I was beginning to feel old before my daughter reached her 50th birthday. When your granddaughter asks if you saw real dinosaurs, hi

When a charming young man handed me a basket in a supermarket to “save you bending over”.

It's when I look at my friends of a similar age, (late fifties) & they are starting to move like an older person, & have wrinkles.
I feel facially, I'm aging quite well but I walk like an old woman!

When my much younger sister in law wouldn't let me carry a box downstairs because "I'm aware you are 70 now" Lovely girl but I could have slapped her!!

Sorry to say this but uncontrollable trumps

It was when I put on a sleeveless top and noticed the crepey skin that dangles from my upper arms; the knots of blue veins that snake up the backs of my hands and the jowls that hang from my face when I lean forward.

When people offer me a seat on the train.

When a number of business customers started to pull out of computer maintenance contracts with me because they felt the need to guarantee future support for their businesses. I'm still providing such services to other businesses several years on.

when i realise i cant remember appointment dates even though i have written them on my calendar......eyes brows knotted .em i dont think so...mind you was on bus the other day. sitting in the disabled seats. bus driver says you need to sit in another seat. why says me. BECAUSE he says you have to be over 60 or disabled etc. oooh says me .well i am disabled (dont need a badge to say so.) AND says me .i am over 60.!!!! .....that shut him up. every so often caught him looking at me in his mirror. so i smiled sweetly at him. when i got off i said thanks you made my day.....he went very red in the face.

When the wrinkles on my upper lip started multiplying.

annep1, I feel your pain! I've just had a report letter following an emergency hospital referral and read that I was seen by the Consultant Physician for Elderly Care. I'm 64!

Have the NHS made a unilateral decision about ageing? Out here in the real world, the demarcation is less clear and being in our sixties isn't generally thought of as elderly.

Maybe, though, this is an opportunity for some joined-up government thinking that'd be to our advantage. If the NHS believe that we WASPI women are elderly, why aren't we receiving our State Pensions??

Welshlady2000 smile I was crossing the road to go to the local shop and a teenage girl offered to take me across the road as it was icy (58) lol!!! bless her there are some good ones about

We all age at different rates and some 80 year old grans are in better nick than some others 20 years younger. I love my escorted holidays in far flung places and am always the oldest in any group. At the end of a holiday we usually have a group meeting and farewell dinner, and the leader always says something like " I am glad you have all enjoyed the trip, and we were all privileged to meet Anna, an inspiration to us all."

When my grandchildren jokingly tell me.

I had a huge shock when I found my body h(pair had gone gray. Somehow didn’t expect that, daft isn’t it, of course it was going to gobgray, but, uff, still got a surprise. How did i know I was now aging, that’s how, lol

Months after my second hip replacement and feeling 'yuk' to be told by friend?? what do you expect at your age'.
That's all I need.

I was very fit up to the age of 60, working full time in a physically demanding job and doing lots of walking/cycling, then I developed severe pain in my knees resulting in a later knee placement, and I seem to have gone downhill physically since then. Now approaching 70, I recognise I am declining mentally as well, and my driving skills are certainly not what they were.

When I bought my first pair of Hotter shoes last month - and loved them!

Rosina Fri 16-Aug-19 11:08:59

Me too GagaJo. I was never much of a party 'animal' and I too have come to realise that going away is more of a chore than a pleasure. That said, I am lucky enough to live in a beautiful part of this country and perhaps if I lived in a grotty place a holiday wold be such a treat.

When I realised that I could never get an Irish Wolfhound! I had always thought I would have one eventually. When my much loved Standard Poodle died 5-years-ago, I realised that it would not be fair to such a large dog for me to have one as, with arthritis, I couldn’t be sure that I could meet all of it’s exercise needs, or be strong enough to deal with such a large, heavy dog in a crisis. I found it quite sobering to realise that I had missed the boat on some things!

When my wee granddaughter asked me if I'd ever met Hitler .

MaryXYX Fri 16-Aug-19 11:06:48

I'm slower and stiffer, but I don't act my age. I'm going to spend this weekend in a Viking village as a Saxon nun. It isn't really the best weather for camping.

annep1 Fri 16-Aug-19 11:02:12

Some of these are so funny. Its good we can laugh at it.

mrsgreenfingers56 Fri 16-Aug-19 10:59:56

Still feel young even though gone through major life changing surgery but do look forward to the end of the evening when I can finally sit down and knit, read or watch good TV. Very sorry to read Sheilasue you lost your son 11 years ago, yes it is totally the wrong way round. Life is so very unfair at times and gets me cross.

HootyMcOwlface Fri 16-Aug-19 10:59:16

Welshlady that really made me laugh!
