What did you hate as a child?

Willow500 I so agree about school milk. I still cannot drink neat milk but I do like milkshakes and I have it cold on cereal and in my coffee.

I also am scared of sn**es and if I see one in the lake or even see one on the TV then I have nightmares.

Sunday School. Brownies. Ballroom dancing lessons. Maths lessons. Sport. Not much has changed really!

School milk ? boy did I hate it , room temp full cream milk ... I always was sick or had gut ache afterwards so used to give mine away most of the time Turns out I was dairy intolerant even then ?

As soon as I read this thread I thought of Famel Syrup. A hideous tasting concoction that we were given when ill with colds I think.

I wonder if anyone else remembers school dinners at a girls grammar school in Twickenham and being assigned the role of swab by a prefect and having to fish out a revolting cloth from a food infested bowl of water and having to wipe down the table with it. It used to make me retch.

I hated the fussy clothes my mother dressed me in. And the tongs that I had to wear overnight to make my hair curly.

School right up until the day I left, hated every single minute of it.

Boiled cabbage my mum was a great cook apart from cooking cabbage, I eat it now because it’s steamed or just boiled for a couple of minutes.
School custard, yuck. And their mashed potatoe yuck.

lilylaundry I too always hated the smell of meat - whether it was the pig’s head quietly sitting in the pantry (soaking in brine?) or something supposedly “delicious” such as roast lamb or beef. I hated it all before it ever reached my mouth. Now of course I don’t cook meat but my summer seems to be full of the smells of other people’s barbecues!

Older ladies who pinched your cheek as they greeted you- it hurt!!!

I didn’t hate much....but disliked having my long hair washed over the bath on “ hair wash night” which was Sunday . Six of us kids and I’m the youngest so got done first and mum was thorough ...which meant pretty rough ...as she went through the other kids she got slower and softer and lazier. Still I always had the cleanest hair! Couldn’t wait til I was 10 and demanded to get it cut short.! Mum looked at me long and hard with hands on hips ...and I did likewise.... the moment seemed to last an hour but only 10 seconds or so ...then she said “ok”.I was boss of me from then on and I think she was quietly pleased not to have to make petty little decisions anymore for six kids. She had enough on her plate with the big things!

PageTurner - how awful. It really puts my “hatred” of lacy-knit socks which rubbed on my heels in perspective.

Meat - any kind of meat but in particular the Christmas 'treat' of chicken.

My goodness how it made me queezy, just the smell of it cooking, never mind the sliver we all were given on our plates,

I always tried to get seated next to my eldest brother who loved meat but hated vegetables, you can guess what went on between us!

Being made to kiss relatives I barely knew, let alone liked

Getting told to "be quiet" during The Archers or Mrs Dale's Diary (Funny how things change: nobody is allowed to utter a word here while we listen to The Archers!)

Having to wear sensible shoes because fashionable ones were bad for growing feet (Mom, did I ever tell you just how grateful I am now?)

Shop dummys! Especially the ones in the menswear shops that had no legs (or arms) and where cut off just above the chin. They still give me the creeps even now!

I find all milky puddings disgusting and hate the "rabbit" that forms on the top, it makes me feel sick at the thought.

School milk ? Sunday school and milk jelly which the lady over the road used to send across when I was ill

I hated being served sago pudding during school dinners at primary school. One of our dinner ladies would force kids to eat it. Horrible!

Oh yes. Milk - somehow I got out of it at school. And yesterday’s cold joint - specially mutton. Porridge - after one mouthful on my first day at school I’ve never eaten it since. And yes - whiskery or over powdered ‘aunts’ who swooped on one. I now avoid kissing acquaintances if I can - unlike politicians! On the other hand I rather liked Kepler’s malt.

I hated watching “some mothers do have em” I remember feeling so sorry for Frank who was trying so hard for his wife and baby and was made a mockery of in every episode! My parents found it funny but not me!
I also hated boiled gammon which we had with broad beans in white sauce (I am a vegetarian now!)

When I was about six I was bullied. I hated and despised the ringleader and can still remember her name and picture her face. I have hated bullies and bullying ever since.
