What are your facilities like ?

2 bed flat, 1 bathroom containing the bath and toilet.

My house has a downstairs loo and consider it one of the assets of my house. I know that it is something that I would miss if I moved ?

Why does "facilities" sound so furtive?

We have a bathroom and two lavs.

All this talk of facilities has made me smile. Many years ago we lived on an RAF base( DH had quite a senior position).
The married quarter was old and rambling ,we had 7 toilets over three floors.
I did home tutoring at the time and on his first visit I took my pupil on a tour of the house as an exercise in drawing plans etc.
His comment to his mother when she collected him and asked how he had got on was “ it’s amazing- Miss has 7 places for a wee”!
We’ve come down in the world since then and now have just an en-suite,family bathroom and downstairs loo.

We have the main bathroom, 2 en-suite shower rooms and the Utility room toilet. Whilst they are nice to have, there are too many to clean

I do, of course, have toilet envy...hahaha

We live in a 2 bedroom maisonette over a shop, we have 3 bathrooms! We converted the flat from offices and originally had an en-suite and a bathroom but we then put another en-suite in the other bedroom when we swapped rooms with the teenager...I couldn’t share a bathroom with the teen and all his mates ?

When house hunting; one non compromise was a downstairs loo or the option of creating one. Our current house has one bathroom and one downstairs loo/ cloakroom. It was invaluable when I broke my ankle a few years ago and going up and downstairs was a bit treacherous. I also don't like my visitors going upstairs (too untidy!!!)

3 bedrooms each with an ensuite. Master bedroom has a bath plus shower though we don't often use the bath.One bedroom is downstairs which is ideal for older family visiting. But wish we had a separate toilet for visitors so that they didn't have to go through bedrooms

We have a downstairs loo/shower that we put in when we extended the kitchen; a bathroom/ loo on the first floor ( we knocked into one) and a shower/ loo on the top floor in what was the loft. We had 5 adults in the house for a month recently and it felt like we didn’t have enough loos. When we go away with our grown up daughter we always look for a property with two loos. I believe new builds all have to have a downstairs loo

We have 2 but they are both upstairs. We want one downstairs thoigh especially after a few people I know have had accidents that have meant they can't climb stairs. I worry about being in that position as I can't face a commode

Our house had 2 loos but when we moved into our flat we only have one and it’s in the bathroom. Bit of a pain at times.

Not what I had in mind when I had to downsize post divorce some years ago..

When I was little, we lived in a two up, two down house with no bathroom and an outside loo at the bottom of the garden. Now we have a family bathroom with walk in shower washbasin and loo and an en-suite with a smaller walk in shower, wash basin and loo. Mine and his

Family bathroom - sink, loo, separate shower and bath. Upstairs a shower room with loo and sink. Due to health conditions not happy in a property with one loo, especially if it's in the bath/shower room.

I also remember the loo at the top of my nan's garden - a steep garden - and of course the gazunder for night time. Very fond memories of the Rhonda Valley back in the 50s.

Terribull we tried looking for somewhere with less stairs but same floor area but the new flats being built around here are much smaller and three times the price!! I don't know how they get away with it.

One shower room, no bath, took it out as we never used it, upstairs. Also upstairs is a toilet. Downstairs we have a toilet. Works fine for us and when guest come too. Only drawback the little grandchildren aren't too keen on showers and can't have a bath.

Four bedroom house. Family bathroom upstairs, guestroom has ensuite with shower, and there's a toilet in the downstairs utility room. When all the AC and GC come to stay there are 17 of us and 3 loos are still not enough!

We have a 3-bedroom house from the 1800s. The upstairs bathroom is 9ft square, and has bath, loo, basin and walk-in shower. When we came here 30-ish years ago, there was a bidet but no shower, so we juggled things about. (We had a cat who used the shower as her emergency toilet if she was fastened in for too long; I was never sure how I felt about that, but she always squatted over its drain.) There used to be an outside loo, next to the coal- and wash-house; it was a flusher, not an Elsan or earth privy by then. About a dozen years ago, we pulled down the outhouse and broke through a wall so that now we have a utility room and a downstairs bathroom with loo, tiny basin and walk-in shower - and a walk-in garage. The cars live outside, though! But sticks, logs, coal, tools, large garden equipment, wellies, workbench, paint, bikes and even a 'pantry' (shelves in a cold corner) are in there and accessible without going outside.

We are house-hunting right now. We'd prefer a bungalow if possible, but WHY do so many only have one loo, usually in the only bathroom? We need at least 2 loos, including a guest cloakroom, and ideally a master bedroom with an ensuite. In our current house we have 3 loos, plus one in the garden (not too lovely!) I do feel that our requirements are far greater than the loo-conditions we were brought up with, but times have changed. And our toilet habits!

We have four toilets and 3 bathrooms, quite unnecessary really, but our house is on 3 floors. Going up 2 flights of stairs will be the death of us We've often talked about sidesizing, moving out a few miles and buying something with less stairs but the same square footage. We have a small garden but magnificent communal gardens with the Thames at the bottom. Yesterday, like many of the residents, we were down at the water's edge with a glass of wine watching all the boats go by. On hot summer days such as right now, at such times it does make me wonder if we will be able to tear ourselves away, but have already earmarked a couple of towns, one in particular where we'd like to go.

The house I live in (goes with “the job”’ has an upstairs bathroom with an over bath shower, a separate loo and a downstairs loo with tiny was hand basin. Four bedrooms and one of the bedrooms has a basin in it.
The house I own (jointly with OH) is in the process of being extended and refurbished, and has an upstairs bathroom with bath, basin and shower cubicle and lots of storage cupboards, and a separate loo. And we have been able to turn the minuscule downstairs loo into a shower room with loo, basin and shower...and cupboards for storage. Three bedrooms.

We recently moved from a 1 bathroom with loo to a modest 3 bed with main b/room & loo, small ensuite & downstairs loo - heaven! Esp the cloakroom because I can't race upstairs for a loo trip any more or from the garden. I have a small laundry room but no sink in there which I got used to when living overseas. I know people who fitted a macerator loo under the stairs. I really appreciate my extra facilities. I grew up with a tin bath in the kitchen and the loo across the backyard & Izal loo paper - you didn't linger!

I live alone in a new-build two floor, two bed terrace which has the luxury of a visitor loo downstairs and a bathroom with loo upstairs. It's perfect, great for visitors and for me too.

OTOH sister lives in a 1960s four bed house which has one bathroom - clearly inadequate. There was a loo next to the garage which was 'out of order' when they moved in and it remains so as BIL is not a natural handyman. I'd be really peeved about that if I was her.
