Ancient telly programmes

Lots of lovely old programmes above which I remember.
One that stands out to me is "A Boquet of Barbed Wire"
which was quite shocking in it's day. It included incest and lots of affairs and sex! The cast included Frank Finlay, Susan Penhaligon, Hermoine Norris, etc.
I absolutely loved it. Not sure what that says about me!

George and Mildred, man about the house. My son's favourite was Terry and June.

A series of 3 plays with Judy Dench called 'Talking to a Stranger". Each play was about the same conversation/incident from the perspective of 3 members of the same family and each play was completely different. Anyway that is how I remember it.... Your recollection may be completely different!!!

Not that long ago but 'To the Manor Born' was top of my must watch list.

I watch Talking Pictures every night. some good old films there, plus Public Eye with the lovely Alfred Burke as Frank Marker. Growing up abroad we did not have TV and when I came to England and got married to another from abroad we did not have TV, and never had it until our daughter aged 7 complained and said all her school friends had it. So we only have memories of 70s TV onwards. I remember Dr Who scaring the wits out of my little son aged 4, he had to hide behind the sofa but would not tolerate the TV being turned off!

Anyone else remember Champion the Wonder Horse and Rin Tin Tin? Children’s programmes from the 60’s!

The Singing Ringing Tree. Truly bizarre fairy story from Eastern Europe. It had a mad looking bear.

My parents loved Songs of Praise and would sing along - to this day I still hate it. Memories of school next day.

Something called The Epilogue and The Brains Trust, which Dad liked. Dull as heck for a child.

I had a crush on David McCallum in The Man from Uncle, and also Davy Jones in the Monkees!

Rawhide and Wagon Train. Loved these usually on a Monday night. Used to run home from the local cafe where I had had a coke with friends to see the wild west.

In the 60s I was seeing a lovely lad. His cousins all had the surname Quatermass. The writer picked it from the telephone directory. Poor kids.

I remember lots of these but one of my favourites was Twizzle - I loved how he could stretch his arms and legs! Also,Torchy the Battery Boy.
There was a great comedy called Marriage Lines,I think it was with Prunella Scales.
I've been watching episodes of Get Some In on Youtube,still funny and reminds me of happier times.

Thanks for the heads up on the Talking Pictures channel. I’ll look out for that. I too loved Wagon Train and Rawhide with Rowdy Yates. Also remember Man in a Suitcase/ the Invaders / Twilight Zone amongst others. All time favourites were Robin Hood and William Tell. I have the theme tune as my ringtone ! Someone mentioned Department S with the gorgeous Jason King. I can still remember my disappointment discovering he batted for the other side. Peter Wyngarde was a great actor and much missed !

Dr Kildare ! I was only ever allowed to watch the opening of the programme before I was sent to bed!
I've had a crush on Richard Chamberlain from that day up to this !!!

What was the pop programme on ITV I think, where the latest releases were played to a judging panel which included a woman from Birmingham who said "Oyl give it foive" if she really liked it?

Think that was Juke Box Jury with David Jacobs. We all loved Take your Pick with Michael Miles and Hughie Green did one I think it had the Yes or No interlude in it but I can’t remember the show.

In Scotland during the late fifties we had the , One o'clock Gang.

My two would be Butterflies and Telfer's change.

We used to love the Westerns = Wagon Train (Robert Horton), Laramie (Robert Fuller), Rawhide (Clint Eastwood), Cheyanne (Clint Walker).
We weren't allowed to watch Quatermass either and there were always big protests.
When we were junior school children we used to love the Sunday serials for children and I particularly remember Children of the New Forest and one called The Cabin in the Clearing. Our greenhouse and potting shed were turned into versions of them when we played. Just writing this has made me remember The Silver Sword as well. Heidi too.
If they cancelled childrens TV because of some sports match then we were furious, or if our parents wanted to go out visiting and we missed an episode there were big sulks all round. No recording devices then.

Yes I was in love with Dr Kildare as well. Anyone remember Peyton Place? Earliest memory was watching Liberace, can't remember the name of the program as I was only 5 years old.

How I loved Bootsie and Snudge.

Compact was a favourite of mine, especially Sandy.

I remember Circus Boy, featuring a young Micky Dolenz later a member of the Monkees.

As an adult my favourite was The Thorn Birds.

I too had a crush on Richard chamberlain in Dr. Kildare and was so disappointed when he turned up as a baddie in Towering Inferno. We also liked Dr. Findlay’s Casebook and many others mentioned here. But there are some comedies like ‘some mothers do ave em’ that I enjoyed at the time, but couldn’t bear to watch now.

A late Thursday night treat for me (when oh met chums for a drink) was to settle with a whisky and bag of crisps to watch ‘Soap’. It was so outrageous I loved it.
