This is totally ridiculous as a news headline. Can't a couple have a row without the world knowing. I'm not a Boris fan but this is out of order imo.

Barmeyoldbat Sun 23-Jun-19 19:20:16

Blimey Gab you must believe that pigs fly. Whatever happened was enough for her to tell him to get off her and leave and also neighbours/passer bys to be concerned for her safety.

Peardrop50 Sun 23-Jun-19 18:58:24

Here's a thought. Carrie Symonds is a victim of John Warbuoys the taxi cab rapist, she got in to his cab, drank vodka and only remembers feeling woosey. She does not know whether or not she was raped. This is a horrendous thing for a woman to have to handle. Could it be that she has nightmares or flashbacks. Boris might have been up late rehearsing his speech and she may have gone to bed or dozed off on the sofa, he may have gone to bed or gone to wake her from the sofa and disturbed her mid nightmare, hence the screaming 'get off me', 'get out of my flat', then picking up his lap top to throw at him, him responding 'get off my f'ing laptop' as it contains his speech amendments. He calms her as she realises it was another horrid nightmare. Police arrive and they concoct the red wine story to protect her privacy or the red wine was indeed spilled in the fracas and they use it to protect her from further scrutiny over the Warbuoys terror.

I have no more idea than anyone else what happened so my point is that there are endless possibilities and therefore we cannot and should not judge.

It is then up to the opposition to try and unseat him and his government

Yes, and we'd be jumping from the frying pan into the fire if that happened, given Corbyn (opposition) is the leader of a far left Labour Party.

Talk about between the Devil and the deep blue sea. It's the grim reality.

Johnson or Corbyn? confused What a choice.

I wonder if Hunt will capitalise on this mess? Boris' rating are down after sofagate/redwinegate.

maxdecatt Sun 23-Jun-19 18:37:31

Whitewave....Wrong. Until the next Tory leader loses a no confidence vote he is the Prime Minister. The Queen will invite him to form a government. He will do so because that is the way it works. It matters not if it is Hunt or Boris, the same rule applies to both. It is then up to the opposition to try and unseat him and his government.

maxdecatt Sun 23-Jun-19 18:33:35

Whitewave... and the other neighbour heard her screaming and shouting in fury.... there is an audible difference between screams of fear and screams of rage. That other neighbour heard him telling her to calm down. The one that recorded the event must have ultra efficient recording gear to have a clear recording.... if so it begs the question of the tone of the row. Rage or fear?

Whitewavemark2 Sun 23-Jun-19 18:32:49

No not the next PM it’s their next leader. It is by no means certain that the next Tory leader can command a majority.

Jennist Sun 23-Jun-19 18:32:26

As he has made many derogatory comments, I'm sure that he wouldn't mind others talking about him.

Ginny42 Sun 23-Jun-19 18:31:45

Sincerely hope you're wrong and he won't be the PM. The two of them made their argument very public by shouting so that people could hear them even at street level. They've brought this on themselves. No sympathy.

vivonce Sun 23-Jun-19 18:30:25

I agree with Janeainsworth

Callistemon Sun 23-Jun-19 18:29:10

I don't want Boris as PM, but I have no say in the matter.

However, I do think that so many on here are guilty of believing that only men can be the perpetrators of domestic violence.

Are there no male Gransnetters who could pick up on that point?

maxdecatt Sun 23-Jun-19 18:27:20

It is only because the Conservatives are open about their processes that we know who is to be the next PM. As they are the current government their choice for THEIR leader automatically becomes the PM of the UK. Take it or leave it....99.9% of those spouting on here have no say whatsoever and are wasting their time arguing one way or the other. The Tories could (and should) choose their leader in private and that would be that.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 23-Jun-19 18:26:13

This

Dr Louise Raw
@LouiseRaw
THREE SEPERATE INDIVIDUALS, INCLUDING A PASSER-BY, CALLED POLICE. I suppose it was an orchestrated communist plot?
How stupid does the establishment think we are?
Rhetorical question. I know the answer only too well.

Callistemon Sun 23-Jun-19 18:24:08

It isn't a question of defending him, more a question of being uncomfortable at people immediately jumping to the conclusion that it is "domestic abuse" and he is the perpetrator - no-one knows what really happened

Quite.
For all we know he could be the victim.
We were very surprised to find, many years ago, that our male neighbour was the victim of domestic violence.

annifrance Sun 23-Jun-19 18:04:37

I do heartily agree greycat, and SirChenjin. And telling the Guardian exposed his unsuitability for any public office, let alone PM . So the neighbour did the right thing in all ways and alerted all to this utter disgrace of a man.

varian Sun 23-Jun-19 18:03:36

Do we not have a right to know whether or not the front runner in the race to become leader of the Conservative Party and PM is a stable, mentally healthy, reliable individual?

GabriellaG54 Sun 23-Jun-19 18:03:33

Don't be ridiculous Barmeyoldbat
Would BJ, knowing what we know of him and his plans/aim of becoming PM, throw that all away by committing an act which would see him given a lengthy jail sentence?
I could bet that he'd never ever dream of doing anything remotely
connected to assault on a female.

lemongrove Sun 23-Jun-19 17:25:35

Quite right orly ??

Anniebach Sun 23-Jun-19 17:25:24

I don’t think anyone has criticise phoning the police, but phoning a national newspaper?

SirChenjin Sun 23-Jun-19 17:19:58

I’d have recorded such an argument as evidence in case it went to court - I wouldn’t have hesitated.

He’s proved himself to be the scumbag with very poor judgment I suspected he was - certainly not someone who should be leading the U.K. through such a difficult time.

varian Sun 23-Jun-19 17:11:28

From what I've seen the neighbour is not "left-leaning", apart from having voted Remain, as most Londoners did, he has no other political connexion.

He acted as anyone would do hearing shouting through the walls, including a woman shouting "get off me" and "get out of my flat". I think most decent neighbours would have phoned the police in the circumstances.

Hattiehelga Sun 23-Jun-19 16:59:21

What else has this Left leaning neighbour recorded ? Boris will undoubtedly have confidential information and make phone calls not for public consumption. Should neighbour's flat be "swept" for recording equipment and his phone confiscated for investigation. I am not a Boris fan but think this has been a set up.

Wetnosewheatie Sun 23-Jun-19 16:50:15

I cannot believe anyone thinks this is an inconsequential story. This is in the national interest. This man wants to be the leading citizen in our country. I would have called the police and recorded the incident and probably given the tape to the newspapers if what is being reported is correct . Domestic abusers should not get anywhere near the doors of 10
Downing Street. And no I'm not a liberal lefty. If it was anyone that I thought could influence at a senior level the newspaper would apply and if it was anyone else the police would apply.

grannyqueenie Sun 23-Jun-19 16:31:15

“If he honestly thought ......” etc. But isn’t that the whole point, when a person is in a blind rage, especially if fuelled by alcohol, clear rational thinking doesn't enter into it!

Mamma66 Sun 23-Jun-19 16:28:56

Having lived next to nightmare neighbours for a couple of years in the past I actually have some sympathy for the neighbours. We used to hear the woman screaming and shouting “get off me” and smashing things and I or the other neighbours would call the Police regularly. It used to sound as though she was being murdered.

Secondly, someone who wants to be Prime Minister needs to recognise that they should not set themselves up for media attention IMHO

Barmeyoldbat Sun 23-Jun-19 16:25:12

So being a candidate for PM and a well known person would stop you from physically attack or raping your g/f nGabriella, dream on.
