I own a steam cleaner, one of those five in one jobs. I never use the thing. I do my kitchen and bathroom floors, and the wooden staircase and hall floor with my good old mop and bucket. I treat it as a bit of a workout.

Very occasionally. More often, I use the steam mop, but sometimes I think the old elbow grease way is required.

My kitchen and bathroom floors are cleaned with a mop and bucket.....

Lidl have a steam mop coming up on Monday so I’m off to get one (€39 with a 3 year guarantee) - so handy here in Spain where everything is tiled.

Always do my little kitchen/bathroom in Wales on hands and knees- they’re so small I squat in middle and just spin around like a dervish a couple of times a week!

I woudn't bother about the legality of it, she is your grandaughter, she is just helping you out,
Also if she is on benefits they will reduce what she gets by the amount she earns, so will be no better off
Not worth the hassle

I'm eyeing up my GD to do any future cleaning once her youngest starts school. It'll lighten the load for me and also help her financially too. I'll have to see if this can be done " legally "as she gets some sort of benefits. I don't want her to get into trouble and I certainly don't want anyone coming after me either. I know nothing of these kind of laws.

In a word - 'NO'.

I bet they looked lovely though eazybee! I've got quarry tiles on my kitchen window sill. They rarely see the polish these days though. shock

I scrubbed my very small kitchen floor the other day; no particular satisfaction, but instantly reminded of my mother, whose most detested job was scrubbing the quarry tiles in the kitchen and scullery every Friday morning, then anointing them with Cardinal polish.

I wash the washable floors on my hands and knees, but am sure that won’t always be possible, so then I will mop.

I find it too knackering these days. Used to do the kitchen floor every day. Now I have a little robot thingy who that does it for me. Just once a week on a Friday.

“My cleaner” and I take turns in vacuuming and mopping . He does the stairs ( of which I have rather a lot) and I do the flat bits.

To pass the time we do it to Country Music played rather loud “YeeHaa” ( sorry neighbours ) . I often get down on my hands and knees to do it too, which has a much more satisfying end result shock
now, now come on, cut it out .....grin

Mop and bucket for me - occasionally I use a one or two Dettol floor wipes under my slippers and dance around the kitchen?

Hetty58 Fri 12-Jul-19 09:34:32

I'm happy with my cleaner. She likes cleaning floors but I don't.

EllanVannin Fri 12-Jul-19 09:31:00

I still use a mop and bucket-----nothing wrong in that. I wash/mop the floors in the bathroom and kitchen before finishing with the front door step. I'd donkey-stone the step if the product was still around, though I'd have to get on my knees to do that, otherwise I'm quite happy with a mop and bucket.

Me too I enjoy a bit of 'moping'.

DH went fishing at 7am encouraged me to stay in bed. The moment car left street jumped out of bed grabbed old shorts and shirt from bottom drawer.
We have commercial grade laminate flooring all through the ground floor , just finished moping all the old fashioned way .
Have machine to do this, why do I get such satisfaction from look back at my handy work . If it wasn't for my knees would have done it by hand .
Any other daft lady's out there doing things like this
