Your sofas

I always wanted leather sofas as easier for babies. Trouble is our cats think they make brilliant scratch posts! ?‍♀️ Now the babies are getting bigger thinking of getting a nice chenille one though DH really wants a corner suite.

Washable Loose covers are the answer to grubby little hands and a spare set in a different colour for whenever you redecorate. Leather needs a throw in winter because it is cold to sit on which rather defeats the object and yes, I stick to it in summer when wearing shorts!

Between our house and the gite we have 3 sofa beds, 2 3seaters, 3 armchairs and a pouffe all with loose covers of different colours from the same place in Wales and all at least 12 years old. Very comfy and hard wearing. Looks like Mawbroon's and sounds like bohos. I have just ordered some new covers for some and surprised at how very reasonably priced they still are.

We also have an antique Chesterfield in coffee coloured velvet which cost a fortune 30 years ago and has now been so uber trashed/distressed by the dogs and cats that we have to keep a throw well tucked in. It is now the dogs bed. What a waste!

The red/orangey one is in our lounge and was bought from Waring and Gillow in 1976 as a traditional 3 piece suite. This is its 3rd incarnation and it is now a 3 seat and a 4 seat sofa plus 2 pouffes. We also have a large brown leather chair in the corner.

MissAdventure Would sell it but don't want to go through the rigmarole of trying to get it out the door again!!! I'm sure my son has an electric saw, or an axe or something, any suggestions anyone?

I've only gone and ordered two sofas from Argos!

I'm sure I shall pay for my reckless behaviour by not liking them, plus I still have to flog mine.

I feel like a flibbertygibbet now.

Grey leather electric recliner in the kitchen and two grey leather (different style, different colour) sofas in the living room.

We have a three seater terracotta (very comfy) and a brown leather two seater recliner (marvellous for swollen ankles)

I like terracotta colours.
Some of the lovely older sofas were shades of it.

I've really enjoyed looking at the pics of everyone's lovely homes and furniture; its nice to get an insight into others views.

My sofa is a solid black leather freebie from gumtree. I've had it 6+ years. I've 'homered' my end (essentially it needs repairing where my backside has been) but I can't afford that right now. Nor can I move it to vacuum....

My 3-seater, 2-seater, chair and footstool were fairly matt leather 10 years ago, but have since been polished by family bottoms to quite a pleasant shine!

We have a similar sofa to the one in MawBroonsback's photo.

Ours is an Ektorp from Ikea and we have two matching armchairs. We chose grey loose covers on account of the cats.

Lovely comfy chairs and sofa, room in my chair for me plus cat, previously the one cat lay beside me and the other on the back of the chair. Now we only have the one, he shares my chair, or sits on the arm.

The covers are easy to take off and wash and even although the label says not to tumble dry them, I have done so and they didn't shrink.

You can get a sofa that sits two people or one that sits three.

I am planning an olive green velvet sofa, the one I have is cream. Previous 3 were cream, loose covers. Blue sofa around 25 years ago.

we've had 13 suites in our 44 year marriage ,currently its a mid grey leather 2x2 seaters and a 3 seater .I've been looking at furniture because we had hoped to move to a smaller house but it fell through ,so I''m looking for something new for here .I get bored with furniture and decor quite quickly .

MissA similar colour to mine but 10 years later the colour, as well as the surface texture, have weathered quite nicely.

Mine is a brown leather sofa and two chairs.
The chairs rock, swivel and recline and the dgc love them. They are big enough that two can sit (closely) side by side to watch tv.

15 years old and fabulous. Has been through a cat who hated it, and 6 dgc who each have jumped, slept and rolled on it throughout their toddlerhood. Plenty of sticky finger marks that wiped off. It gets a leather wipe about every month. The only mark is where the buckle of a wee shoe scratched it. No bother with hot or cold and the cushions stay in place without issue.

I sometimes feel I'd like to change one of the chairs as they are big but know the dgc would miss it so much.

I'd buy leather again in a heartbeat.

DS has just bought his third leather sofa (he has a big house) so he clearly has no problems with leather...and he has two children and 3 dogs.

Years ago, When our brown leather furniture arrived it would come in neither front or back door. DS and DH and friend took the double glazing unit out of the living room window to get it in.

This was at 7pm and it was getting dark, there was me having a dancing hissy fit and pulling my hair out thinking they were mad and saying No No No Way !! Furniture was in and the glass unit back in place within a half hour.

In my innocence, when they said take the window out, I thought they meant the white plastic frame included. It was bad enough when I saw the glass unit out.
