The red/orangey one is in our lounge and was bought from Waring and Gillow in 1976 as a traditional 3 piece suite. This is its 3rd incarnation and it is now a 3 seat and a 4 seat sofa plus 2 pouffes. We also have a large brown leather chair in the corner.

The pink one is in our upstairs sitting room (aka the playroom). The sofa is IKEA with a sort of matching chair from jl

2 of these from IKEA. The cat cost extra and didn't come from Ikea

Between our house and the gite we have 3 sofa beds, 2 3seaters, 3 armchairs and a pouffe all with loose covers of different colours from the same place in Wales and all at least 12 years old. Very comfy and hard wearing. Looks like Mawbroon's and sounds like bohos. I have just ordered some new covers for some and surprised at how very reasonably priced they still are.

We also have an antique Chesterfield in coffee coloured velvet which cost a fortune 30 years ago and has now been so uber trashed/distressed by the dogs and cats that we have to keep a throw well tucked in. It is now the dogs bed. What a waste!

Washable Loose covers are the answer to grubby little hands and a spare set in a different colour for whenever you redecorate. Leather needs a throw in winter because it is cold to sit on which rather defeats the object and yes, I stick to it in summer when wearing shorts!

I always wanted leather sofas as easier for babies. Trouble is our cats think they make brilliant scratch posts! ?‍♀️ Now the babies are getting bigger thinking of getting a nice chenille one though DH really wants a corner suite.

Hi, having moved country’s last year, I had to dispose of all my furniture. I have a dark brown, high back, three seater leather, lovely and comfortable, cat scratched, but that’s ok, it gives it that expensive designer distressed look. Got it off free giveaways, just cost £40.00 to transport. It is very heavy. Just right for sleeping on, Loveit!

There are some beautiful suites in a BHF shop a few miles away and they're cleaned before they go on display. There was once a lovely chest of drawers for £10 and I was sorry afterwards that I didn't get it. A fabulously clean shop.

Grey g plan reclining chairs and settee for us usually have leather but this is tweed .

I love the look of cream or white upholstery but we have two black leather three-seaters. They're a practical option with the dog, cat and grandchildren about. I clean them with baby wipes.

I have two custom made tweedy sofas which face each other and have squashy back and end cushions (not foam) in my sitting room. I had them made so that the big arm rests can be removed as they wouldn't get through the doors otherwise.
In the same room there is also a dark brown leather Mariners armchair and my favourite low 'nursing?' type chair (see pic)
In my bedroom I have a 2 seat sofa covered in teal blue cotton velvet.

Oh that's lovely!

This is a pic of my Parker Knoll charity shop bargain. It can’t have been that old as you can still buy them from New when I looked online.

We recently got a dark brown modular corner suite in dark brown leather. It is wipe clean - perfect for post grandchild visits and plenty of room when all the family are round. It also has 3 recliners for us to relax on when they have all gone home! The best thing is it only cost us £550 as it is from a factory shop that sells returns from major retailers, in this case Harveys. It had a few marks on the back which polished out.

DH and me always look longingly at beige, light coloured sleek modern fabric sofas and always end up buying brown leather sofas! That’s because we both arrive at the same conclusion at the same time , which is that we are a bit messy and it’s too much stress worrying about getting biro , newsprint, chocolate biscuit, grape juice, or squashed paprika tacos on it.

Another one here looking to change my leather corner unit. It may be practical for marks etc but drives me mad because cushions and throws constantly slide around. It strikes quite cold in the winter even in heated room and in the heat you stick to it and leave half your skin behind when getting up (perhaps a slight exaggeration but enough to make me go ouch !)
Found a brilliant bargain in a local charity shop for my conservatory, a 2/3 seater, in immaculate condition Parker Knoll sofa in a mink colour that is so comfortable. Hoping to come across similar sometime for my lounge as buying Parker Knoll new is very expensive !

First two are in the drawing room. Striped one is Duresta, red is Multi York with loose covers. The grey sofa is in the conservatory and has been commandeered by our cat!

I am also on the hunt for new sofas.

I dream of cream leather but am worried about comments (both here and from friends) that they are uncomfortable, will mark easily (we are not the most careful of people) and will not be durable (I'd like them to see us out so will need to contend with whatever is coming in the next ten (I'm hopeful.....!) years!

Any comments - positive or negative gratefully accepted...

Anyone remember the uncut moquette suites ? We had one for years and it never wore out but it played havoc with the backs of your legs.
They were horrible things really though very well sprung .
It eventually ended up getting sawn up and slung on a bonfire-----before we'd rescued about 1/6 from down the sides of it.

I too exchanged one of a pair of oh so comfy second hand sofas for a cast-off from elder son.This to accommodate younger son and girlfriend! Oh I wish I hadn’t ! It’s ugly, uncomfortable and “modern “but not in a good way. Give me slouchy and lived in any day.
Even the dog prefers “my” sofa...

G plan sell for a good price on eBay.
I bet it'll be difficult to saw up.

Mines a pale grey corner suite , with matching armchair, in leather. We’ve had it a year. We have 2 dogs allowed on the sofa and a quick wipe keeps it clean .

I have a Gplan 3 seater which I hate. It's uncomfortable, to big for my stupid shaped room, we even had to remove the architrave from around the door to get it in the house when I moved here. It's also now ripped to shreds by the cat!! I'll never buy anther new expensive sofa, I shall just continue to trek around secondhand shops until I see one I like and take great pleasure in sawing this one up to get it out of the house.

I have a 4 seater sofa and a reclining armchair both in grey leather they are the same colour but do not match in style but work very well together. They both have throws because of the dogs and we have no problem with throws or cushions sliding about. I have no plans to change as it's only about 4 years old and cost a fortune.

Throws on leather are very annoying.

I would go for leather every time. Especially if you have young grandchildren. I made the mistake of swapping from leather sofa to fabric, and now it’s filthy.

Definitely going to replace with a leather one at some point.
