but I suppose it depends on the number of people you are surveying. There are a few very young mums which I assume somehow skewed the Gran figures.

Sure Trisher. I was mildly surprised to see that it all came from posts on the forums.

It didn't really resonate with me, but then again we can't be expected to slot into stereotypical roles anymore than other demographics would, clearly from the diverse experiences expressed on GN, we are all different, why wouldn't we be. Although I have certainly read posts where some grandparents feel overwhelmed by the amount of looking after grandchildren they do, which was raised in the link.

Thanks Grannyknot. I agree but I couldn't help thinking it is a load of b***. And what you get when you start averaging things out. But wouldn't it be boring if Grans realy were like that!

I read it and found it quite amusing in a "women's magazine article" sort of way. It's fluff, I didn't take it seriously
