What did you hate as a child?

Snakes! And then went to live in Singapore and later Australia, where snakes were likely to be around. Learned to live with it and just got on with daily life. Still don't like them.
School milk, especially when it had been frozen and then thawed out around the stove in the classroom.
All vegetables except potatoes. I'm better now!
Having to put my book down and take my youngest brother and sister out to play. I was 10 years older than them.
Going to chapel twice on a Sunday, and the long, long sermons. I really wanted to go to the Anglican church with its rituals, altars, candles and vestments and beautiful services like Matins and Evensong. I did change later and was confirmed into the C of E when I was 20.
Having to listen to Welsh hymn singing on the radio while we had tea every Sunday. And not being allowed to play out on a Sunday.

My mother left my father when I was 11 and took my little brother with her. No one knew where she went. I hated coming home to an empty house each day. I was sure that everyone in our little school knew and was talking about it.
To this day I still get upset thinking about that awful time and how it affected my life.

I absolutely totally hated living in an aluminium prefab bungalow. I felt so inferior. The children in the neighbouring estate used to joke that we used a tinopener instead of a key. My dream was to live in a brick house. I used to lie about where I lived. Still hate the memory.

Chilblains. Verrucas. My unruly hair which wouldn't be brushed tidily.
Being tickled. A particular uncle wouldn't stop tickling me as I screamed and squirmed and no-one saved me.
DGD aged 4 told me firmly last week that she hates being tickled but that her wee sister doesn't mind!

Milk of magnesia.
As the eldest of three, being held responsible for our misdeeds as I should have known better!
Having to give up my bedroom or share it when we had visitors to stay.
Freezing cold bathroom in winter months.

Nothing physical, but I did hate the perpetual feeling that I was wrong and on the borderline of being in trouble all the time.

This became acute anxiety whenever we went to visit someone (aunties, adult friends of parents) as I would inadvertently say or do something which my strict parents thought was rude, cheeky, inappropriate or invasive. "Children should be seen and not heard" was their motto.

When we got home there was always a 'telling off'. Every single time.

At 7, I once remarked on a pretty little picture my Auntie owned, and she, lovely lady that she was, gave it to me.

The trouble that caused sticks in my mind (obviously) to this day.
I still have it and remember my dear Aunt Margaret for her generosity.

Adverts for returning to school, when I had just broken up for the holidays.
Other than that had a very happy childhood.

This is bringing back so many icky memories!

I wonder if small children now will suffer similarly, or are they so much more articulate than we were and able to express their fears and concerns to adults who are actually listening? I hope so.

School milk that had frozen in ithe bottle in a Scottish winter day and then thawed out by the classroom heater. Syrup of Figs on a Friday, but why? Being made to kiss whiskery Aunties that I barely knew. ?

Being told to empty dirty ash trays.

Lots of good things though .

Rice pudding - a weekly regular at school and we were forced to eat it.
Also those laughing policemen coin operated machines at funfairs. They still make me cringe.

I hated my weekly dose of cod liver, oil and malt. Yuk I too dislike school milk it was too sickly. I hated my liberty bodice which I wore till I was about 8. It didn't give me any liberty.

Oh I had terrible constipation as a child (still do) caused by an outside toilet shared with 3 other families , that horrible white wash on the walls and spiders webs .

That horrible malt syrup stuff in a jar that my mother used to spoon into us, it was revolting!
In response to Sodapop, I loved Andrews Liver Salts, I used to eat it off a spoon when my mother wasn`t around!
And those slithery things? Love em, and caterpillars,but show me a worm and I`m off at a speed of knots!

Oh, so many memories triggered by this thread. What did I hate?
Milk drinks or puddings with lumps or skin, ugh!

Having to be greeted and fussed over by adults didn't really know (I was very shy).
PE, wearing our thick navy gym knickers.
Knitting lessons (I came to like knitting later, but wasn't ready for it at seven)
Arithmetic (long multiplication of £sd, what a nightmare!)
Scary fairground rides

Oh yes, school. I didn't include that in my earlier post because school was just such a big part of life. I think I was terrified for most of my school life. Horrible teachers (some, not all), PE, bullies, being humiliated in music because I couldn't sing in tune. Gawd, best years of your life?

Laxatives: syrup of figs and cascara. I still can't face figs, although everyone tells me they are delicious.

Being told to go and sit on my elderly great uncle's knee and give him a kiss, I don't think there was anything sinister in it but even as a little child it made me feel uncomfortable. He smelled of pipe tobacco and I dreaded him visiting. I hated being told to kiss relatives, when my children were little I never urged them to kiss people if they didn't want to

Couldn't think of anything at all until worms were mentioned. I remember the day, age about 7, the phobia set in (they hadn't bothered me before!)

Playing in the garden, my tomboy sister dropped a couple down the back of my t-shirt.
Ever since then, I can't bear the beasts - they make my toes curl and send shivers down my spine!

School lunches were ok and friends were happy to let me scoff the skin on their rice pudding!

My first school, and in particular, school dinners. I can still 'smell' those dinners in my memory, delivered pre-cooked to my infant school, amd my stomach tightens with stress.

Also, as already mentioned by sharon103, earwigs. When I was old enough to camp out in the garden, I remember the these evil insects climbing up into the apex of the tent then falling on me as I tried to get to sleep.
It has taken many years for me to get over my phobia of them. In fact, as I simply haven't seen any for many years, I'm not quite sure if the phobia has gone or not!

The greengrocer used to pinch one of my cheeks which I hated, it hurt. Can't understand why it was meant as affectionate.
Having to kiss Auntie E--- as she wore thick red lipstick.
