This was a very popular thread a few years ago and I thought I would revive it.
We welcome happy days, sad days and even slightly boasting days , every thing that has happened is very welcome.
I said when I mentioned that I might start this thread that my own life was very boring, getting up, eating, GN and going to bed.
How things change.
My 20 year old eldest GC has moved in with me, totally unexpectedly.
She has had a somewhat troubled life which I won’t go into but she is my best friend, the most supportive of my family with my H , she adored her GD and was my best help when he died.
I am somewhat overwhelmed by today’s events but so happy she has chosen to be with me.
To get to the mundane, we have had a lovely roast pork dinner with all the trimmings and I am now enjoying a glass of red before I go and sort the kitchen out.

I have been on outings out of the house for 3 days, a record for recent months so today is an in day.
I have done some washing and cleared out some wardrobe shelves, they were rather untidy.
I have had an early lunch as I had an early start, I had a sandwich ( on white bread, shock horror) of Blackstick blue cheese with pickled beetroot, it was absolutely delicious.

Cleaned showeroom and utility floors with smelly pine 'disinfectant '. Changed bottom sheet and pillowcases. Gave dog a little left over cheese with her breakfast which much appreciated. Replied to philosophy website. Rejoiced Rory Stewart back in focus.

Ginny42 you have just lived my ideal day!! smile

MiniMoon Thu 03-Oct-19 23:14:46

Today I made chicken tikka masala from scratch using Madur Jaffrey's recipe. D S comes on a Thursday for his lunch as it's his day off.

This afternoon/ evening, I felt rather fatigued and achy. The nurse said that might happen, since I had my fly jab yesterday.

Watched tv for a while and noticed that no sound was coming from the soundbar. Got on to Mr. Google for a solution. I followed the instructions and fixed it. All I had to do was unplug the power cable, wait 30 seconds, plug it in again and reset it. Easy.?
Now I'm in bed, flushed with success.

On holiday in 30+ degrees during today. Slow start as I slept like Rip Van Winkle after a very early flight yesterday.

Decided not to be a mad English person out in the midday sun, so I got out my paints in the hottest part of the day. Doing a version of Klimt design on silk mostly in shades of turquoise/blue and green but with purple and yellow in places. I'm a great fiddler.

Delicious salad for lunch and followed by a siesta. Went to the bar and had an alcohol free mocktail, expensive but delicious. Fed some stray cats with left over lunch.

Caught up with the news from the UK and on GN. Sorry to read of frosty mornings! Read for much of the evening, now off to bed to read some more. An altogether lazy day.

Urmstongran Thu 03-Oct-19 19:58:35

Erm... not much. Lazy me. I’ve read loads, spent FAR too much time on this forum, got bored so sorted out my handbags (emptying them) putting them away. Sorted some lipsticks and tidied up my make up. Peeled some potatoes, popped some braising steak, onion and carrots into the oven at 4pm on a low light. It smelt gorgeous. We’ve just eaten. Husband washed up now he’s back to the streamed Man Utd game (abroad somewhere) and I’m going to see if I can find something of interest on the television.

If not I’ll probably be back on here ....
?

What have I done today? not a lot.
I showered and had breakfast, the gradually lost any urge to do anything. So I have been on the settee all day, snug in my new throw. Hot drinks being supplied regularly by DH.
I slept this afternoon, did a bit of crocheting, but couldn't concentrate properly. Popped in and out of GN, and was just generally lazy.
Didn't want any lunch, but have just had supper, lovely.
I shall watch a bit of TV and probably have an early night.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 03-Oct-19 19:01:21

Put away the shopping delivery.
Put on the white hot wash and tumbled it dry - towels.
Today I re-raked the patterns in the zen garden gravel. Love doing that, it gets hypnotic.
Did some weeding and began to cut back the roses
Lunch was jacket potato and baked beans
Prepared supper
Put away my summer sandals and replaced with winter shoes.
Read some more Hundred Years War. Dozed off?.
Had a bath
Ate supper. Lamb Ragu
Now watching “unbelievable”

Grammaretto Thu 03-Oct-19 18:58:02

I couldn't get my newly mended mower to work! Its frustrating because I know if I was younger and stronger it would be easy.
I had a friend over this afternoon which was nice.
The sun has gone down again and it's to be a cold night.

Making someone you love happy is such a joy isn't it paddyann? I remember the happiness DH and I got from just doing DD’s little garden for her and the baby . smile

Today I have been to “that place” all day . Freezing again as the heater is useless unless you sit on top of it . Making a nice dinner tonight as we have lived on rubbish this week as I haven’t been able to be bothered to “clart on” cooking .

Waiting for the house to warm through might even have a cheeky glass of vino tinto with my dinner . Thank god it’s Friday tomorrow . x

paddyann Thu 03-Oct-19 18:49:02

Bradfordlass I told her I'd test her on it at the weekend ..lol

paddyann Thu 03-Oct-19 18:46:41

Today my OH and I went to our daughters and decorated a room for her ..well almost ...its still needs one wall done as we ran out of wallpaper paste .One more room to do and thats the whole house done since July .Her husband works away and she get very down as she is bedbound much of the time so something as simple as a room decorated can make a huge difference to her .Its good to see her smile .She also loves having her Daddy to chat to as he works ,they love all the same things and can talk for hours. It was only when I got home at 5.15 I realised I hadn't eaten since 6 last night ..no wonder I was tired ...lol

GrannySomerset Thu 03-Oct-19 18:37:51

Haircut, more trawling of WI archives and tonight local History Society. A productive day and some social interaction at the end. What’s not to like?

BradfordLass72 Thu 03-Oct-19 08:02:20

Paddyann I hope all your reminiscense were recorded, it's so hard to remember if you can't play it back.

I ducked out on my duties at the house of mourning completely today as the bug I thought I'd beaten, came back to claim my voice.

So I spent the day in my nightgown, listening to the totally rivetting, "Caesar's last breath : decoding the secrets of the air around us." by Sam Kean.

Haven't felt like eating but picked at a few grapes and had some miso soup at lunchtime.
Slept most of the afternoon (what luxury to be able to do so) and now, at 8pm feel a good deal better. Haven't tried out the voice as there's no one to talk to but my throat's not so scratchy. smile

Email just in asks if I will have my grandson on Monday and Thursday next week - so that's something lovely to look forward to. Might take him climbing, he always enjoys that.

GrannySomerset Thu 03-Oct-19 00:02:52

Supermarket trip with DH this morning - always .leisurely with him in tow as he not only wants to read all the labels but also to challenge whether we really need things. Only challenges boring stuff like dishwasher tablets and loo roll, though; wine, chocolate and biscuits go in the trolley without a murmur!

More work on WI archive this afternoon and evening because I am running out of time owing to not starting soon enough. Some of us never learn.

B9exchange Wed 02-Oct-19 23:51:13

So glad you are safely back home AuntiFlo, and commiserations to all those miserable with colds etc.

DH and I went on a coach trip to Lincoln, early start but weather perfect. We didn't have time to do more than grab lunch in Lincoln Castle cafe and walk round the outside of the castle and the cathedral. We followed that with a walk down the very steep Strait with its little speciality shops, and the more difficult climb back up!

Then it was off to the Bomber Command Centre, so sad that those 56,000 young people of Bomber Command who died had to wait so long for any form of recognition for the sacrifices they made, and even now are denied a medal. There are so few of them left, would it really hurt to remedy that? The average life expectancy of these aircrew once they started flying was two to three weeks, and they knew that when they signed up, but were desperate to save their country. Imagine if that was your son or grandson.

It you get a chance, do visit. There is a 102' high hollow spire, the width of the wing span of a Lancaster bomber. Around it are curved metal boards with the names of the 55,500 of Bomber Command who died in the war, and a ribbon of fame where you can add a brick for any relative who died in the war.

There is a very good visitor centre with some of the stories of the crew brought to life in film, and filming of the bombings. Plus a shop and cafe of course!

Home via the traffic jams of the M1, back to our reality...

gillybob Wed 02-Oct-19 23:32:57

How lovely paddyann smile

paddyann Wed 02-Oct-19 23:20:26

After a call from my sons partner I went to sit with her and our 3 week old wee girl, sons partner wanted to hear family stories so she can pass them on which I thought was lovely. So I sat for 2 hours talking about My gran and mum and my children from when the were babies and showing her photographs of baby's dad at the same age.He was in an incubator and only 3 pounds at 3 weeks but the resemblance with his wee daughter is amazing. Its like looking at the same baby.We had tea,and cake before I left to collect the prescription that the chemist told me was difficult to get and might be harder to get if/when brexit happens.Home to make some apple crumble topped pies for the freezer from apples handed in by a neighbour and had just made dinner when son ,partner and baby dropped in on their way from the supermarket. Two visits in one day.I feel so lucky to have such a thoughtful family..although they did take chicken and sweetcorn soup.lasagne and those apple crumble pies home with them ..wonder if that was the plan...lol

Village coffee morning this morning and I do the washing up. A quick lunch and put a wash on (for DH to hang out later) then WI committee meeting in the afternoon. Next a bit of gardening, removing some weeds and put in some plants I have grown from seed. They are rock roses and apricot foxgloves. We then dashed off to look at items for sale in our local auction house (big shed). Always an interesting variety but nothing I desire this time. Fish and chips in the pub then home to chill out and watch a bit of the athletics. Also cutting up bits of fabric ready to stitch back together. (To make a 'scrap' quilt.)

Marydoll Wed 02-Oct-19 22:58:33

Glad you are home and safely tucked up! X

Auntieflo Wed 02-Oct-19 22:57:17

Thank you all for your kind wishes.
Well, I got home around 4.30 ish, courtesy of DD and SIL, in their lovely spacious, easy to access, car.
It is lovely to be back, and I feel so lucky to have only been away for 1 night. A couple of ward mates have been there since before the weekend.
NHS certainly at it's best where I have been concerned. Staff were all lovely, kind and considerate, and keeping you informed wherever necessary.
DH has survived, just! He had to cook rice last night, and said it was terrible. But he managed some vegs for him tonight, with quiche from the freezer, ( one I had prepared earlier) and salad for me.
We will survive.
I feel very well and now must take the advice given, not to do anything at all strenuous for the next 6 weeks.
Tucked up in bed now, and catching up on GN news.
Night, night all.

Urmstongran Wed 02-Oct-19 22:34:17

I’m coming to live with you EV your meals always sound delicious!

Esther1 Wed 02-Oct-19 22:07:49

Up early to drive to my dd’s house and drop gd at school and then dd at work, as her car (actually my other car which she uses) was booked in for mot. Lovely garage not only picked up the car but delivered it back AND it passed. Put me in a very happy mood. Gym class this morning then home for housework then school pick up and later out again to pick up dd from work. So very happy to have dd, wonderful sil and gd close by - I do a lot for them but they are so appreciative and give me such joy. It’s nice to feel useful and needed. dh still works from choice - but is increasingly dependent on everyone around him, both in the business (his own) and family.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 02-Oct-19 21:52:56

I did a bit of delicate washing.

Finished planting spring bulbs, have only got the tulips to plant in pots but I leave those until Nov-Dec

Did a bit of cutting back.

Chicken sandwich for lunch.

Read for an hour “Hundred Years War”

Tea with neighbour

Broccoli pasta for supper.

Nothing much on tv that interests me, so watched the Capture recorded from yesterday?

Just going to bed, to read

grannyactivist Wed 02-Oct-19 21:49:56

Yes, that is what my prescription meds are at the moment Grammaretto - but only for a week longer and then I can at least drop the steroid tablets and antibiotic capsules (I have quite a few ongoing medical issues).

MawB I had shingles in my eye a couple of years back, so badly I needed hospital treatment and the eye consultant was actually called out to see me in the early hours of the morning. I was ill with it for many, many months, but this time it's not so bad. My consultant told me I can bypass the usual referral route and ring his secretary for an appointment if the shingles returns and I think I need to see him, which is very reassuring. (I get the same excellent service as if I was paying for it directly and feel very fortunate to do so.)
