I hate it, I hate it, I bloody hate it!

After I wrap something in cling film, but before I tear, I twist so that the end to be severed is now easily gotten, a bit like making a fold on the end of sellotape. I rarely use the box as it usually gouges my finger ends.
My friend used to get in such a tizz with her cling film that what she had in the drawer was nothing like the original article. She would ask me to disentangle it whenever I was there when she was using it.
I really am not in league with the devil as one of my dil's claims, ( I can also fold fitted sheets wonderfully ) I have just learned how to win the fight against possessed items. lol

I don't know if it helps but I think if you approach the cling film with too much aggression it likes to fight back.

A gentle touch allows a little of the roll to unravel and it behaves better.

Perhaps this is old news/advice but keep your cling film in the fridge. Don't know about sellotape as in my 'once tried never forgotten' experience all it achieved was turn the adhesive 'stick to anything it touches part' into a super glue substance making it too hard to unravel.

Another vote from me for the bees-wax cover sheets. Haven't used cling-film since learning how awful it is for the environment. (Sadly we've a spare, unused, large Lakeland cling-film roll, sitting in a cupboard.)

I must say in my defence on using controller satisfactorily, I have only flown once in the last 11 years and that was very short haul.
I do not have a car and I use public transport maybe once in 2 weeks.
My carbon footprint is quite low.

I havent been on here for months. So glad I dipped in today, a very funny scenario.
I'm a user of clingfilm as well as silicone covers. Just fold the end of the clingfilm back on its self after tearing off. The next time you want to use it it will be easy to just pull away from the roll

Leave a bit longer ,about 2 incheswhen you tear off and crunch it up you will be able to see it. or slow down as I have done and just do 2 things at a time and not 3,4 or 5!

Put the roll on a chopping board as wide as the roll.
Pull out the required length of clingfilm.
Run a knife (doesn't have to be sharp) along where the clingfilm leaves the roll.
Should have a flat piece of clingfilm on your worktop.

Try Pro Idee stanless steel dispenser - it’s expensive, but there is a little thumb hole to trap the errant film while tearing and then all you have to do is pull an inch or so over the tearing teeth on the outside to stop it retreating. I’ve got three, so film, foil and parchment are safely stashed.

I hate it too but after this roll i wont buy any more. I can put a plate or a clean t towel over cooked food. I will not buy single use plastic

The cling film dispenser sold by Sainsburys is absolutely brilliant. I used to have all the problems with cling film described by Phoenix and others, but since using Sainsburys dispenser it all works like a dream. I use cling film numerous times a day - no problem.

Phoenix, loved your post and completely agree with every word. You might like to add rolls of selotape to the mix?

So frustrating. Do you use the always tear cling film back on itself trick. If you haven't it's this. If you are right handed hold box in your left hand with the lid falling to the left and the film coming up flowing to the right from below the main roll acting almost like a weight. (That's once you have found the edge). Pull the film taut then cut on serrated edge of box. Leave the cling film with enough stuck on edge before closing. Works for me. Technically you are pulling the film over the back of the film but it is still in it's box. Never pull up over the top of the roll, as the film will crinkle and stick.

When you buy a new roll of glad wrap just put it in the fridge just for an hour. It will glide out smoothly from then on! Then you can just keep the roll out of the fridge...it's like magic!

I don’t like cling film either, along with other disposable plastic products it’s ending up in oceans, rivers and washed up on the seashores of some unfortunate countries. In this day and age it’s time to use something else.

The other problem with cling film and cling wrap is they contain chemicals. If it’s not BPA it’s other chemicals. I am loathe to wrap sandwiches, especially for my GC in cling film.

I use baking paper to wrap sandwiches and decor glass casserole oven to table dishes with lids on them to keep food fresh. I use them in the oven, fridge and freezer. I usually buy them when they are on special.

I use foil instead of cling film. It’s easier to get off the roll!

What did we do before clingfilm?

We used greaseproof paper and did a clever twisty tucking thing all around the top of the receptacle, as you do when steaming a pudding.

It was quite tight, if you did it correctly. And reusable.

Never use the hideous stuff and wouldn't eat food that had been wrapped in it - especially moisture high content food

This thread has encouraged me to chuck two of my five rolls out. They were from Netto! How long has Netto been gone?

The remaining three rolls, all opened and part used, are labelled that they contain 'no PVA'. Is that the same as BPA, mentioned upthread? Anyway, there are some good tips on here if I should use any of them again.
