I often find I use words not used be today's youngsters such as,

Super
Gosh
Okey Dokey
Budge up

What words do you use that are no longer in fashion ?

Instead of recording a tv programme I am taping or videoing it. Cinema is the pictures. I still say 'pull the chain' rather than 'flush the loo' yet I was 5 the last time we had a loo with a chain in the house. ?

I said I was flabbergasted the other day and my 9 year old GD couldn’t stop laughing and said no ones uses words like that any more nana! ?

jenni123 Fri 19-Jul-19 10:58:24

I ask my GD 'did you pull the chain' after her visit to the loo

Alypoole Fri 19-Jul-19 10:53:49

“Oh my giddy Aunt.”

LuckyFour Fri 19-Jul-19 10:48:28

I say pretty much most of the above! (Pretty much!!!)

I told my grandson (12) the other day that he had ‘the life of Riley ‘ , as he had not long been home from a school trip to France, and was off two days later on a trip to Kenilworth Castle....his reply was “ well I would have nan , my names Riley”..... which it is, I’d momentarily forgotten!

My son has just roared with laughter when I went to the dryer for my petticoat. (Wearing a nice thin dress today)

Gagagran Fri 19-Jul-19 10:42:08

I know many of these and they have made me smile! How about

Toodle pip
and
Twerp

JackyB Fri 19-Jul-19 10:40:22

Oh yes! Lugholes and fisogs!

Nannytopsy Fri 19-Jul-19 10:36:39

DH always calls our children and GC chaps and chappesses.
Up the wooden hill to Bedfordshire was Dad’s along with the bone in his leg.
“It’s beef!” is one of DH’s to describe anything good - an old advert I think.
As nesh as a gas mantle

Hazeld Fri 19-Jul-19 10:36:15

Okey dokey
Lugoles

Still use these

Grannytwo Fri 19-Jul-19 10:34:46

My husbands grandmother used to say

She’s sh-t her potful

Which always makes me smile

JaneA Fri 19-Jul-19 10:32:11

I think they'll make a bomb doing that - meaning I think they'll make a lot of money doing that. I always use that expression.

granjan66 Fri 19-Jul-19 10:31:27

Had the grandkids staying last week and one came down in the morning without combing his hair. I said "you look like you've been dragged through a hedge backwards!" . He said "what does that mean gran?" .

lmm6 Fri 19-Jul-19 10:22:39

Here in Devon we say dimpsy for when the sun goes down.
I say ‘records’ instead of CDs.
How about ‘slacks’ for trousers? Does anyone ever say that?
I said someone was ‘A Job’s comforter ‘ recently and nobody understood.

Nannyme Fri 19-Jul-19 10:19:58

I reduced my grandsons to fits of giggles when I said “it gives me the willies” and promptly got told off by their mum, who was also trying not to laugh!

Face, for goodness sake hmm

harrigran Fri 19-Jul-19 09:47:24

I use oh my giddy aunt and oh my goodness all the time especially on FB, young ones probably LOL.
When GD stays I often ask her if she wants to play her records, listen to music her fave is a picture.

Grammaretto Fri 19-Jul-19 07:04:35

How dare they hijack our good old expressions!
Ah well they are lost on me. A glory hole will always be a cupboard stuffed full of miscellanea.
I'd better put on my liberty bodice and lisle stockings.
My DMiL was humiliated a few years ago when her suspenders set off the airport security alarm.
