I don't feel old and I can't think of anything that makes me think I am old.

I went to tea with my lovely 52 year old son and realised he has a lot more grey hair than I have. It shows more on him as he has black hair and mine is blond so I hardly notice it changing.

I watch a TV channel called Talking Pictures TV, which shows a lot of films from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s, I recognise all those old actors, Kenneth More, Bette Davis,
Gregory Peck etc. To me those old films are more enjoyable than Lala Land, Stan and Ollie etc.

I agree with Hunpty Dunpty. In London people have started offering me their seats on trains and busses, and helpiing me if I have. case on stairs.
I am learning to enjoy it !

Definitely having children who are fifty or older, brings it home quite forcibly.

So are gold sandals a sign of age then?

GreenGran78 Thu 25-Jul-19 12:25:00

I consider other people of my age to be old, but not myself! Isn’t that weird?
However, I recently realised that the first thing I do, on arriving somewhere, is to pinpoint where the Ladies is. Maybe I’m older than I think!

I agree with everyone. Was initially insulted when a young man gave up his seat for me on the bus - but then was delighted to take it. When buying shoes my first thought is are they comfortable rather than what do they look like? Not being strong enough to open tins or jars. Planning a day's rest after a day out. Joining the National Trust. Going on coach holidays. And my GS tells me I huff and puff when I sit down or stand up. It all creeps up doesn't it.

When I decided this summer that I cant wear white trousers anymore. They used to be one of my staples.

I dont feel my age emotionally and mentally but my body does unfortunately.
I sometimes look in the mirror and think who is that!!!!
Also my 'baby' sister will be 60 this year and i can remember holding her after she was born at home she had a shock of jet black hair but it turn into white blonde as she grew and now it is starting to go grey.

Definitely feel old when GS reminds me that I am going to die. He hasn't yet added 'soon'!.

When I look at all the unread books in my kindle and wonder if I’ll be able to read them all before I die grin

Samiejb Thu 25-Jul-19 11:21:47

I look in the mirror
The bus driver calls me 'love'
Puffed out quicker
Sitting on the floor and can't get up again
Getting up from the settee with 'oooh

When I came last in a sparring competition. I nearly cried although I’m 69 and my opponents were all in their twenties and thirties. I thought I was a ridiculous old woman, but I’ve dusted myself off and am competing again in August.

Interesting. My age doesn't bother me one little bit but having a son of 50 made me ponder. Gee whiz!

nannypiano Thu 25-Jul-19 11:09:27

I didn't feel old until I read all your posts and found I could relate to them all.

My friend(now deceased),was around thirty five when her son asked her if they had stage coaches in Ireland when she was a little girl

Realising that most of my record collection artists are either ancient or dead.

When you’ve been diagnosed with illnesses that will make the rest of your life a real struggle. And reminisce about the days when you were fit and well.

DD and I were looking at a photo of my GM the other day when she was the same age I am now, 73. We couldn’t believe how old she looked compared to me, it did give me a boost, except when I was in London recently I was offered seats on the tube, 3 times. And I felt I needed them.

nipsmum Thu 25-Jul-19 10:10:27

When my granddaughter asks what age I was when I first saw a dinosaur.??

harrigran Thu 25-Jul-19 10:02:56

My son in law is 54 and DD 50, cripes I am ancient.

Blinko Thu 25-Jul-19 09:51:35

Ooh, DotMH1901, that would be my ideal scenario. Though not sure where I would put DH...

DotMH1901 Thu 25-Jul-19 09:47:12

I am 64 next month, my son is 43 and my daughter is 40. I live with my daughter and grandchildren (16, 12, 10) and I run the house whilst DD works full time - think that keeps me young as there is always something that needs doing! When I think back to my own lovely Gran at the same age she was an old lady - and dressed accordingly!. My DD and GD's pinch my clothes (something I could never imagine doing with my Gran/Mum) so I must still be in fashion smile
