Well we change as we get older don’t we, if I FaceTime my dd or family I try to avoid looking at my photo in the corner of my phone.
But I scrub up well, dress smart and go out into the big bad world,d. ?

I think we see what we want to in a mirror - the real shock horror for me is when I try to take a photo with my mobile and accidentally press the 'selfie' mode. The elderly tortoise with seven chins, frowning at the buttons, simply cannot be me!

If we believed most of the articles that have been written about "beauty" (and "the older woman") then I think that most of us wouldn't dare to leave the house without wearing full make-up and/or a bag over out heads!

We all look much better when we smile, so keep smiling, everyone!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and beauty is only skin deep . It's what is on the in side that really counts .

I have never looked in the mirror and thought :"Ah, I can still pull off that Mono Lisa Enigmatic Smirk look."

And I always get a nasty surprise when I accidentally catch my reflection in one of those massive plate glass shop windows......I just want to close my eyes and run all the way home when that happens!

I think we look much better in real life than in the mirror. The reason is that looking in the mirror we are usually expressionless or even anxious. In real life we are animated. Look at yourself in the mirror then laugh at your reflection and your face comes to life and a happy face is always attractive. Try it!

I remember visiting a maiden great-aunt when I must have been about 21, not having seen her for over ten years. Her comment was, “Oh! You’ve improved! You were a very unfortunate-looking child,”

I hate those mirrors in ladies toilets that have harsh strong lighting above the mirror,shows every wrinkle and makes the person look "washed out",.,I prefer the softer lighting......sigh!

Rosina I am convinced there is some sort of tortoise app on phones which alters our appearance in selfies, because of course we know we don't really look like that!

Bring back brown paper bags. I need one, now!

Sara65, yes, I quite often see my Grandma looking at me from the mirror! I generally look better in the evening, when makeup has settled nicely, look grim in the morning! My DH always says to him attractive means looking alert, interested and intelligent - can't help your face but can light it up with a bit of spark!

I never thought I was particularly pretty but I can remember someone said I had lovely legs and I said to my mum while looking admiringly at my legs - “I’ve been getting compliments about my legs”. She replied “well, they’re straight”! Talk about deflated ... ?

I once had a change of hairstyle and a 'friend' looked at me and said 'What a transformaton'!!!! I never really understood just exactly what she meant by it! Oh and the same person's mother also commented on my young son at the time who she described as good looking and must be like his father ! :-) LOL!

I vainly, or hopefully, assume that what I see in the mirror bears the same resemblance to the real me as my passport photo and the worse one on my bus pass!

I am certain the person others see cannot look worse than those photos!

The photo on my driving licence is criminal, it really is. I dread being asked for ID .

I stopped my breast surgeon in her tracks, when she apologetically told me that my hair would all fall out after chemo. I said it wasn't a problem for me, only for the poor buggers who have to look at me. I now have a G.I. buzz cut, which is half the price of my normal shampoo, cut and blow dry, and it's lovely and cool in this heatwave. I might just keep it this way and invest in big hats for winter!

for a long time I had a mobile phone that was just a phone.I finally got one that I can take selfies with,but I hate them,I delete most of them,I look so old and ugly.But I suppose it depends how you see yourself,I know people who don't look any better or younger than me,but they still talk about looking good in things.

I’m another one who sees her mother looking back at her from the mirror - don’t mind too much as she always looked good to me! Wish I had her figure though ...
