Who do you look like?

I was once walking back home from a tennis game, still in my tennis outfit and was stopped by two young children. They excitedly asked if I was Wonder Woman. That was a very long time ago.

Some kids in the 80s once asked me if I was Deirdre Barlow but we both used to wear those huge specs!

And a friend's mother thought I looked like Meryl Streep - quite a compliment.

I don't think I have ever looked like anyone famous.

Now I see my mother or her mother staring back at me from shop windows and mirrors.

When I was younger the resemblance was to my great-grandmothers on both sides of the family.

My youngest daughter is the spitting image of the tennis player Carolina Pliskova.

As well as the dead actress above, I was compared on many occasions to Deidre from Corrie and Nana Mouskouri. Who look not one jot alike (or anything like me).

When I was a teenager it was Pat Phoenix, then Kathy Kirby, but for most of my life up to my 50s, it was Rula Lenska.

When I was a child, I was told by every new adult I met 'ooh aren't you like your Daddy?!' I could not see it myself then, but I certainly can now!

When I was a lecturer, the students drew up a spoof Dramatis Personae of all the staff - I was cast as Wendy Craig. It could have been worse: one colleague was cast as Santa's Evil Twin; and could have been better: one was cast as God.

Often told I look like Goldie Hawn, which is great - think it must be my smile and messy hair! Recently someone on holiday said I reminded him of Pam Ayers! I had to look her up on Google Images as couldn’t remember what she was like and also to see if I should be flattered or not! I think it must be the eyes - but then another chap said sometimes I sounded like her!! Funny how other people see us!

In my youth allegedly I looked like Audrey Hepburn and spoke like Millicent Martin. Sadly unlike Audrey I lost my looks somewhere along the line.

At one of my DS’s wedding 12 years ago, my mother told me I looked like Joan Collins ! I recently went on a month long cruise, and when showing some friends the photos, one said “ you look just like Joan Collins” ... so I can’t be doing too badly !

When I do my hair, for some inexplicable reason, my mother smiles back at me!

Quite a number of people have said I looked very much like Kate Winslet (as she was in Titanic) when I was younger....however I think it was more the type of features/hair colour!

We have an old Cavendish Toffee Poster framed of some past Royals including Queen Victoria. My granddaughter pointed to her the other day and said that’s you isn’t it Grandma! I should add it is a picture of her in her later years.

My mother always said that I looked like Princess Anne - it is the nose! I can't see it myself.
