This was a very popular thread a few years ago and I thought I would revive it.
We welcome happy days, sad days and even slightly boasting days , every thing that has happened is very welcome.
I said when I mentioned that I might start this thread that my own life was very boring, getting up, eating, GN and going to bed.
How things change.
My 20 year old eldest GC has moved in with me, totally unexpectedly.
She has had a somewhat troubled life which I won’t go into but she is my best friend, the most supportive of my family with my H , she adored her GD and was my best help when he died.
I am somewhat overwhelmed by today’s events but so happy she has chosen to be with me.
To get to the mundane, we have had a lovely roast pork dinner with all the trimmings and I am now enjoying a glass of red before I go and sort the kitchen out.

I am so happy to report I have had a bath.
I know it was foolish with nobody in the house but I just really craved one.
A shower just wouldn't have done.
It was the first since last December.
I took the key from out of the door, left the bathroom door open and took my mobile into the bathroom with me, it was bliss.
I won't repeat it in a hurry, I am satisfied for now.

Callistemon Tue 22-Oct-19 16:39:38

Well done, annsixty.
I haven't had a bath since well before I fell and had an injury but am tempted to have a try.

What a nasty woman, ga
Even if she didn't feel inclined to rush over to help (and why not just ask if you were OK?), there was absolutely no need to be so vicious.

NfkDumpling Tue 22-Oct-19 18:11:19

Love baths! Nothing beats a good wallow.

I’ve just spent nearly seven hours in a large tent talking to hundreds (if not thousands) of children and their responsible adults about our rivers. Loved it, brilliant kids, brilliant parents and grandparents - but am now rather slightly knackered. Have a large brandy to sip - medicinal, for my tired throat.

BBbevan Tue 22-Oct-19 18:17:00

Made with DH, another raised bed in veg plot. Dug over and planted broad beans in established bed. Made complicated low carb fish cakes for supper. Just had a shower. We do have a bath. It is very deep and I have difficulty getting out of it. ?

I was delighted early this morning when I looked out of the window and saw that the bin men had taken away the broken chair, and a redundant floor lamp. How silly to get excited about such a small thing.
Put away our bins and my neighbour's, who is away until tomorrow, and took in a parcel for another neighbour.
Sat and started to crochet a black cat for my DD, as they lost their old cat last Friday.
Had a telephone conversation with the Dr, about how long to stay on these new tablets, and he has sent a new prescription to the chemist for me to pick up later this week.
I had thought I may volunteer this afternoon, but I had to wait in for the Dr's call. Actually, I think I may be a bit ambitious, about returning.
So will see next week, as I miss going.
Had a tasty lunch of home made chicken soup. After lunch DH went and played with the weed killer in the front garden, and seemed to be enjoying himself.
I made some spiced apple muffins, and they look good.
Did a bit more crocheting, then we had supper, courtesy of DD and SIL, from the food they brought here on Sunday. I sat and finished the remains of a big pot of yogurt, with a long handled teaspoon, saving on the washing up!
Will watch Dublins Murders later on, meanwhile, back to my crochet.

Meant to say to Annsixty, do have a go with your Karcher window cleaner, it is very easy and satisfying.

BlueSapphire Tue 22-Oct-19 19:26:07

Got demented at my vacuum cleaner this morning as it is just not picking up the cat fur any longer.
Had early lunch and went on a Health Walk which was great as the weather was nice and had a lovely chat as we walked round. Went for coffee with group afterwards.
Then cut the back grass when I got home, wondering if that will do now for this year. But I still have the front to do. Tomorrow maybe.
Just waiting for bathroom fitter to come and look at what I need for my new cloakroom. Having a glass of wine while I wait....

Marydoll Tue 22-Oct-19 20:48:11

After waiting eight days for one of my RA drugs to be dispensed, I decided this afternoon to phone and chase it up.
However, I discovered there is a shortage of it and none is available anywhere. sad
On doing some research, I discovered that there is a world wide shortage of it. If this is the case, why is it still being prescribed?

As I will run out soon and I'm unsure if I have to be weaned off it, I sought advice.
My afternoon was spent entertaining my wee granddaughter and at the same time phoning my consultant, the rheumatology specialist nurses, my GP and anyone I thought could help.
None of them could be contacted.

So I'm off to watch the Dublin Murders, despite not understanding it and I will start phoning all over again tomorrow.
I would love to indulge in a cheeky wee Pinot Grigio, but will have to settle for a cuppa and a BIG bar of chocolate! grin

Grammaretto Tue 22-Oct-19 22:11:47

After a rather fraught couple of days in the north with sick (temporarily) DD and minding DGC and getting some insight into their remote life, we are returned to hot showers and baths and own bed. Bliss.

We are missing their bats and barn owl and the constant chatter, singing and help with the cooking from the 4 yr old.

annsixty Tue 22-Oct-19 22:12:05

Just back from a catch up with a friend.
Sorry Marydoll look away now, we shared a bottle of Shiraz and very nice it was too.
I shouldn't say this but I am always pleased when it is my turn to take the wine as she doesn't appreciate a good bottle as much as I do.
Isn't that an awful thing to say?
She has many other good qualities and keeps me entertained for a couple of hours.
My GD is already in bed and I am off there now.
Sleep well everyone.

Luckygirl Tue 22-Oct-19 22:24:21

A bath! - I wish!!! But I do shower.

Such a busy day today involved with the primary school where I am governor: appraisals, interviews for new staff, and a full governors' meeting which went on and on....and on....and on. Zzzzzzz!

Back home to a cold house - how I hate the cold months and the dark.

BradfordLass72 Sun 27-Oct-19 04:31:02

BlueSapphire what's stopping it? Summat up yer pipe maybe grin bag full?

annsixty No, it's not awful, it's a fair comment. If someone brought a nice bottle to share with me I'd certainly enjoy it - but I couldn't reciprotate because I am no wine connoisseur. So no doubt it was a nice little treat for her. smile

Not a happy day for me. A friend sent me, via her lawyer's email, some affidavits to print out (no one with phones has a printer these days) and wanted me to arrange her presence before a JP to sign.

When I read them, as requested, several of the clauses were blatant lies. I rang to advise the consequences of signing on Oath and presenting these in Court. It is, in fact, perjury if you knowlingly lie.

Well, my goodness what a hysterical diatribe followed .
I sat it out and said, calmly, if she wanted to sign then it was her choice but I could not be a party to it.

I felt very sad about the whole situation. Told the barrister, whom I know, that the affidavits were not, after all, going to be Couriered to him - and why. Its a long, holiday weekend here so I have not yet heard from him.

I confided this to a friend in New York and she taught me a new phrase, 'energy vampire'.

I had to look it up and gadzooks, she's absolutely spot on; it describes exactly how my histrionic friend acts.

But it has been a beautifully sunny day; winds from the Antarctic have finally gone and it really does seem as if Spring is here.
My gorgeous purple irises are in full bloom and the house is full of of fragrant freesias.

BradfordLass; Be careful of what you say! We're having our third Winter of the year this week-end after a couple of days of summer, 30C+ last week and it could well be heading your way after giving us a good pasting! sad
Watched the Poms give your lads a rugby lesson last evening; live on TV. wink
Wasn't nail-biting stuff! Let's hear it for the Taffies tonight, also live. OoRoo

Luckygirl Sun 27-Oct-19 08:01:00

Didn't have time to post last night - so here is what I did yesterday:

Blew my top (politely) on email with the choral society I belong to and for whom I do all the publicity and programmes. There is a new young man on the committee (slightly lacking in social skills) who sent an email carping about the current programme draft I sent for proofing - it is no different from others that have gone before (in terms of the things he was carping about) but I bit my tongue. Then a message from the chair who has obviously seen the conversation and saying he too had decided he did not like it.

Now....this task takes weeks: researching music, composers, photos, biogs from soloists, adverts etc. etc. - never mind the artwork and design tasks.

I am going away now for 5 days and the plan was to have this at the printers while I was away - now not possible. I am so cross - I do all this for free!!!

Basically they are trying to avoid doing the proof reading, because it is a tedious task. I asked for a named person to do it and that fell on deaf ears.

I am pretty cross and have told them that before the next concert they need to decide what they want, so I do not have to go through this again.

Well - that's that off my chest!!!

Went to see OH in his nursing home. Things much the same, but he is getting slightly more muddled.

Back home to what should have been packing but finished up as vegging in front of TV!

annsixty Sun 27-Oct-19 08:26:43

I have been AWOL for a few days.
I haven’t felt well, very stressed with household things, it is a fact that the older one gets the more things get on top of you.
I have had a new bedroom carpet fitted in the room my GD is having.
The effort of getting the room empty and stuff everywhere really got me down.
It is all done now but much stuff to get rid of which is mostly cluttering my bedroom up.
I had been toying with the idea of having my kitchen refitted or at least new cupboard doors and worktops.
That idea is now firmly quashed, the present one will “see me out” as I am now saying about everything.
Enjoy your break Luckygirl I am very sure you are ready for it.

Luckygirl Sun 27-Oct-19 09:12:33

I so sympathise ann - I always put off home re-arranging tasks and tidying up. I make a desultory start then peter out. Maybe these things seem a bit less important now. But how lovely to have a GD staying, and a lovely room now ready for her - worth all the hassle.

I will enjoy my break - thank you! Can't wait. I have taken books and embroidery for when I am sitting overlooking the sea; and scarves, ear muffs and gloves for when I venture out for a walk along the sands. Ready for anything, me!!!!

dragonfly46 Sun 27-Oct-19 09:22:04

How lovely Lucky that you can finally get away and have time to yourself. I hope you have a wonderful time and come back fighting fit to do battle with the choral society. They are lucky to have you.

I hope you are feeling better today ann and can enjoy having your GD around.

I felt quite energised yesterday after my chemo session on Friday - must be the steroids. Must take it easier today although I really must tidy the house.

annsixty Sun 27-Oct-19 09:51:26

Please dragonfly take it easy.
You may feel ok but your body is dealing with a lot.
I didn’t have chemo but 5 weeks of 5 days a week radiotherapy.
Half way through I just flagged , I was forced to take it easy then even though we still had our GD 2 days a week.
Fortunately Grandad was a firm favourite with her.
To all dealing with worries, problems, tomorrow is another day.

BradfordLass72 Sun 27-Oct-19 23:59:30

Yes, indeed, all of you, be kind to yourselves. Life does take a bit more work as you get older. I'm finding that as well.

Why don't I have the energy I had when I was a bouncing 60? smile

Better day for me, though the dregs of that awful confrontation are still lurking in the bottom of my consciousness.
Tomorrow is another day
flowers to all xxx

Wide awake for some, doubtlessly daft, reason. So, what did I do on Sunday? We joined the incredibly long queue for the car park at a local NT with me muttering about it being a waste of time. Sometimes Mr C’s (real or convenient) hearing loss is a blessing as once parked the stress I've been carrying just disappeared in the very welcome sunshine. It’s been so dark and dreary, to simply walk under the trees, see the changing colours and laugh at the antics of the children (not ours so no responsibility) worked magic. A cuppa and very good shortbread biscuit later I walked back to the car, a rarity as I usually head for the courtesy bus for the uphill return. I’m left with one question though. Why on earth aren’t I sound asleep?

Dragonfly can I echo ann’s wise advice, please do rest or at least pace yourself. Enjoy your break lucky, you deserve it. Look after yourself ann, gently does it.

Sounds as if you gave very wise advice bradfordlass. I also looked up energy vampire, my thanks for sharing the term, it exactly describes two people in my life at the moment. No wonder I’ve been stressed.

Now, will I sleep? Maybe, maybe not but I’ve a book to read so I’m not stressing about that. Take care everyone.

annsixty Mon 28-Oct-19 13:54:05

Hope you don't feel "wrecked" corner
I am no stranger to bad nights so I know how you feel.
I feel much better today though still a bit weary, yesterday again I never got dressed and we ate out of the freezer, no bad thing, I tend to put stuff in and forget it.
Today I have washed my hair, done two loads of washing and generally tidied up.
Sadly I can no longer put washing out.
It takes all my energy to reach up and down to the line, such a poor thing I have become.
However my neighbour rang this Morning and we are going shopping on Wednesday and out for a meal on Friday evening, hooray.

Auntieflo Tue 29-Oct-19 08:58:21

I do like this thread, but often forget to post, get into bed, then think "oh bother". Other phrases are available!
On Sunday, I made it to Church, after an absence of 2/3 weeks, and it was lovely to catch up with all our friends. In the afternoon, DH decided to cut off the growth that our smoke bush has put on. It had got much too tall and was leaning badly in the heavy winds. I supervised ?, and he got a lot of it down.
So, on Monday morning DH went outside to tackle the remains of the bush/ tree, and managed to cut the branches into manageable sizes to take to the tip. It will all have to go in our new car, so tarpaulins at the ready to cover the seats.
As our lovely cleaner will not be coming, (children on half term), I thought that I would do the upstairs. Got tired out and had just had a shower and washed my hair, when we had visitors bring flowers and cheery faces. So we had to stop for coffee. By the time they had gone, my hair had dried without help from a hairdryer. ?
I have almost finished my crocheted baby dinosaur, to add to the collection of animals that I have done recently.
Dino, is to be a present for the cleaner's daughter, who is mad about them. Just hope she approves.

NfkDumpling Tue 29-Oct-19 21:10:31

As it was a lovely, if chilly, morning we decided to take our little boat for a last chug up the river before she’s lifted out for the winter. The trees are changing colour and it was beautiful, saw two kingfishers and a large dog otter enjoying a fish. Wonderful! Then back to the mooring to clean the boat and evict the spiders. I’d like to think they won’t swim back again.

cornergran Tue 29-Oct-19 21:31:08

I was fine yesterday, thank you ann but thoroughly fed up tonight. Hair cut this morning, not too bad an outcome but the loud music was torture. Then off to a meeting about local care provision, freezing cold hall, hard chairs and as I feared a retrograde step. To cap it off Mr C has developed a cold, full on sniffing, sneezing, coughing, sighing type. I feel as flat as the proverbial pancake and wonder what joys tomorrow will bring. Suspect Mr C will need to stay in bed, at least it will muffle the sneezes but in fairness he does seem proper poorly. Sorry everyone, wish I could be cheerful. Love the sound of your boat trip nfk, I’m sure the dinosaur will be met with approval auntieflo, how could it not be?
