Avoiding ironing

I haven't ironed in 40 years. I use the dryer balls, and take clothes out, and fold straight immediately. I also wear organic cotton, and linen, and have learned to love the slight "crumpled" look. Husbands shirts go to the laundry. Life is too short to iron.

Oh, and we haven't used fabric confditioner, for many years.

We keep ironing to a minimum. Bedding is never ironed, other than the occasional cotton pillowcases, for guests. Most larger clothes (shirts, tops, trousers, etc) are hung up on a Lakeland Ltd "Hangaway" www.lakeland.co.uk/2180/HangAway-Clothes-Hanger-Stand So there is minimal creasing. Oddly most of our ironing seems to be table linens and tea towels. (The latter store better when ironed.) DH does the ironing and listens to the radio while doing it.

Having had a weekly ironing day ritual back in my 20's & 30's, I now only iron if I really have to (shirts etc). The rest gets hung over a line or goes on hangers to dry. Or tumble dry if necessary.

Get a husband like mine who does all the ironing. The previous husband did the ironing as well!

My bad back absolutely hates ironing so I only do what is absolutely necessary. The rest gets folded and patted.
I don't like stuff like fabric conditioner. It's all chemicals.

That's because you didn't clean it.
I take out and clean the whole dispenser drawer plus wipe round the inside and drum, seal and door after every use. Takes maybe 2 mins and I leave both door and drawer fully open when not in use.

I actually wonder how good all these highly scented conditioners, sprays, room smellers are I tend to use as little ‘stuff’ in the cleaning aisle as possible and none of the highly perfumed room sprays and stuff that I really think are told us we need to make money

I used to do mountains of ironing when I had a young family, but now that I am retired and on my own, I just don't buy anything that will need it. Up until now I have only done my bed linen as I starch it and love the cool feel, but in this hot weather I am considering not doing so for once to see how they feel. The folding and smoothing method works well and any slight creases in clothes drop out on wearing.
I wasn't put on this earth to slave over housework or ironing!

I am very particular how I hang up clothes, inside or out and also I fold them neatly, do not have a crumpled heap.

I would iron if it were necessary but I have not done so for years. I would deliberately not buy anything with linen in it because I would have to iron that item.

I do most tops and trousers on a gentle wool cycle. Thats all they need really, so not very creased in the wash.

I use mind over matter. I don't particularly enjoy ironing but tell myself that clothes will look as though I've slept in them otherwise. I fill the iron with water and do just one 'tank-load' at a time whilst listening to the radio and looking forward to something more enjoyable.
I don't use fabric conditioner but try to iron before things get too dry as that makes it harder work, not that you need me to tell you that. And earlier in the day during this heat.

Most washing machines will allow you to reduce the temperature on each program.
Just select the program and click the temp button. The LED display should now show the lower temperature

I am one of the ironing brigade too have just come back from holiday and there has been one neck of a pile
A few bits I can get away without ironing but most would look unsightly without a press
So fan on and nearly done
I must be missing something but can't stand the sight of wrinkled clothes

I iron as little as possible. Bedding is folded and put straight in to the airing cupboard. UNdies into drawers. T shirts folded careful or hung on hangers. Maybe once a week i iron a couple of DH tops and my own but no, as little as poss. Once i ironed everything, but now i am retired I frankly don't give a damm and I don't have time!!!!! lol.

DH irons his shirts, I iron a few blouses, pillow cases, table cloths, but I do not use fabric conditioner any more. It made the dispenser drawer mouldy!

I'm one of the ironing brigade as well, really love my sheets etc ironed. Clothing as well. My children and grandchildren rarely iron anything.
My ironing pile has grown during this heatwave, I'm trying to ignore it.

I can't imagine wearing wrinkled or creased clothing either.
Luckily my method mean they always look ironed...even cotton shirts.

I always use fabric conditioner, and hang everything on a clothes hanger or use the tumble dryer and take things straight out before they get cool. They often don't need much ironing then.

Is there some reason why you can't / won't iron ? I can't imagine wearing wrinkled clothes, just for the sake of avoiding a brief amount of ironing.

I only iron clothes I have bought by mail order that have been folded in a packet for ages and have deep creases.

Sheets, duvet covers and so on don’t need ironing. It doesn’t matter if they’re a bit creased. Most clothes look ok if you hang them up straight out of the washing machine. If my husband were still alive and wanted ironed shirts he would do them himself, as my sons did. One son, who needs smart clothes for his job, sends them to the dry cleaners/laundry.

I have lived in this flat since October and the iron has only been used once. Why waste your life?

I know many people never iron but I honestly have clothes that would be too wrinkly to wear and my husband's shirts would not look good at all. I wouldn't feel comfortable in wrinkled clothes.

I find that clothes left on the line mostly need ironing. Especially when it's very hot. The drier eliminates the need for ironing. Can't recall the last time I did any

...nor do I have an outside washing line.
Friends don't believe that my clothes have never been ironed. I shake, smooth, hang and fold as appropriate. Jeans, towels, jumpers and heavy items dry in 2 days at most in winter. In summer it's less than a day for most clothes.
Open any drawer and every one is neat and tidy with clothes sorted and folded, clothes on hangers have plastic covers bought from eBay.
My AC are the same, especially the boys (men)
