The weather is awful, it's not even August and the nights are drawing in. My husband has an irritating cough and the cat has disappeared.

MissAdventure Sun 04-Aug-19 15:29:04

Big moan..
My sofas from Argos (in the sale) were suddenly unavailable and they didn't know when or if they would get more.
"Choose something different" they said, which I couldn't, because they were too expensive.
I cancelled the order and instead, found 2 new sofas from a shop on eBay.

Just out of interest, I called into Argos, checked, and the original sofas were available (but not at the sale price)

Too late, because my eBay ones were paid for, and a delivery date set.

Now the eBay man has disappeared from eBay, not answering messages, and eBay have informed me they had 'concerns' about his account.
Sigh...

Merseybelle2 Sun 04-Aug-19 19:28:21

Oh MisAdventure bad luck ! That must be a worry. My new sofa was delivered a few months ago and the men turned it on its side and screwed the legs on. As soon they’d gone we found one of the legs had been screwed on too tight and broken. We had to use a brick that side so we could use it. Three days later a chair I’d ordered from Argos came. My DH Mr Magoo screwed the legs on. Yes. He split one of the legs on that too.
Hope you get your money back soon and a better sofa heads your way !

____I can't stop laughing here.

Merseybelle2 Sun 04-Aug-19 22:36:04

The perfect end to a perfect day/ weekend. Just had one too many white wines to help me sleep. Fed up with toilet seat still not being fixed. Son face timed me and said my face was red as a tomato. And now I’ve just watched Mr Magoo eat the last packet of prawn cocktail crisps. Feel like putting a meat cleaver through his head angry

Bellanonna Sun 04-Aug-19 22:38:01

Sleep well, Merseybelle ?

Minniemoo Sun 04-Aug-19 22:41:00

What a shame I can't send you my bags of prawn cocktail crisps, Merseybelle. We buy the multi packs and nobody likes them so we have about 87 bags in the cupboard.

Merseybelle2 Sun 04-Aug-19 23:03:45

Minniemoo - your house sounds like heaven !!! I love prawn cocktail or cheese and onion crisps !!!

Have been forced to finish off the bottle of wine ( and Cassis ) as Mr Magoo has retired for the night. Just need to make sure we’re locked up and then go up myself armed with a can of air freshener. If they had Olympic farting Mr Magoo would have won a gold medal by now so without my Dettox spray or a biohazard suit I can’t go into the bedroom. I have to hold my breath throw open the door, three quick sprays and then slam the door shut again. By the time my ablutions are completed most of the noxious aromas have subsided. Sweet dreams smile

Another moan from yesterday. We went to visit family in Bedford and had heard the A1 was closed in both directions so DH looked up where the issue was and despite my suggestion we went down the M1 declared there was a diversion in place - off at junction 14 and round the closure then back on further down. Simples! NOT! Warning signs well before the junction but instead of saying 3 lanes were closed they were just flashing 40 so although we joined the queuing traffic in lane one 1.7 miles from it there were still cars doing 70 in the other 3 lanes then obviously realising at the last minute (or simply chancing it till there was no option) they were pulling in up front causing a huge tailback in our lane. DH was getting more and more irate at the lack of planning, the time it was taking and the idiot drivers (which included huge trucks AND a police car) ploughing on regardless. He resorted to opening the window and yelling at them as the second lane eventually came to a standstill at the side of us while I tried desperately to get the seat to swallow me up and disappear. When we finally got to the cones reducing traffic to one lane they were all over the place as folks had cut through at various points but the lane did then start to move so we got under way again. We arrived at sons slightly frazzled 90 mins past the original ETA. Thankfully the return route was open but we could see the problem on the other side was still the same! Traffic management must have been taking the day off!

Dippy friend Rose cancelled (at 8am) our trip to a 9am class. Then turned up at 9:15, raring to go. "Raring" means driving at half the speed limit.
After class went with her to the supermarket and saw soup in sachets.
Suddenly realised I had left soup on the hob over 2 hours before.

"Dashed" back home by Rose - every red light, trucks doing massive and very slow 5 point turns in the road, railway crossing down and bells ringing, me biting my nails down to the knuckle with anxiety and thought of house razed to the ground and the charity which owns it hauling me into court.

Soup was simmering slowly on lowest heat, all fine.

It's rained for 12 days without stopping. Wild winds, stroms, floods. Thus no laundry done and as I don't drive, no access to laundrette and dryers.
Thus, no clean knickers, except those dinky paper ones they provide in hospital.

Tomorrow I have a hospital appointment so do I go commando or in paper knickers and hope the wild winds don't decide to lift my skirts? Of course they will and probably when there's the largest audience.

Read this in a previous post 'manicure' but due to my eye problem actually saw "manic ure".

As 'ure' in Maori means penis, I sat for quite a while wondering why the poster was off to have a demented or crazed willie fitted.

Minniemoo Mon 05-Aug-19 08:44:25

Oh MerseyBelle2, laughing my head off at your post. I did wonder for a moment if Mr Magoo was your dog!

And BradfordLass! What a day.

For the moaning thread this has to have the funniest content of all.

I hope your cat has come back Lessismore.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 05-Aug-19 08:55:38

It's flipping Monday already!!!

Merseybelle2 Mon 05-Aug-19 09:52:59

Another day another dollar as dear old I’ve forgotten now who it was used to say. Last night was particularly bad, arthritis pain, and Mr Magoo was on fine form trumpeting at regular intervals. I get up feeling like I’ve been gassed in the trenches. First job opening all the windows ! Anyone know where I can get one of those anal bungs they use on death row, would like one for Mr Magoo’s next birthday present ?

gillybob Mon 05-Aug-19 09:57:43

It's flipping Monday already!!!

It is indeed GrannyGravy and I HATE Mondays and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays

I just live for Friday PM until Sunday lunch time (when the dread kicks in) and its rubbish .

moggie57 Mon 05-Aug-19 10:12:53

try boiled up sweet chestnut leaves for irratating cough. dont use if you allergic to nuts.get about 12 leaves of sweetchestnut leaves. cut up finely. pour boiling water on and leave till cool. strain and put in a glass bottle . use 4 times a day ,measure about a small glass full.... dont go UGH .it really works.....i was desperate last year and turned to my country remedy book.... i was dubious whether it would work. or whether it would taste yukky.. but no it tasted slightly nutty and it worked ....

EllanVannin Mon 05-Aug-19 10:18:33

You can always rely on the truth from Liverpudlians, hahaha.
Classic.

Buy him a kite for Christmas.

Merseybelle2 Mon 05-Aug-19 12:35:27

Brilliant idea EllanVannin - I can push him off the top of St Johns Beacon with it and hopefully point him in your direction, OVER THE WATER !!

Marydoll Mon 05-Aug-19 13:56:28

My Monday just got worse!
I phoned to update my travel insurance after my recent problems, they told me that they were cancelling my insurance, as I had Medical conditions overload angry
I feel I have been written off.

I have just about managed to persuade my GP to allow me to go on holiday in four weeks. sad? However, I can't risk going without travel ins.
Just spent hours online, trying to find someone who will insure me.

Marydoll Mon 05-Aug-19 13:57:57

PS, I hate being old! I'm only fifteen in my head.

EllanVannin Mon 05-Aug-19 14:02:25

Age UK used to do a good insurance.

Marydoll Mon 05-Aug-19 14:14:00

Thanks, EllenVannin, hopefully there is someone out there who will insure me.
I already use a specialist one, but they have ditched me. I didn't realise I was on my way out!!!

annsixty Mon 05-Aug-19 14:29:35

So sorry Marydoll
Someone will come along to help you.
Sadly it isn’t me.
Yesterday my S’s SD came for dinner , I see very little of her, it suits us both.
She didn’t greet me when she came in, no change there.
Next thing she was in the kitchen, trying a nectarine, she didn’t like it.
She went in the fridge and found a pot of olives, she at least looked at me questioningly and I said ,yes, you can have them.
Next thing she had helped herself to bowl of cereal and a glass of apple juice.
If by now you are wondering why my S and I didn’t say anything, it is a very, very difficult situation with her bipolar mother and my S, he does not live with her.
We have to tread on eggshells as there are 2 younger children who are used as threats.
I got the meal ready, my GS, her half brother was also there, he is so helpful and kind.
They decided to eat outside so GS set the table.
When everything was ready she was on the phone but did respond quite soon.
She then picked at her food, she picked some up with her fingers including meat, she nibbled some of the end of a fork, never using a knife.
In this fashion she did clear her plate
How old is this “child”.
19 in September and off to uni ,doing a very academic degree course.

Merseybelle2 Mon 05-Aug-19 15:19:17

annsixty - I sympathise. Every family has at least one little toe rag in it x

Namsnanny Mon 05-Aug-19 15:37:25

These look like I feel today!

Oldandverygrey Mon 05-Aug-19 16:13:31

Just wondering if Bohemiam's chickens have laid any eggs yet.

dragonfly46 Mon 05-Aug-19 16:30:48

Went for my pre-op today but still do not have a definite date for the op. I was told that afterwards I will never feel the same though. Originally op was planned for 19th but they are starting on a new bathroom on that day. Now I cannot get through to confirm they are really coming that day.
