My father was a gp of Dr Finlays era.
I succeeded him in our general practice.

Loved the original with Bill Simpson and Andrew Cruickshank, Barbara Mullen et al.
My favourite though was Mistress not being one to spread gossip ,but Niven Ooh and that baddie, Dr. Snoddie.

I remember my mother and father going on a coach trip to Scotland in the mid seventies and visiting Callander. They enjoyed Dr Finlay's Casebook. I remember watching the black and white grainy programme as a child, on a Sunday evening I think. I was scared stiff of the old minister who looked like an undertaker, maybe he was the undertaker..........
The newer version isn't as good but still watchable.

Ah yes! Janet and her obsession with breakfast kippers! Loved it! I don’t care for the new Dr Finlay I’m afraid.

Callander’s fame as a tourist destination surely came from Dr Finlay. I remember the campsite/caravan park as you came into Callander from Stirling used to be called “Tannochbrae” as in Dr Finlay’s fictional home town. It’s fallen on hard times in recent years - every time we drive through there are more and more empty shops on the Main Street. I remember the original tv series in black and white. Janet the housekeeper reminded me of my Scottish GM - a brilliant cook but a total prude!

Do you think there were lots of Dr Finlay lookalikes around Scotland??

I remember watching this, Janet was a sort of Mrs Doyle figure, ‘will I put your dinner in the oven for a wee while then Dr?’ Or ‘och! You’re never going out in this weather Dr?’
I will look out for the newer version thanks, see what it’s like.

I remember it I was still at school at the time, I also remember being taken on holiday by my parents to Scotland and we stayed in a hotel on Loch Venachar which is very near the town of Callander where Dr Finlay was filmed........allegedly! Sure my parents picked it as place to stay for that reason

Flipping heck--not cd but dvd!

We always watched Dr Finlay, my brother always thought it was called Dr Finlay’s Bookcase!

There was an episode where’s a girl had to eat raw liver, always dreaded getting a disease which required such a remedy!

I have a cd of Dr. Finlays Casebook---haven't played it yet.

I tooloved this series, I don’t think I could enjoy watching anything other than the original version though.

Dr Finlays case book was a firm favourite with my mum and grandmothers.

Set in Tannochbrae some of it was filmed in one of my favourite places, Callander in Stirlingshire

Switched it on, then off again when I discovered it wasn’t the right one.

Janet the housekeeper was a wonderful portrayal in the old version, saying hopefully to visitors “You’ll have had your tea?”

I saw that it was going to be shown. My family and I used to love it, always called it Dr. Finlay's Bookcase.

Bill Simpson was a customer of the Scottish bank I worked in in London . One of the older ladies used to swoon when he came in . The older lady would have been years younger than I am now .

I too had a crush on Bill Simpson as Dr Finlay. In fact I seem to have had lots of crushes on doctors: Dr Kildare, Dr Doug Ross (George Clooney, ) and my very handsome GP, to name but a few.

My sister and also sat near Bill Simpson on a train. We were too shy to speak to him and we had to get off at our station when I assume he went on to Glasgow.
Andrew Cruikshank came and gave a lecture to us at Uni. He said he was not a 'method' actor, but was always himself. As Doctor Cameron he was perfect. That was in the early 60s so it was in B&W.

I loved that programme and used to be glued to it.

Yes Blondenana I remember, I had a bit of a crush on Dr Findlay I've just turned on but this is the newer version with David Rintoul so not quite the trip down memory lane for me

I loved this too. I once had to make a train journey all by myself and as I had just had my appendix out my mother paid for a first class ticket. I was sitting opposite Bill Simpson (I was about 14 at the time). I was so shy I never uttered a word to him, but he lifted my case down onto the platform for me - I was so overcome I stuttered out a thank you and fled!

I remember this well. He had a housekeeper called Janet.

Dr Cruikshank was a dead ringer for my beloved (and often tetchy) Scottish Grandpa!
