Gabriella I think that Jenni Murray is the fan of the 'scarf over the shoulder' look.
I've seen Miriam in too-short dresses on Marigold Hotel but she always looks comfortable with herself.
That's the essential thing; over-weight, over-thin, tall, short - just be comfortable and confident!

But I think what might be annoying others is your assumed air of superiority from someone in her mid (?) 70’s in criticising a (bowdlerised) version of the relaxed flowing style of the likes of Judi Dench or Camilla or Cherie Blair.!

You know you're either old overweight or both when you start wearing loose edge-to-edge full- length 'coats' over whatever shapeless garments you have on underneath or (an especial favourite of Dame Dench, Miriam Margolyes and the late Clare Rayner among others) half a kilim runner thrown over one shoulder...why? I've no idea. Not a scarf, not a jacket, not a pashmina. A huge dangling thing that serves no purpos.

No, it's not my intent to poke. At 11st 3lbs I can hardly pretend to be like a rake nor would I want to be under 11st.
I don't do stuff like fat shaming but it's a fact that some women (who carry a bit of avoirdupois) dress in baggy all encompassing garments which do not show off the many good points of the wearer.
If my comment ruffled your composure...I apologise but in saying that, I think you may well weigh less than I do so my comment could apply to me and were you to call me on my weight I'd suck it up.

Halfway through writing that comment I Googled 'mature full-figured female celebs who wear long scarves over one shoulder' and only Miriam came up. I just could not remember Jenny Murray's name although her picture was in my head.

True enough, Callistemon, we don't eat and only drink water while training! Just as well, because when I spill on my clothes it's always something tomato based and it never washes out!
