This is totally ridiculous as a news headline. Can't a couple have a row without the world knowing. I'm not a Boris fan but this is out of order imo.

ReadyMeals Sun 23-Jun-19 11:32:31

If this does ruin his campaign to be leader, that will be the second time he's been undone by a member of his own team. Gove the first time, and this time by his own PR manager!

Anniebach Sun 23-Jun-19 11:32:14

I feel so unworthy to post here.

I have occasionally drank a little too much, I have smoked
a joint , all in the past ?

I don’t want to be PM but do I have the right to criticise those who have done the same ?

Callistemon Sun 23-Jun-19 11:31:02

Alternative scenario in my post above Amagran!

Amagran Sun 23-Jun-19 11:30:34

Johnson or not, if I heard a woman screaming 'get off me' and 'get out of the flat' accompanied by crashing and banging, I too would phone the police.

Callistemon Sun 23-Jun-19 11:30:05

None of them come out of it very well, quite frankly - Boris, his girlfriend or the neighbours who recorded it and went to the press with the recording.
All very well phoning the police if they were concerned about a woman's safety - but they obviously had an ulterior motive.

Or a man's safety for that matter - why does everyone assume that it is necessarily a woman who may be subjected to domestic violence? How do we know that Carrie was not flinging crockery at Boris and he tried to restrain her, hence 'Get off me'?

Theoddbird Quote [ Apparently they are very left wing....says it all. They felt for her safety so sold the recording to a newspaper.]End Quote

So, Theoddbird, you would have done nothing even after you heard another woman shout "get off me"?

If so, I feel that you are placing politics before someones personal safety.

sandelf Sun 23-Jun-19 11:26:14

The Times has an informative article on who 'she' is, and on who the neighbours are - all VERY VERY wealthy people with clear agendas.

Ginny42 Sun 23-Jun-19 11:21:34

Such behaviour being in the public domain makes him a security risk for blackmail.

catta5 Sun 23-Jun-19 11:15:17

Wonder if the neighbour wants to remain especially as the ither neighbours heard nothing

Callistemon Sun 23-Jun-19 11:14:08

The polls say different this morning, Sheilasue.

Paul270656 Sun 23-Jun-19 11:13:29

It is right thing to call the police he was asked to leave and refused going to the press well I guess it just adds fuel to the fire and alongside his apparent drug use in his youth does this make him fit for office No! But the others are no better so better the devil you know?

Sheilasue Sun 23-Jun-19 11:11:36

Not going to make any difference, I am sure he will still get the job as pm.
Not my party the nasty party whoever gets in not going to make an difference to dh and I. May said we are all in this together, waiting to see where we come in.

Grandad1943 Sun 23-Jun-19 11:11:35

As as I have already stated in an above post, I believe that calling the police to what was obviously a "strong" domestic incident was the correct action to take.

The recording of the incident was I feel also justified, especially after the woman was heard to shout "get off me." In that, the recording may well have proved to be crucial evidence had anyone been injured or the police felt that further action was necessary.

In regard to releasing that recording to the press, then there is an obvious public interest in this incident as the leading newspapers at present so graphically demonstrate. However, everyone is entitled to a private life, but if you are looking to become the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, perhaps that private life should be very stable and quiet.

sarahellenwhitney Sun 23-Jun-19 11:09:06

That the police found 'no need for further action' would be good enough for me .Who doesn't have 'heated' discussions/disagreements with ones partner at some time .The fact that the one, allegedly? a left winger, who reported this 'incident' had recorded it and then presented their findings to a national newspaper clearly shows other motives' as without a doubt this would not have come to the publics attention and now without a doubt 'around the world' had this incident been about your Mr Average Man in the street.
Must have been Jeremy Hunts lucky day.

My understanding is that Boris was removed from the flat and went home.
If police attend a suspected "domestic" incident, even in cases where both parties say they are fine, they always ask the person whose property it is if they want the other person to be removed.
It seems that Boris was removed. This, if nothing else, implies that she did not want him there and we do know that she told him to leave and he hadn't gone.
Whilst I don't condone giving the phone recording to the press, I DO think it was the right thing to do to call the police.
Having worked with women escaping abuse and in a refuge, I know that I couldn't sit on my hands and do nothing. As someone else noted, there was another neighbour who spoke out afterwards saying she was just about to call the police when they arrived on the scene, so it's not unreasonable to assume the row was scary or alarming.

mgtrob22 Sun 23-Jun-19 10:55:46

Boris and his partner are human after all - how many people have never had a row with their partners or spouses? Having time to record their conversation and then contacting the newspapers sounds like a set-up to me.

Nandalot Sun 23-Jun-19 10:52:07

Yes, it could well be politically motivated. If you felt strongly that Boris was the wrong man to be Prime Minister and felt that this recording showed a side of him that others should know about you would probably make it known. The neighbours are probably more aware of Boris as a person than we are, for example, for his flagrant disregard of parking fines.

crystaltipps Sun 23-Jun-19 10:49:50

More gossip- She is part of his PR team I believe, he moved in with her after his wife chucked him out, presumably having found out about the affair. She is about the same age as one of his daughters. I can’t see it lasting, but it keeps the media happy. Threats to the neighbours from Boris supporters? That’s going a bit far

Barmeyoldbat Sun 23-Jun-19 10:47:52

I wish you would all stop defending domestic abuse and that was what it was. The neighbours called the police out of concern and quite rightly. The recording shows exactly what was said and throwing of places, glasses or whatever. If that had been your daughter in that situation wouldn't you have wanted someone to help? Stop burying your faces, he is a disgrace and should never be pm. As for Mark Field I hope they throw the book at the bully.

Marjgran Sun 23-Jun-19 10:47:49

I hope all her friends and relatives are shouting “Leave means leave!” Get out, you are 32.....

ReadyMeals Sun 23-Jun-19 10:47:13

I don't know why people say he's charismatic anyway. He's scruffy and unattractive, and he's not exactly sparkling either, he just mumbles and stammers. I don't think he gets places by his charisma, I think he does it by promises and threats and perhaps a bit of "cunning plan"

keffie Sun 23-Jun-19 10:45:18

Anyone who thinks this is a non story needs to rethink and/or has never experienced domestic abuse. Its not minimal.

This stepped over the lines of an arguement the moment she screamed "get off me"

If you dont think that is assault, then let me ask you if you would be o.k with a man physically man handling your daughter?

There was also the sounds of things being thrown around. That is also what they call common assault

Someone doesn't scream "get off me" unless they are being assaulted. There was enough noise for more than one set of neighbours to hear.

Quite frankly they did the right thing recording it as it would have been called fake news otherwise.

ReadyMeals Sun 23-Jun-19 10:44:23

The other thing is that it's kind of embarrassing to be known as a person who has screechy domestic altercations, and I feel a bit cringey about having someone with that embarrassment factor representing me on the world stage.

Marjgran Sun 23-Jun-19 10:43:46

I am shocked at these responses. 1) he is standing for the highest office in the land 2) all the neighbours heard apparently and others considered calling the police 3) his character has been questioned over and over - constant gaffes in every role he has ever had, previous employers / team members / cannot be more rude about him - like Trump (but more “amiable” apparently - a womaniser, a serial adulter, a liar even in politics, a dodger. His partner is over 20 years younger and considerably smaller. This is publicly relevant information even if it is “remainers” (who share a landing / hall BTW) who published it.
It reminds me of what Trump said “I could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue in daylight and my supporters wouldn’t care”.
Why do women like a charismatic bounder? He will be a disastrous PM.
